Here's the thing, at first glance I was not completely blown away with the year's line-up. I was not dissapointed by any means either. I had to do some research and listen to some new artists and get into some established artists who were biggest in the 90s. I gave every single act on the line-up a chance (or am in the process of doing so). The only thing I can report is that I am getting more and more excited every day. I keep finding new and exciting artists (Mumford & Sons, The Middle East, Midlake, Freelance Whales, Vetiver, No Age, The Temper Trap), and re-discovering older acts that I might not have been into during their biggest years (MA, Ween, Nada Surf, Pavement).
I guess my point is that I don't need anyone else to "love" this line-up. I'd just like them to give these artist a chance. I would have loved to see Frightened Rabbit, Margot & The Nuclear So & So's, Andrew Bird, Okkervil River, Rilo Kiley and Arcade Fire but they are not on the line-up. I've just discovered so many other talented acts, that I've gotten over it. Then again this is Sasquatch, the music is important but the atmosphere is incredible regardless. My $170 pass is well worth it just to camp/party and check out the gorge. The music is a bonus.

Seriously msbands, I actually believed you knew something about confirmations. Went to your blog maybe 3-5 times during the last week or so before the announcement. I hope the 30 cents you made off of me helps you out, but seriously fuck off with mp3s and playlists. As I8 stated, we have plenty of users who are willing and able to post free mp3s on this board. I really hope you accomplished a lot during those weeks that you were too "lazy" to post anything on your blog. Dick.

I would hope that it has more to do with the stellar line-up than the video of a dance party. Tough to say, I guess we will find out when we get in there. Either way, glad I got my ticket early!

I've still never seen VW, so I'll give them a listen this time around. Although I'll probably escape the front stage area during that set. Even if it means I won't be quite as close as I'd like for MMJ. I've got the same stance on Public Enemy as you scough. Maybe I'll see half of each set, or rather the way the line-up is looking now I might only catch the tail end of PE after the National...hmm. Only a few more months till we get the official schedule and then really know what conflicts we'll all have.

Thats exactly it. Thanks for the links. It was really moving stuff. My favorite song on the album is actually "Vittoria". It's probably the catchiest song, but also the first song of his that I heard. Really interesting composition.

Hipster kid waiting for Vampire Weekend at APW checking in. If the schedule plays out as predicted, I will probably spend most of Saturday at the main stage, closing with the National. If the schedule is such that The National go against Public Enemy, well, fuck. So, am I to assume that Vampire Weekend was not memorable? Or you'd just rather see something else at that time?

The reason you are hearing that American beer is weak, is that the most popular (and most available) beers in the States are Bud Lite and Miller Lite or Coors Light. Both beers taste like water and only have 3.5%. Most sports stadiums, and other events will only have a few beers and chances are they are light beers. Stay away from those if you want to get hammered quickly, but I would recommend a good variety. Get some water-beer for when it's 30+ out, get some nice micro-brews for when it's managable weather outside, and then get some potato vodka for when night comes and it starts getting freezing fucking cold.

Nevermind, a little more digging and I found a real beer store. Anyone coming from Calgary, apparently Hucklberry's Natural Market has the best selection. Can't wait for some delcious PNW microbrews!

I wish I could go through Seattle/area on my way and go to some of their wonderful breweries. Unfortunately the biggest city I'll be going through is Spokane. Hopefully I can find a store with decent brews along the way. No Krogers/Top Foods, from my search though. Apparently this 'world market' place has some variety. Anyone used it before?

The National is stellar live, but by all means everyone should stay away from the main stage during their set so I can get closer. Agreed. Although at APW last year there were so many little scenester kids waiting for VW in the way. Which means we could be in for the same thing this time around.

Who? Broken Social Scene Where? Shepherd's Bush, London When? May 2008 Amazing show. BSS really brought the heat that night. They played for over 2 hours with two encores. Finally got to hear Pacific Theme live, which is my favorite BSS song (first song to be played at my wedding reception). For their first encore, I think it was the bassist who played along with some voice dialogue they had recorded. It was of a neighbor of one of the bandmates who had the ear surgery to finally make her hear. She described how the sensation of sound reverberated through her body and how it made her feel - which was amazing. The band member played along with the voice track which seemed very off the cuff and not rehearsed but it was an amazing live moment. I believe that would be Charles Spearin and the Happiness project you might be referring to. He plays with BSS sometimes, and that sounds a lot like a song on his record. Check it out if you get a chance. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Spearinen.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Happiness_Project

Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for Breweries to stop in either Spokane, Coeur D'Alene or somewhere along to way to the Gorge going West from either of those places?
Thanks!

Dude, buy your beer in the States. It's WAY cheaper, even with exchange.

Too many good beers out here in the PNW to not enjoy the good stufff. But I get what your saying. I will definitely have some standby Miller Lites for those super hot hours. This. Perfect planning. Being Canadian I thoroughly enjoy my visits to the States. Being able to pick up beer and bread at the same location, how perfect. I went heavy on Miller Lite (or as I like to call it "water-beer"), and then picked up an assortment of microbrews and other more delicious less watery delights. Sure, by Monday night all I had left was Miller Lite but it still got me sort of buzzed. There is alcohol in there right? It would be nice to see a late night set, but if there are noise ordinances I can understand. I certainly get my fill of music these 3 wonderful days, so I can't complain about no all night sets.

I was always skeptical about leaving the campground and coming back in, but if this is true then I am so much more excited. I've really wanted to go into the river on one of those super hot mornings, and even grab some breakfast somewhere would be great. As far as re-rentry into the concert, it's a good idea but I'm trying to see a spot in the schedule where there isn't someone I want to watch perform. Maybe Sunday between Tallest Man on Earth and Tegan and Sara...although Girls could be a good show. Paying sucks, but it beats the option of not being able to leave at all.

Have to agree with you there. For me Monday was well worth it for Grizzly Bear, Gogol Bordello, Fleet Foxes, Silversun Pickups, and EITS. This year it's looking even better with Japandroids, She & Him, Band of Horses, TNP and I still have tough decisions with so many time slots that day. For me the 10 hour drive means I am going to the whole festival, even if it means I have to take off Friday, Monday and Tuesday. It's worth it.

Fuck, this is somewhat upsetting to someone who paid the extra $ for Premiere. I would love to be able to go out and be able to have breakfast somewhere, go for a soak and then head back for the show. I did see people doing it last year in Premiere, but we just didn't feel like risking it. What did the people working the gate or whatever say to you?

Things I learnt from attending my first Sasquatch Fest last year: - Prepare for insane weather changes. It can go from 30+ to 5 (celcius), or in other words hot as hell to cold as ice in no time. Bring a warm jacket for partying afterwards, and lots of sunscreen/a hat for the day. - Beer/Food is super expensive/shitty. Bring snacks into the concert with you. Trail mix, granola bars, shit like that. Fruit is ok, but it gets cooked pretty quickly. Bring lots of food/beer/water/ice with you for camping. Save yourself some money and try to eat lots before you go in for the day. - If staying in Premiere, bring a fucking canopy or shade of some sort. It gets so hot during the day that you will absolutely roast if you don't have one. Last year we all sat in the shade of the car/tent and it was not very comfy. - Go out hard the first night, because realistically the party cools down the rest of the nights (at least for us it did). - Set up a towel/blanket on the hill early and avoid looking for somewhere to sit later on. Don't just leave it there all day and never come back till the headliner because you will never find it. - Bring walkie talkies to help find your group (instead of cell-phones) cheaper (especially for CDNs), and sometimes cell coverage is shit. - Don't overpack with useless shit. Bring food/water/beer and sleeping essentials. Depends on what kind of vehicle you are taking but for us, it was way too packed amd half the stuff we didn't even use. Hope this helps/isn't too repetitive.

On the partying after the fest: seems like a lot of people were in the same boat as iron. The party was great Friday night, everyone was out and meeting new people. Saturday night there were certainly fewer people out, and Sunday & Monday nights I barely saw anybody out. That being said the weather was deadly last year, it sucked so much energy out of me personally. Drinking on the cheap saved me last year, especially with the exchange rate at the time. Back on topic: I'm ok with the set times the way they are, because I plan to be at the fest from 12 or 1 right until the last set. That's close to 11-12 hours in the burning sun, and definitely worth the price of admission.
