ok, usually i would agree with you interstateeight about bitching out howardmoonlovesyou ( i know it's a full time job) but thats kind of a legitimate question. im from vancouver, wa and sometimes it gets a tad confusing about knowing what vancouver people are talking about. maybe thats only me though. The only reason you said that is because you are from Vancouver, wa. Otherwise no one makes the mistake. Sorry that your town is so close to a major north american center. Deal with it.

Personally we arrived Friday around 7-8PM last year and waited in line for at least half an hour and then were promptly directed to a decent premier camping spot, which was not that far from the entrance. This year we're planning to get there for 1 or 2, and have plenty of time to set up, hang out and meet our neighbours. I also e-mailed the gorge about the pitiful excuse for "premier" camping they had last year. I haven't heard anything back, but that doesn't really surprise me. I'm really hoping for a better experience this year, although my friends would not stay in regular anyways. "It's too loud" they say. I say "drink more!"

Smaller Canadian acts worth checking out: - Patrick Watson: So very good, incredible mix of instruments and a wonderful range on Mr. Watson. - City and Colour: Dallas Green's (from Alexisonfire fame) solo project. Folky, normally acoustic rock. Seen him 3 times, very intimate shows. Worth a listen. - Japandroids: While the other two acts are mellow and soothing, Japandriods are the opposite. They are rockers from Vancouver, and are gaining momentum fast. The two guys in the band do a great job and really work hard. They will be big. Soon. - Caribou: Instrumentals are very detailed and layered. Never seen before but comes very highly recommended

I can't really explain what made their performance so great for me. I just love their music so much, that it was great to finally hear it live. They certainly bring a certain emotion to the songs that is not necessarily felt on the album versions. I would it's up for interpretation, and if you don't like the mannuerisms or looks of the band then just listen to the music and stare out into the gorge. That sounds like a perfect evening to me.

Last year I had a bunch of the different food: Asian Noodles, Gyros, Philly Cheese Steak, Chicken Fingers. Basically the noodles and gyros were decent but not incredible. The Cheese Steak made me want to die/burned my insides, and the chicken fingers had more sawdust in them than chicken. The food ranges from passable to shit. This year I'm brining the majority of my food with me, and like others mentioned it's cheaper and better tasting (not to mention much better for you in all likelihood)

Alex I have pretty much the same mentality as you. I was strongly considering going, because last year was so much fun, but what really sold me was the National. I flew from Calgary to New York last year just to see them at APW, because they never come anywhere near me. It was an amazing show, and I'm so excited to hear their new stuff. Looks like it's about half new stuff from that set list. Can. Not. Wait. For an interview with Matt re: the new LP see link pitchfork.com/news/37727-nationals-matt-berninger-talks-new-lp/

That song was fucking incredible. So pumped for High Violet.
Vampire Weekend were just on SNL last week if anyone saw that. I'd post a link, but being in Canada means I don't have access to any american network videos.

I would say if you are in the middle of the lawn with a beer your friend bought you then you'll be fine for the most part. Not sure about sneaking stuff in, I would just use your head and be discreet. Same thing about when you are drinking it.

and rumours...? Come on people. Peace and love. Calgary gets even fewer shows than Seattle and Vancouver and has definitely contributed less to the music scene, but I deal.

Just make friends with your neighbours, and hopefully you will be beside some like minded folk. I found that last year, the large majority of people were at the very least friendly and some were outgoing to make sure you had a good time.

Agreed. When I heard what the line-up was like I immediately turned off my TV. Chad Kreuger makes my brain hurt.

Looks like a good spot to jump in for a soak. Do you know if there are any good access points for the river around there?

I'd like to seriously know how many bands I have seen. I have no idea though, and it would take waytoofuckinglong to figure it out. More interesting would be the amount of money spent on concerts/festivals.

As far as I know wristbands are only for Premium (stayed there last year), and of course for drinking at the concert itself. Premium campers were allowed to wander wherever they saw fit. Security guards checked everyone coming back into Premium, and were actually pretty fucking awful about it too. I can understand you'll get a few drunkards trying to weasel their way in, but for the most part they were pretty much dicks.

I had no idea ice was only $2. I skipped it as well, as the line-up was insane. Although this year I am really contemplating leaving the campground for a trip to the nearest ice vendor/river entrance/breakfast.

I'm coming Calgary...where's Hucklberry's Natural Market? Google map it! I don't know Spokane at all, but seems pretty easy off the highway.
