looks like I missed out on the Portland tickets. Eugene ones are still available but that's a long ways to go... For those not familiar with Portland, the venue the Shins are playing at is capacity 350 (some say up to 400). They would have easily sold out a venue five times that size. We'll all be close enough to photo Mercer's nostril hair.

I lurk the Coachella board about 20 minutes a week, so I read every 214th thread or so. One caught my eye during lunch today. Sure everyone always pretends to know more than they do, and it's all speculation until the lineup is announced, but a couple people are claiming to have knowledge that Radiohead will headline, and Coldplay may as well.
I doubt more than 10,000 people will be attending both weekends of the festival. Therefore, they really are tryng to sell 50,000+ more tickets than usual, so it makes sense to make the festival a bit more top heavy. Therefore, I'm going to believe this Radiohead claim holds water.

If your job was to sing Kings of Leon songs every other night, you'd develop a healthy drinking problem as well.

I'm pretty sure that several kids saw their first unexposed breast on the F'Lips screen. Did it meet your expectations?

Know(Gunther) is that top "50 albums of 2010" on the Portland blog your list? If so I will definitely read. Yes, it's my list. Good luck finishing it though (that was a joke because I've only posted a third of the list so far). Hopefully I'll finish it before it's time to start my 2011 list. I used to have a lot more time to write.

I'm a tracks 1-4 kinda guy haha. Yea...I've come to sort of hate American Ghetto as a whole, but "When the War Ends" immediately stood out and continues to be a favorite of mine. Here is the video I mentioned. It didn't rewatch all of it, but it appears to be some sort of short film type video, because it is 13 minutes long. The scenery at the beginning is so cool though. www.youtube.com/watch?v=jieN2Hp5hS4I just listened to the new album for the second time. It won't be leaving my rotation anytime soon. I guess it helps that I am a big fan of theirs (thanks doumack), but this has already made me realize how dissapointed I was with American Ghetto.

@ Know: I have a habit of glazing over the last couple of songs on albums (maybe because the artists seem to usually do the same), so I didn't really notice that track until the 3rd or 4th listen. It has since become one of my favorites on the album though. Where I sit right now after a dozen or so spins, this is easily my favorite Portugal. The Man album. That soaring falsetto of his that floats throughout the entire album is ridiculously beautiful. Funny, because usually the first and last songs on an album are the ones I connect with the most. Once my ear adjusts to the style, often I zone out, at least the first couple times I listen to an album, but I always seem to sense when an album is about to end. With that said, the only song that really stood out on American Ghetto was the last song, "When the War Ends," and one of my favorite songs on the Satanic Satanist is the last song, "Mornings."

I want to write a letter to Poochfuck and ask them what, exactly, makes My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy .5 points better than Marvin Gaye's What's Going On. The easy answer is they don't have to kiss up to Marvin Gaye, because he is never going to play their festival. The real answer though is that I'm pretty sure they have different criteria for scoring reissues. I've seen them give a really bad score to a classic album because the reissue didn't bring anything new/different to the table. I think they give higher scores when the reissue has bonus tracks, cool gadgets, live tracks, and neat packaging, must owns for the true fans type stuff.

Portugal. The Man - In The Mountain In The Cloud Thoughts? First impression was much better than my first impression of their last two albums. They seem to have a lot of empty songs on their albums with one or two really catchy songs. They've done a great job creating their own sound, and this album feels sharper. I think after a couple more listens, it could become my favorite of theirs. Quick story about the closing song, "Sleep Forever." When I saw them earlier this year, they started the show with "Sleep Forever" blasting over the speakers, and they had a screen with what I believe was the music video projected on it. The video was random clips of the scenery in Alaska. It was a mighty cool intro, especially after about nine beers, and the anticipation waiting for the show to start. Needless to say, that song has been cemented in my brain every since, and yesterday was only the second time I've heard it. Is it that catchy of a song, or is it just catchy to me because of this experience?

Man 3 nights straight of any band, regardless of my love for them, seems like it would be a bit much but Ween seems to really know their shit in regards to setlists so hopefully it will be completely different each night. Either way, a New Years Eve with Ween in Denver sounds like a fucking blast. If a band has a tiny amount of common sense or creativity, they know fans will attend each show, and make sure they switch things up. I saw Modest Mouse four nights in a row, and I would have loved a fifth night. The setlist was different, and the shows were different. Ween, lots of common sense, tons of creativity. Three nights with them would be way too much fun. On the other hand, let me again tell you how much I hate the Black Keys.

Also, I really got into trance music when checking out the bands/acts I've never heard of on the Coachella lineup this year. Holy shit that Sasha set was right up my alley.
Anyone want to suggest a classic trance album or two I should listen to? As noted earlier, I like albums, so turn me onto a classic. I believe I fit the term, "chair raver." I love that shit at work.
