Add Reflektor to my list.
I haven't heard and it and I'll probably only ever hear it by accident, but when I do I'll probably nod my gin-soaked whiskers sullenly and pass weary approval in spite of myself. Also: cred to maintain.

It was St. Vincent, and leaving the Shins in time enough not to miss a single second of St. Vincent is one of the best decisions I've ever made.
I saw the Shins do an in-store at the now-defunct Music Millenium on NW 23rd in Portland on 10/31/03. Couple weeks before Chutes came out. I was a fool to ever see them again, let alone ten years later.

The Decemberists - Her Majesty... The Magnetic Fields -Love at the Bottom of the Sea Midlake - The Trials of Van Occupanther Future Bible Heroes - Partygoing
Tonight is ten years to the day that Stormy and I went to our first show together. The Decemberists, at Berbati's (if you can believe that). I forget sometimes how really excellent those first two Decemberists records are.

...maybe Mercer will breathe new life into those tunes onstage. The way he did with all those great old Shins songs last time the Shins played Sasquatch: by way of a hang glider that he doesn't even know is there.

Just listened to it. Gotta give them points for consistency, at least. That might as well have been this:

Does it sound anything like the first Broken Bells record? And if so, can someone remind me what the first Broken Bells record sounded like? Because in spite of listening to it roughly twenty times, I can't remember a single thing about it. Much less anything interesting.

Ok whew. I checked and the start date for Community is still unannounced beyond "mid season". Usually I think that means after the holiday break. The best part about Community anymore is looking forward to it and patting ourselves on the back for snatching it back from the brink of television oblivion. 'Cuz when it actually comes on, there is only sadness. It's like wishing on a monkey's paw for your dead son to come back to life and he does but in his eyes is the look of one who has seen too much, and in his heart is only violence.

New Midlake album Antiphon streaming over at NPR: www.npr.org/2013/10/27/240566876/first-listen-midlake-antiphonActs of Man was incredibly fucking boring, but Bamnan & Slivercork and The Trials of Van Occupanther are two of my favorite records of the 00's. Apparently the lead singer left the band halfway through the recording of this new one... The result sounds like an okay record by a completely different band. ...still better than Acts of Man, though. Jesus Christ.

On the other end of that, when I ordered the super-mega deluxe Crazy Clown Time box set, I ended up with two copies due to some mysterious shipping snafu. That'd be cool anyway, but that Crazy Clown Time set is by far the most expensive LP in my collection.
I ended up giving the extra copy to Friendly D, because I love that fucker.

Haha, that reminds me of the morning in February when I woke up in Seattle to the news that the Residents' show at the Neptune had been canceled. I was in what was probably the most despondent mood of my entire life when some poor woman from my bank called and started getting pushy with me over some minor account kerfuffle. I can guarantee that I ruined that woman's day.
