Looks like things are close to getting bad in the San Fran occupation with a woman having gotten the baton and the police surrounding the campsite while public works people threw out all of the protesters' belongings. I hope for the sake of their safety and the legitimacy of the movement it remains peaceful

One of the local news channels had sent down an intern to get some footage of our pre-march gathering yesterday and I answered some questions for him. Today, I've had multiple people tell me that I was awesome on the news.
No idea if it was edited to make me look like a clueless douche (anymore than I already am!) but the feedback has been good so far. If I can find it, I will show you guys so you can laugh at me for standing in the pouring rain and being angry at society.

egotvonline.com/2011/10/05/funny-occupy-wall-street-protest-signs/You should really look at those. Some are really funny. It's sort of the best and worst part about the occupy wall street thing - we turn to humor and irony to express our real frustrations because that leaves us an emotional "out" - because it seems so pointless to get really invested in something like this, because continually in our lives earnestness seems ridiculous. Because it's just so hard to feel really informed. All we know for sure is that it's all ridiculous and worth laughing at. But that's the most frustrating thing. I get really upset about this. I love the protests, I wish I could be a part of them, but at the same time I think the people in charge of everything don't give a shit, and frankly they don't need to. Bah.

I also particularly enjoyed:
"The clothes have no emperor!" "You can never find a good left-wing military coup when you need one" and "Shit is fucked up and bullshit"

First, the "I shaved my balls for this" picture has been around for a long time.
Second, the whole "y u no" meme has to die. Or, if it has to continue, let it continue on the internet. I don't think I could survive the douche chills I'd experience on seeing that sign in person. Jesus christ.
Third, "IGNORE ME GO SHOPPING" is the best sign by far.

tl;dr
OccupyStLouis marches to Bank of America building so members of the movement can withdraw their money and close their accounts, bringing their money to local credit unions.
BoA proceeds to call in the Police who form an impenetrable barricade around the building and when a gentleman (the guy being interviewed in the video) shows the police his BoA card with his picture on it and a bank statement and explains his desire to close out his account, the police officer asks the BoA manager if he can let the guy through and they replied, "No".
Fuck these people.

Dammit I want to watch this but youtube is blocked at work.
It would be so interesting if they all tried to withdraw their money in cash. First of all, I wonder what would happen if everyone left the bank with their life savings in a bag. Mass chaos could ensue, which is perhaps a justified reason to stop them from doing it all at once.
Second, people would be shocked to learn how little cash banks actually have relative to the amount of electronic money in everyones account. Depending on the amount of people that tried this, they could run out of money before everyone was done. I believe there is something like 25 electronic dollars for every physical dollar that exists.
"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered...I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies... The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs."
Thomas Jefferson
"If the American people only understood the rank injustice of our money and banking system - there would be a revolution before morning..."
Andrew Jackson
I think I am giving myself a way as a nerd who finds this stuff way too interesting.
