For those who don't know, and I'm sure 98% of boarders and lurkers don't care, Steely Dan is a jazz fusion pop duo. Walter Becker plays guitar and Donald Fagen, (the hit maker) plays keys and does lead vocals. They've made countless great albums over the last 40 years, but when they play live, they employ the best session musicians available. That meant 13 people on stage; three female vocalists, badass little kid drummer, piano, extra guitar, bass, trumpet, trombone, alto sax, baritone sax, and the Steely Dan duo. It's a collection of solid musicians, so to answer your question Burrito, it was solid. Everyone who reads this knows at least five Steely Dan songs, and probably more like 10-15. One of the musical highlights was when they played "Dirty Work," from their first album. They didn't play that song last year at Edgefield. I started grooving to the tune, then thought, "wait a second, some random dude was the vocalist on that song, not Steely Dan, so who is going to sing this?" One of the female backing vocalists ripped into the song, and it worked very well. Another highlight was when Walter Becker told the Portland crowd that they played their second live show in Portland in the early 70s, and how much they like Portland. He said something along the lines of, "we loved this city when it was nothing, and we watched it grow into a fantastic city, then we watched it regress into what it is now." Everyone laughed. They played for two hours, and were nice enough to end ten minutes before Fuck Buttons started, which was a ten minute walk away. I've been told the cross section between Steely Dan fans and Fuck Buttons fans is me.

I third Los Gorditos, but it would appear that wonk's been holding out on me. Taqueria Portland previously lived in a shit hole structure in a shit hole location. St. John's in North Portland to be exact, the newest almost gentrified ghetto. They shut down and opened a new location in the Grand Central Station building on Morrison, the bowling alley. It's fancy. They make their own tortillas, like Los Gorditos does, which is key if you want to be a respected Burrito establishment.

I am not a punk historian so I don't know a lot of those bands. However, I would be curious what you think of Deadkill. If you get a chance you should check them out. They have been getting better and better in the live setting. My favorite Seattle punk band that I have seen. deadkill.bandcamp.com/EDIT: I should say I don't know a lot of those bands' music. I know the names. I gave Deadkill a couple listens. I didn't hear much punk, more hardcore mixed with metal. I'll check them out next time they play in Portland. I like guitars and yelling.

The list wasn't meant to be comprehensive. If it was, how could I overlook Green Day and the Offspring? Dead Kennedy's aren't there either, although that is mostly because I forgot how to operate a CD player. I'm not a huge Black Flag fan anyway. Two different versions of the same band toured recently, neither with Henry Rollins, and I always confuse them with another punk band Anti-Flag. Black Flag has had 43 different band members, and I don't really care about any of them outside of Rollins. I was one of 14 people at Ginn's Coachella set though.

I still want to know who deleted his account and posts. Because it was not who created them. We get it. Your friend created a fake account pretending to be a real person, the real person didn't take kindly to it, contacted a moderator, so the account was deleted. Libel is a real word, look it up. Simple addition is simple. EDIT: So is simple subtraction:

Is a discussion about the worth of album names more rational than a discussion about the worth of a band's name?

If somehow the river made it into that photo it would be the greatest picture of the venue, ever. If somehow I knew nick wasn't somewhere in that photo, it would be the greatest picture of a venue, ever.

A couple weeks ago it looked like I was cruising to another easy victory. Then I lost my best power hitter (Brandon Belt), THE best fantasy pitcher alive (Jose Fernandez), and my first round draft pick (Prince Fielder). Injuries are part of the game, so I'm not crying too much. The league is going to be more exciting, and I'm now paying attention. I actually like two other teams much more than I like my team.
PS: I like Garrit Cole and Scott Kazmir a hell of a lot more than you do, but Strasburg, Wainwright, Gonzalez (when he gets healthy next week) and Gray are available for trade.
