It's gettin' to be that time. Rampant Spec 2012 thread is now a time capsule. Please try to stay on topic (haha).

QOTSA just confirmed an appearance at Download Festival in the UK, June 16-18. That's a convenient time to be doing a festival gig close to Sasquatch... www.facebook.com/QOTSA

I have it from a very reliable source that Mumford and Sons are scheduled to play a May date in Calgary at the Saddledome. If this turns out to be true then they are a guaranteed lock for one of the headliner spots.

I'd say that M&S is a guaranteed lock no matter what happens. They're huge, but they're new money, and that is just the kind of act that Snack's is willing to pay for (read: less expensive).

Do you really think they come cheap? Wouldn't you think that because they are in such high demand at the moment they would charge more?

Do I think they come cheap? No.
Do I think they come cheaper than Deadmau5, or Jack White, or Massive Attack? Yes.

Posted this in the 2012 thread. So: Foals. New album in early 2013. European/Australian dates in the winter. North America in the Spring?

Generic sounding low-rent indie band with new album? You'll probably get your wish.

I saw Foals in Bellingham last year and they were really really fun. The only problem is there were only 30 or so people in the venue and it was kinda awkward

That's the fuckin' worst. The first twenty minutes of that Dan Deacon show we just saw were kinda like that; the Neptune wasn't even close to being half full. Then it didn't matter anymore.

I saw them last year and the show was sold out (or at least very close) and they were fantastic. One of my top shows of the year, so much energy.

Haha sounds like you guys had a great time at the Deacon show though. Any chance he could be rampantly speculated about? I don't know how often he tours. The only time I saw him was at Bumbershoot and I had no idea who he was when we saw him. Fun times though and that seems like an act right up Sasquatch's alley

I am guessing it was right before/after their show in BHAM. They played The Wild Buffalo in Bellingham and that was a pretty small venue for them to be booked in the first place and I fully expected a sell out

I personally asked Deacon if he might be at Sasquatch and he basically said no in a more round about way. Bummer.
Hey Grams, what did you think of the Neptune as a venue?

I kinda feel like the Deac has obscure philosophical objections to things like Sasquatch. He's done festivals before, but not many and not often.
The Neptune is one of my favorite venues that I have been to, ever. It was beautiful. It is set up perfectly, with the bar area feeding directly into the GA floor. And those stained glass windows! Objectively they are kinda dorky, but by the end of the evening I wanted to lick them. I don't know if every artist who plays there sets up lights behind them like Dan Deacon did, but watching them flash and change color (Youtube vids have verified that this did in fact happen) was one of the coolest parts of the whole show.
In terms of quantities of sheer fucking fun, that show is waaaay up on my list. I'd have to think about it more thoroughly, but it might have been the actual most fun I've ever had at a show. That whole night was one of the craziest, most insanely fucking fun nights of my entire life.

One of the more popular venues but not that huge, like a thousand I think? Fox, Davers, help me out with that. Anyway, they had Naked and Famous opening for them too (which I missed) and I think they had a song that had just gained some popularity on the radio so that helped with ticket sales too. But Foals put on a great show that ranked as one of my favourite sets for most of the year. I'd be more than happy to see them again at the Gorge.

EDIT: wut? Apparently HG's Deacon night comment wasn't the last one after all. This is directed at that.
Yes it was!! And it all got started marvelously with pumpkin spice coffee and Sleepaway Camp. It's the little things I tell ya. I have a feeling Death Grips will get similarly awesome.
I'm not sure if Souly remembers the ride home from Deacon quite like I do, but I recall laughing my ass off and being a total fucking buffoon in the back seat of whoever's car we were in.
