Pretty sad day up here in Canada, we lost a great politician and a damn good man. Jack Layton, the leader of the opposition party, passed away this morning after a long fight with cancer. I didn't agree with Jack on a lot of issues, but I greatly admired his passion, his work ethic and his charisma. The world would be a lot better place if there were more politicians like Mr. Layton. His last words to Canadians were quite touching: www.cbc.ca/news/politics/story/2011/08/22/pol-layton-last-letter.htmlRIP Jack, you will be greatly missed.

I almost rear-ended someone when I heard the news on the radio this morning. Very sad.

Cancer has to be just about the worst, scariest thing in the world.
I would never vote for your party Mr. Layton, but I have the utmost respect and admiration for you as a person and politician.
RIP, Jack.

I didn't believe this when I heard it. I had a real soft spot for MR. Layton, as he was one of few politicians, especially party leaders, that I think truly belied in what he was pushing. A very sad day, even though I'd be lying if I said I didn't expect it a bit after seeing him on the news a month ago, part me was hoping Fighting Jack could fight this one as well, he will be missed.

Agreed, He'll be missed. I may not like his party's politics, but I think he was the classiest one of the current crop of party leaders. I just got back from a vacation out-of-country and am catching up on news. Crap this sucks.

I didn't vote for him but I respected his sincerity and honestness, not to mention the last words he left with us. Very enduring. The NDP did an amazing job this past election. The tributes for him are well deserved.

Hey guys, been reading this thread with text-to-speech. Funny thing - most posts read okay, but all of Delta's posts just produce the sound of rain sticks.
