Okay, I didn't want to be the guy to do this, but can we change the title of this thread already?
In most areas of discussion I am all for flippancy and tongue in cheekness, but to make me continually post in a thread that is headlined by the fucking Canucks is just plain cruel.
Something a little more general, perhaps?

Shootouts are the least exciting part of hockey. I hate them so much. I feel like I just wasted my time watching the team sport to watch 6 people do some target practice.

Since I don't have a team to cheer for, I'm just getting wrapped up in all of the excitement. A shootout would have been splendid. Still not sure if you're serious. They don't do shootouts in the playoffs, they will go to 19 overtime periods if they have to. The longest game ever went into 6 overtime periods, so they basically played 3 games in a row without stopping.

Hey Davers, what if they contiuned to play continuous overtime until the scheduling of the next season started in October? Then would we get a shootout?

I never claimed to know the first thing about hockey. I'll just shut up. My friend last night said they go up to two overtimes followed by a shootout. I promise I'll never post in this thread again until I learn a thing or two haha.

Hey Davers, what if they contiuned to play continuous overtime until the scheduling of the next season started in October? Then would we get a shootout? It would never get that far, players contracts expire July 1st, at which point the other team could sign them and they would just pot one in their own net. There would be treason everywhere! Like Game of Thrones!

It's ok, you don't have a real team in your state (and you really should have one).
FD, it's my thread and I like the Canucks, so I'm going to continue to torture you.

I have an idea; next time the Oilers make the playoffs, the thread title can change.

Fixed. EDIT: They need to get Lowe the fuck-outta-there in a hurry. Playing Hall, RNH and Gagner at 18 years old was the most bone headed thing ever to do. Unless they are Sidney Crosby they should not be in the NHL at 18yrs old. Gagner has so much talent, but has turned into a stinker due to what I'm sure has been way too high of expectations and demoralization on a shitty team. Let them win, play hard and develop on the farm team. Gagner is 22years old and has played 5 (5!) NHL seasons! WTF Oilers? The biggest thing for me is, let them be in their fucking prime when they are playing in their entry level contract (see Giroux or even a guy on our very own team like Eberle). Why bring them in at 18 only to have them hit their stride during their RFA year at 21yrs? So stupid and so expensive. Also let's not kid ourselves, this is Edmonton! We need to practically trap talent into playing for us. The likely hood of Hall, RNH and the new #1 pick leaving or wanting out at their RFA year is not in our favor. EDIT 2: The other problem you get when you are a team that constantly brings its young players into the fold either right away or a year after the draft is that it becomes the norm and other players start to get cranky and upset with the organization when they are 20yrs old and still asked to stick with the farm team for another year or so. They've backed themselves into a tight corner if they pick Yakapov and then try to tell him that he's playing in the minors next year and he's upset about it.

I agree with pretty much everything you said in that edit, FD, but I can see why they rushed Hall and RNH into the mix. They only did it to appease the fanbase. I would have liked Omark to get a legit shot at some point, but they fucked that one up and now he's disillusioned and bitter.
I do honestly think they'll at least contend for a playoff spot next year though. It's going to be an interesting few years watching how they deal with all the contracts of the young kids.

I agree with Alex here. After playing RNH for 10 games it was apparent that he was one of, if not THE top player on the team. Doesn't matter what age they player or what organization, if you are that important to your teams sucess, you're playing.
Another #1 pick and Edmonton is destined to be a very good team in 2-3 years. They will push for a playoff spot next year and might get there. Eberle-RNH-Hall was the best line in hockey at times last season and they will only get better. They have an up and coming goaltender, although they do have big holes on D.
Chicago just went through the same thing, and it won them a cup.

If they don't make a move in the off-season for some solid D, then next year is going to be another bust.

Not at all. Drafting a D-man rarely works out, and almost never helps in the immediate future. I'd rather they package up a few guys and trade for someone in the 26-28yr old range with some experience.

True enough. I've been following the scouting reports for a little while and they 'say' that murray is the most nhl ready prospect in the draft. A good all-around d-man who can play in all situations. If the oil are still in rebuild mode (and I think they are) I think Murray could end up a better fit than Yakupov. Who knows. Maybe they trade the pick for a mid-age number 2 or 3 d-man.

I'm waiting patiently for the roster freeze to be over at the end of the playoffs, because I think Tambo has something in the works
