Me too, at APW last year. I wasn't impressed, but who knows I didn't stay long enough to really give them a chance. It wasn't good. Who else did you see at APW? Did you see akron family? Really I only went to see the National, only had a ticket for that day. I saw shearwater and Fleet Foxes before, and was planning to stay for VW and YYYs, but it started raining buckets so we left after the National's amazing set. The conditions were so shitty, that they gave everyone else another day of entry. We were just in town for the weekend, so we still wanted to tour around alot. We went the last night to check out the Black Keys, MGMT and coldplay (my friend's choice). Didn't get the full APW experience at all, but shitty weather was to blame.

I saw it mentioned in another thread that Deadmau5 is playing wookie...would this push PE and the Hold Steady down the list to an earlier slot? Is Deadmau5 most likely headlining?

i hadn't really listened to much of MMJ or massive attack's music prior to the announcement, but i can now say i think they'll be great headliners for sasquatch. plenty of quality tracks between the two of them. i'm still kind of unsure about ween though. I've got the same concern about ween. I've been trying to get into their stuff, but it just isn't working for me. Anyone have any suggestions for their best material? Back to topic I will not be missing Mumford and Sons, who have a great sound. Also just started listening to No Age and so far, so good.

Haha, I saw MGMT like that somewhere. Me too, at APW last year. I wasn't impressed, but who knows I didn't stay long enough to really give them a chance.

buying my tickets today. i'm so excited. the national portugal the man broken social scene dr dog cymbals eat guitars dirty projectors new pornographers mountain goats girls minus the bear missing miike snow for BSS sucks. honorable mentions depending on conflict: the middle east, long winters, mumford & sons, tallest man on earth, midlake, vetiver, NO AGE, japandroids, she & him, passion pit... the middle of monday is crazy packed. they have to add 3 still so hopefully it pushes japandroids earlier. I very much doubt they'll push Japandriods earlier, they are getting pretty big. You might be able to catch the first bit of their set though? I've got the same issue with miike snow, and Why? I wanted to see them both, but there is no way I'm leaving that front stage area in between BSS and the National. That's going to be an epic 2.5 hours.

Hey, McFly. I thought I told you never to come in here.
Chill the fuck out. This is a message board about an amazing festival, not a pissing competition. Bigger acts play late at night, regardless of stage. Deal with it.

Bahahaha agreed I8. Believe it or not, the acts they have announced as headliners will headline this festival. As it has been stated many times before there will more than likely be a few more mid-level adds, but nothing headliner worthy. Looks like there are about 6-7 bands less than last year (not including comedy/dance tent), so expect a few more late additions.

The only problem was we would mix it with sprite/coke which was $5 each anyways, so it was a little counterproductive. Are you saying you're not allowed to bring in sealed cans or bottles of pop or juice in? Just water? That is correct. I had to chug/trash 3 vitamin waters right at the gate last year. I hated myself for a while after that...

How about the cost of band t-shirts as another popularity factor? NIN, JA and KOL all had expensive stuff vs. Fleet Foxes, Of Montreal and John Vanderslice. Although there is a wildcard in Street Sweeper Social Club, their shirts were $35...they played at 1 or 2 on the main stage. This is meant to be humourous.

I was really hoping I'd get to see The Hold Steady, but if things shape up the way they do there is little chance. It wouldn't be worth it to try and make my way over to wookie in time. I guess I'll be at main stage from 5:40 - 11:30 on Saturday. Also Laura Marling vs. Patrick Watson...easy choice with PW but still wanted to see Ms. Marling. Sunday looks like i'll be bouncing back between stages alot. Monday is looking like the easiest day, still can't belive Japandriods are on Yeti though...

Seems like they are closing out the Wookie stage with an older more established band all three nights. Public Enemy are circa 82 and Nada Surf are circa 92, New Pornographers are a bit newer at 97, but still. Interesting versus last year Bon Iver, EITS and Of Montreal (if I'm not mistaken) all new-ish bands.

I'm making the trip from Edmonton. Which border crossing should I hit? I'm thinking of going through Cranbrook. Also, I'm thinking of leaving here at 12am Friday and driving through the night, showing up around 3-4pm, setting up, taking a nap and partying my face off. We took the Kingsgate crossing last year near Cranbrook (seems like everyone else did too), and waited a while. This year I think we're going to try to leave (Calgary) Thursday and drive a few hours, maybe even get over the border and then show up super early on Friday. I don't know what time the gates open, but I figure sometime around noon. Definitely think it's a plus to get there early on Friday. That way you will have sunlight to set up your tent, meet the neighbours, check out the area, and get the party started! By the way, although last year was my first year it seems like Friday night is the party night. The rest of the nights were pretty calm from what I remember (at least in comparison).

Last year I didn't see any actual bathrooms in premium, or if there were any they soon broke down. Lots of port a potties or "honey buckets" all over the place though. The shower situation (as mentioned previously) was horrendous last year. I left early Sunday night (during JA) to take a shower, but when I got back the showers were broken/something was wrong with the plumbling. I went back the next morning/afternoon to check them out, and they had just fixed the problem. So, I booked it back to my site to get my towel & shit and by the time I got back (2-3 minutes) there was a 5 person wait. Still, having a shower was nice but I'm preparing for no shower again this year. Do yourself a favour and don't expect to have one.

I'm just starting my 3 month Sasquatch only listenening experience. Trying to get into some of the older stuff that I never really listened to when I was younger (Ween, Massive Attack, Nada Surf). I've got a pretty good grasp on all the Canadian acts. Hoping to get into some of the dance tent acts this year too, from what I hear they are all pretty established.

I stayed in premiere last year with two other people. We liked how it was much more quiet as the night grew later, but that we could still go party in regulal camping as much as we wanted. I never had an issue with walking around with booze either, no one gave me shit. Showers were bullshit last year, but I hope after reading some other posts that they will have more this year. We took the shuttle there and back the 2nd and 3rd days, but it seriously isn't that bad of a walk anyways. Is it worth it? Well for us it was, as we needed the quiet to rest up for the next day of intense heat. If they have more showers next year and maybe some other little incentives then it will be well worth it. Fingers crossed!

Not cool! I really want to see each of the top 5 bands on Saturday. What're the chances of them playing at the same time? My Morning Jacket / Vampire Weekend / The National / Deadmau5 / Broken Social Scene MMJ headlining, probably going to play against Deadmau5. Now the question is whether VW, The National, or BSS will be headlining the second stage... my money is on either The National or BSS. You're probably going to be faced with the following conflicts: MMJ v. Deadmau5 VW v. The National OR BSS And, partially MMJ v. The National/BSS. This is my worst nightmare! Part of me wants The National to play the main stage so I can just stay there and see VW and MMJ right after, but the other part wants to get close and have a better view at wookie...either way I'm missing one of my top 10 and pretty choked about it. If I had to choose one to miss it would have to be VW though...I already missed them at APW last year.

Who? The National Where? All Points West When? July 2009
Much like the OP I saw The National at APW, and although it was raining it was an amazing set. Although it was the lead singer Matt Berringer who dive the crowd dive and ended up singing the end of Mr. November within the crowd. It was intense. All in all an amazing set, and I can't wait to see them again. I left before Vampire Weekend came on, so it'll be nice to see them too, but much more excited to hear some of the new National stuff.
Who? Japandroids Where? Legion #1 - Sled Island - Calgary When? June 2009
Had only heard rumblings about the band before attending this show, but it ended up being well worth it. They have great stage presence and really bring you into the set. It'll be nice to see them in a different atmosphere. The guys from Vancouver might end up headlining the Yeti stage, although they probably have enough following for Wookie.
Who? City & Colour Where? Jack Singer Concert Hall - Calgary x2, Virgin Festival - Calgary When? 2007, 2008 & 2009
I've seen Dallas Green (of Alexisonfire fame) perform his solo act three times now and it has yet to get old. His voice is incredible and his lyrics are peircing. If you haven't seen him play then please do yourself a favour and check out his show.
