I've had little time for internet lately but I figured I'd come on here to say that I had a great time at Pemberton and I saw lots of amazing stuff. I was pretty impressed with how smoothly most things went, given the reputation of the festival. Probably won't be able to make it to next year's festival but I'm happy I could go to this one.
I'm down with the longer sets as well. Don't like that the headliners have no competition though. Not a fan of Deadmau5 and I've seen Outkast so I would prefer to have another choice or two.
Friday is free of conflicts for me. Pretty bummed that Earl had to cancel but at least I've seen him before. Saturday has the Girl Talk vs. Flying Lotus conflict which sucks. Not sure what to see yet, Sunday has Justice vs. Modest Mouse vs. St. Vincent. I'll probably go with Justice because I just saw St. Vincent and I'll be seeing Modest Mouse back in Calgary.
My days go like this at the moment:
Friday: Blondie -- Tyler, the Creator -- Soundgarden (some) -- Kendrick Lamar -- Nine Inch Nails -- Schoolboy Q -- Best Coast Saturday: Dinosaur Jr. -- Metz -- TV on the Radio -- The Flaming Lips -- The New Pornographers -- Girl Talk/Flying Lotus -- Araabmuzik Sunday: Foxygen -- Fucked Up -- Frank Ocean -- Justice -- Outkast
Jacques Greene and Cashmere Cat outdoors tonight (if the rain stops) followed by the Fresh & Onlys at the Golden Age Club and Mission of Burma at the #1 Legion. Tomorrow I'll be for sure catching Blitzen Trapper, Neko Case, and Dan Deacon. Saturday is Touche Amore, Rocket from the Crypt, Spiritualized, and St. Vincent.
That's a good list of shows my friend. Pixies and Modest Mouse should be great at Mac Hall, I just can't fathom paying to see them again since neither have released anything worthwhile since I last saw them at that venue. On my horizon...
Mission of Burma (Sled Island) - Legion #1 Bob Mould with FURY THINGS (Sled Island) - The Republik Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Jubilee Auditorium Matthew Good - Calgary Stampede Shakey Graves - Palomino (Stampede Show) Gordon Downie w/ The Sadies - Calgary Stampede Arcade Fire - Shitty Saddledome X-Fest -Shitty Fort Calgary
Also, after talking to Pink Mountaintops after their set at Sasquatch, they are apparently playing Calgary in July or August, so that show will definitely be added to my list.
06/18-22 - Sled Island 06/27 - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds @ Jubilee Auditorium 7/06 - Tokyo Police Club @ Calgary Stampede 7/18-20 - Pemberton Music Festival @ Pemberton, BC 7/22 - Modest Mouse w/ Kevin Drew @ MacEwan Hall 08/12 - Arcade Fire @ the Saddledome 10/05 - Pixies @ MacEwan Hall
I got set lists from both The National and QOSTA and the both skipped songs that were supposed to be played. Not to mention that Queens left the stage 20 minutes early and still left a song or two off, one of which was Faireweather Friends dammit. But my God, they were amazing!
Aw man Fairweather Friends is so awesome. That's too bad. What did the National skip? They played for pretty much their entire time slot but I know sometimes headliners stick around a bit longer than scheduled so they could have squeezed some more in.
