The Decemberists-I've been wanting to see them live for almost 4 years now. Now, I get to see them, plus a ton of other bands. I'm glad this will be my first time.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs-Maybe not the greatest as far as beautiful music goes, but what they lack in technical skill, they more than make up for in raw energy.
Girl Talk!!!
and a lot of the smaller bands(listed a few in the line-up thread up top).

Well there is a small town just a few miles north of the gorge turn off, called Quincy. Which was, at least to me, surprising because it was a extremely Mexican village in the middle of Washington... Every little town(and some of the big ones, too) in Central Washington is Mexican. Well, not every town, but a good bit. And I don't mean that in any offensive way, I'm just saying. Ran a lot of Cross Country in Yakima, Pasco, Wenatchee, etc.

DeVotchKa is pretty tight, too. and yeah, Josh, from the little I've heard, EitS are pretty sweet. My friend from Oly(we go to school together, but we'll be in our own locales by the festival weekend, but thats not really important) are listening to a lot of the more obscure(at least to us) acts playing. So far, out of the little smatterings we've heard: thats just the little we listened to in like the last 1/2 hour. I'm sure between now and May we'll get what we like and what we don't pretty much hammered out. Hopefully there won't be too many staging conflicts.

yeah, just read the blog.
Is the 28th the pre-sale, or just the general sale?
The blog didn't say, but the way it made it sound, it seems like it(especially since there is the $45 price increase after).
So yeah, anyone who is serious about going, buy your ticket the 28th or March 1st. When you think about it, its basically free basic camping for one car.

I know I said basically the same thing in the release thread, but yeah, maybe not the best line-up as far as name recognition goes, but that's what will be part of the fun. Finding some band that just goes out there to put on a good performance knowing that no one is really there to see them. Those are the bands that have nothing to lose, but a whole lot to gain, and finding a good band like that can be very rewarding.
Of course, I'm excited regardless since it'll be my first trek down for the festival with a few of my college buddies. But as long as the atmosphere is good(both the literal atmosphere weather wise, and just all the fans and people in attendance), there are a few bands that I know jack shit about that turn out to surprise me, and whatnot, then I'll be happy. But I have a feeling once the headliner or sub-headliner gears up to play, I'll be heading either back to my tent to start the party early, or getting in line for the dance tent. Especially on Sunday.
But the comedy tent looks like it might be great. Big H. Jon fan, so that'll be great.

maybe not the best line-up as far as name value goes, but I think a lot of the fun will be going there and finding out that the more obscure bands are downright awesome.
And yeah, Saturday will rock. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Decemberists. That will be cool.
As far as just going off who I know, Saturday sounds like it'll be the best day for me personally, with Monday being behind that, and then Sunday being the weakest day of the three. But hopefully they'll be some good stuff from the bands less celebrated. Not that I dislike JA or NIN, but I'm not really super excited to see them. I like maybe 5 NIN songs and maybe 3 JA songs. So I'll probably be looking at other stuff to do that night(perhaps getting in line early for the dance tent?).

they're just college kids having fun. They don't take themselves seriously at all. And what is kinda not-really funny about it is, since girl talk uses samples of stuff, rather than them doing the same thing, is they play actual instruments instead. Sure, its a pretty hokey concept, but they aren't looking to be big famous musicians, or really do anything worthy of being a masterpiece or anything. They're just having fun and doing something that could possibly earn them some extra beer money.
and I happen to think girl talk is a lot of fun. Sure, he ymay not play his own instruments and whatnot, but its incredibly great music to just cut loose to. I never pop in "Feed the Animals" when I am jonesing for some beautifully composed music, but if I need something to dance too, GT always hits the spot.

Basically, if Trent and Co. play pre-With Teeth stuff, it could be awsome. Hell, I could stand a lot of With Teeth stuff, too.
If its all post-With Teeth, then I will not be too hyped up. I thought Year Zero was a terrible album, and I have yet to listen to his other stuff really(Ghosts I-IV and The Slip), but if its anything like YZ, then I'll take a big helping of PASS. When I listen to new NIN, its like I'm listening to a band that was inspired heavily by the 90's NIN, but isn't nearly as good. I know this'll probably sound a little morbid, and some will probably give me crap for it, but Trent Reznor was way better at what he does when he was completely drugged out of his mind. Sober and Driven Trent is...well...pretty boring.

That would be great if Girl Talk ended up doing both. The people I'm going with (and myself, too) are all girl talk fans. And my sis is a really big fan(she's in a GT coverband. How that works, exactly, I'm not sure. But they've sent him some of their recordings, and he's told them he likes it, so I guess it works all right), so I can brag about that if he plays. Like ccoult pointed out, there is more than enough time for him to possibly make an appearance. A flight from Seattle to Chicago is only a few hours(though, there'd probably be good travel time from wherever the Summercamp site is and a major airport, and the Gorge and SeaTac isn't exactly a quick trip), so, really, I mean, if he had a day or so of travel time between the two, he could easily do it, especially if the price is right.

I really don't have anything to say about KoL if they were to headline. I've listened to a few of their songs, and nothing really stuck out at all(may just be me listening to the wrong songs though). If they do get the headliner nod, I may go back and try and listen to some of the consensus' favorite tracks, but if they're just a mid-day band or something, I'll probably try and find something at one of the other stages/tent(s).

I pretty much just planned on either coming here, going to the blogspot blog, the official website, or maybe even wikipedia. If none of those work, I'll consider this.

yeah, I think it was squashed just because of scheduling conflicts.
I may be the only one who wouldn't mind seeing No Doubt, but only if they played their 90's stuff, and none of their "Rock Steady Era" stuff. I know its not super popular around here, but I really liked No Doubt back when I was a wee lad in the 90's, and I really don't care if the music I'm hearing is old or new, good music(In my opinion) is good music to me, regardless of time.

Tenacious D would be fun. I don't really see them as a Headliner, but possibly right before one, or even during mid-day Sunday or something. It'd be nice to kick back, light up a J and listen to some D though.

I think the No Doubt Rumor was squashed, and I think Jane's counts as the reunion.

Mind you I'm not the biggest Addiction or Nails fan around(each do have a few good songs, each, IMO), but I'm not about to write off the whole festival just because a few bands(most of which aren't even 100% confirmed yet) that make up not even close to a majority of the acts that will play that weekend may not be what I want. Sasquatch organizers could listen to exactly what I wanted, but probably everyone here would hate that. So on and so forth. Just curious, who would your ideal headliners be? I would have loved to have been able to go to 06 to see Beck. That would have been cool, but I understand why I lot would hate to see him him headline twice in 4 years(same backlash NIN is getting). I'd like to see the Zutons in some fashion, but they don't have the headliner appeal. And that right there is my main problem. A lot of the bands I'd love to see just don't scream headliner at all. But I'm gonna be there more for the undercard rather than the headliners, since when you think about it, they make up such a small portion of the festival in total.

Wow, that's a very thorough analysis haha. I'd say Picturesque is probably their most well known/well received album. I am praying that they will play "The Island, Come and see, The Landlord's Daughter, You'll not feel the drowning," it's unlikely since the song is 13 minutes long, but it is incredible. me,too. that is a great song
