I dig it B-Rad. Of course I was being pompous. I believe in something Roald Dahl wrote in Matilda. To paraphrase, if you are going to do something you don't want questioned, you have to do it in a larger-than-life way. For better or worse I think the posturing and condescension are an important part of how I present my arguments. Maybe that undermines what I am trying to say sometimes, but especially as an invisible internet man being larger than life at least causes people to really engage with the conversation instead of just glossing ober it and dismissing it. I'd hate to argue with you IRL, HG...I'd get my butt kicked. Perhaps if I wasn't spending too much time chasing after balls and more time reading I would have been advised by Mr Dahl (and considered his viewpoint) as you have.

I'm way more intelligent than you. HG, to say this is pompous, elitist, offensive and presumptuous. I fall far closer to the likeness of davers and that other guy you are arguing with when it comes to my appreciation for music. I have the utmost respect for your passion for music, and your commitment to it. It just doesn't appeal to me like it does for you. I am not going to pretend to be too busy to commit to Jethro Tull, Woody Guthrie, John Fahey, or any of the other forefathers of what I consider my favortie style of music; I just don't want to. And perhaps I am missing out on some self actualization or reward from not doing so. But I'm quite happy in life, so I imagine I must get it somewhere else. So, does that make me less intelligent than you? You are a smart man, so I am certainly not going to argue the opposite. I am just going to say we have different passions; one of yours is music, and perhaps you presume that everyone on this board also shares that passion and should try to be equally versed in it. I can't say that I share that passion to the same level you do; that does not make me less intelligent. To compare it; I have seen you post your negative viewpoints concerning sports. I would consider to have a passion for sports, something you obviously do not share. I do not consider sports to simply be a battle of brawn...there is a huge strategical component to it, and this is the aspect I enjoy the most. There is a lot of intelligent things going on in athletics, and certainly some intelligent people who have written endless novels and data on strategy. Defensive schemes in basketball - you see it as five guys trying to cover five other guys. I see rotations, hedges, low-percentage shots, help defence, etc... Am I more intelligent because I can see the light in sports that you cannot? Do I pity you for glossing over it instead of being active in the community? P.S. Great effort with the two posts though. I agree with a lot of what you said. And I didn't really want to start an argument with you, but the quality of them deserved my effort.

There is no doubt in my mind that this quote, heavily dipped in sarcasm, was written by one Friendly Destroyer Or another decent human being that doesn't think rape jokes are funny. Evidently so...

The witty reference to date rape and roofies is fucking sweet! I totally know what you mean - my bros and I date rape chicks all the time, then we get together to drink beers and high five each other later. Once I was raping this girl and she FARTED. Hahahahaha!1!! Dude, I told that shit to my bro Andy and he blew beer out his nose. Date rape is totally the funniest shit EVER. There is no doubt in my mind that this quote, heavily dipped in sarcasm, was written by one Friendly Destroyer

Michael Chapman Bill Callahan
June 22 at Neumo's in Seattle. I would consider driving down to Seattle for this show, but damnit, it's on a Wednesday. If someone else is equally excited, they may be able to convince me to make the hop, skip and a jump on down for the day.

I'm glad you can handle at times being my internet punching bag (and I know...the hits come softer than a Michael Bolton album).
I'd do it more often if I thought I had a fraction of the creativity and confidence you display in your argumentation. Any regular poster here knows you provide ample bait.

That sentence doesn't make any sense at all. Hmmm. You're right. I guess I look pretty dumb making a comment I know so little about rather than just moving on. I guess I can see with this comment how I could draw ire from those more passionate about the topic at hand.

I was hoping this thread was about some variation of the Wizard's Council. Turns out it is about some Canadian sporting event. LAME.[/b][/quote] "The Residents' are nothing but a hack sideshow of the 'Rocky Horrow Picture Show'.

A Record a Day = R.A.D. A Sport a Day = S.A.D. It wasn't meant to be. Very Cute

I guess what I meant is that it is a sporting event that only lame Canadians care about. First of all I'm not Canadian, I'm Irish, and secondly Canadians probably care less about soccer than Americans do. Nice to see that welcoming American spirit though! I guess that's why I chose to move to Canada rather than America! Anyway, I've found a place in Ellensburg that will show it. Bit of a road trip that morning! But if anyone knows somewhere closer I'm all ears!! - Soccer is the fourth most participated sport by adults in Canada. Ice Hockey is second (behind Golf, if you can believe it) - Soccer is played by 44% of all children aged 5-14 in Canada. Hockey is played by only 27% of children aged 5-14. - Hockey still kills Soccer when it comes to TV ratings in Canada, CFL and Curling are highly ranked as well, followed by the Blue Jays. - Quincy is a bit closer than Ellensburg, and it appears as though Google will tell you there are a couple of sports bars in town that may play a Champions League Final.

Not one call came in to our dept. since the game started. Not one. You know how there's that practical joke where you put saran wrap on a toilet seat and people don't see it when they take a dump? Well, I think somebody Saran Wrapped Luongo's net last night.

Not sure what your options are so it is hard to say. If you take I-5 up to the Portland area and then go down 84 through the Columbia River gorge and then up through Washington it is nice. We go that way from Portland. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Route_97I have never driven it, but I imagine it would be more scenic than the I-5, which I have taken. It's also a more direct route, however likely slower. If you do drive it, let me know how it goes!!!

No Angry Birds? Tilt To Live? Tiny Wings? Sporcle. Great for when you have a couple of minutes of spare time alone. Also great for road trips. About two hours of our trip to Sasquatch last year flew by playing Sporcle.

That game looked fucking insane from the highlights I watched. The ref was a total douche but the players were definitely playing rough. And come on, throwing your jersey into the crowd? How amateur. That was a great PK though! Yeah, That Hassli character is already drawing some ire from the fans. He's our designated player and he is already received his second red card, what, 5 games into the season? Take note, Pea - Baldomero Toledo. If he is your referee at any games, be prepared to verbally spout your frustrations for 90+ minutes in his direction. I knew it was going to be a excessively reffed game 5 minutes in when one of our guys received a yellow for a perfect 1-footed side tackle that got all ball.

Went to my first MLS game last night!
Whitecaps vs NE Revolution. The referee stole the game frrom the fans. 3 red cards and a bunch of yellows that were completely uncalled for.
That being said, the atmosphere was great. I enjoy the intimacy of the pitch (unlike BC Place) and the crowd was great. Hope it keeps up.
I'll be back for more!
P.S. was able to get scalped tickets far below face. In case any of you Vancouverites were planning a trip out there, I would recommend this option, instead of paying the ridiculous Ticketasster surchages
