Please add Alabama Shakes - Sound & ColorI never listened to their first album much, but I really like this one. I felt the same way about the first one and this one is really, really good. Its everything I wanted the first one to be.

I don't know why I'm surprised you're not a big Brand New fan but I am for some reason. When I was 15 I went straight from punk (a la Dead Kennedys and Crass) to stupid hipster bullshit (a la Malkmus & the Jicks and Sonic Youth), and ended up skipping the mid-00s "alternative rock"/emo boom in general. The only album of theirs I ever gave a shot was The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me and that was waaaay later, and it never really clicked. Ah, this makes sense. I did emo at that age instead of punk.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills, because that lineup is garbage, especially for $65 per day. At $40 you might have me. Maybe. I don't know why I'm surprised you're not a big Brand New fan but I am for some reason.

Maybe Bumbershoot will get the Deftones / Incubus / Death from Above 1979 tour? It wraps up in San Diego on 8/30 (Bumbershoot: 9/5-7). But a week off might not make sense, so I'm probably wrong. What can I say, I miss lineup speculation! High School me would be very excited. Actually, present day me would be pretty thrilled too cause Deftones and DFA are still great live acts.

A friend got bailed on for a show tonight at Mt. Baker Theater. So I am going to watch Neko Case tonight. I don't really know any of her music but I am still excited to go see some live music! I potentially am going to be seeing a lot this weekend: Friday - Wild Throne @ The Shakedown Saturday - BOTSC, Lesbian, Grenades @ Columbia City Theater Sunday - Great Falls, Tacos!, Theories, Old Iron @ Chop Suey Taking full advantage of help with the baby from father in-law. Don't think I can stay for 4/20 though Burrito. Turns out that is the day he flies back to Baltimore Haha, I had a friend get bailed on for her show on Thursday in Olympia. Not sure if I'll be able to head down for it though.

I'm trying to figure out what this could be. It doesn't really make sense with the way block party is scheduled unless it's a bunch of different stages mashed together. Ratatat would he on the main stage but they wouldn't have music going past midnight outside. Oh well, I'll be quite happy if ratatat, Jamie xx, and com truise play.

Adding: Braids - Deep In The IrisUnless Grimes comes out out of nowhere and drops her new one on us, this is probably going to be my Album of the Year. It's between this or Vulnicura (and maybe Gliss Riffer). Amazingly good. I need to spend a lot of time with it though. Lots to chew on in this one. In general, I'm extremely in favor of the general shift away from irony and towards emotional honesty in a lot of music these days.

Sad Sufjan is the best Sufjan The only happy song on Adz was the last two-minute stretch of Impossible Soul, and even that was somewhat bittersweet. This is a fair point but you know what I meant

Yepper. Should be a pretty easy find for the savvy. Still disappointed it's not a sequel to Adz but it's still pretty great. Sad Sufjan is the best Sufjan

Anyone hitting the Sandrider/Kinski show tonight? Damn, wish I would have checked the board before the show. Did you end up going? I was there. Sold out show! That was pretty sweet. My wife is 8 1/2 months pregnant so we were in the very back and the Neumos staff gave her a seat. It kind of sucked in the sense of not being able to see the show but it sounded great. Blood Drugs is new to me. I love their track off of the Seattle Noise Vol. 1 compilation and when they played that one I got super into it. I think I would have enjoyed the set more if I knew more of their songs ahead of time. Kinski was fucking awesome. They opened with the "Beyond In Touch With My Feminine Side" and I about peed my pants out of excitement. That is my favorite track of the year so far. They also had a friend from Sweden hop on for the last song. I guess he happened to be passing through. Sandrider was rad as always. We moved up to the merch booth for that set. It was pretty fun watching the crowd go nuts. Would have liked to meet ya. Next time! Haha I was probably real close to you and your wife then. I was pretty much middle back for most of the show. I missed Blood Drugs but Kinski and Sandrider were great. It'd been a while since I'd seen Kinski so it was fun seeing them again. I'd somehow never seen Sandrider before but they were predictably awesome. Some other time!

For the first time maybe ever, I agree with Wonk. As confused as I was about the play call initially, I did come to understand the reasoning behind it later. As difficult as it is to give Belichick credit for anything, he knew exactly what he was doing by not calling the timeout and what it would force the Hawks to do. As good of a play as it was for Butler, and as much as it pains me to do it, I have to place most of the blame for the interception on Wilson. In that situation, you have to put the ball where your guy can get it or nobody can. If it's not a guaranteed catch, you throw it out of the back of the end zone. Instead, he threw it right into the middle of a crowd and gave Butler the opportunity to (illegally?) push Kearse out of the way and steal the game. Regardless of who gets the blame or the credit, the ball had no business being in the air in that exact spot. buncha thoughts: - Wilson probably deserves the 4th most blame for the play. Kearse is first for just giving up when it came to blocking Browner, Lockette 2nd for thinking he was about to win the Super Bowl and not trying, Bevell for being dumb, Russ for throwing a bad pass. I'm not remotely absolving Russell, but there seems to be a push to declare that the worst throw ever which isn't fair. It was like a foot too high. Not where he wanted it but it wasn't a catastrophe -Butler's play was totally legal, defenders have as much right to the ball as receivers do. He didn't interfere with Lockette, he made a play on the ball. -If Butler doesn't make that play, Belichick gets crucified for not calling that time out. It's easy to celebrate the decision because it worked but it's the wrong decision 95% of the time.

I congratulate Pete Carroll for taking the blame. However, 98% of Seahawks fans don't understand football, and the media blowing up the bad play call story didn't help. You end up with thousands of, "Tell me what to like, tell me what to think," fans blaming Carroll for not giving the ball to Marshawn, because they are convinced Marshawn can fall out of bed and gain two yards. There are people a lot smarter than media and fairweather Seahawks fans who make football decisions. I'm not one of them, but I can tell you what happend. Second and goal at the one. 28 seconds left. The Seahawks have one time out. They have three plays left and have to throw once, to ensure they don't have to spike the ball to stop the clock, or get forced into hurry up panic mode. Everyone thinks that Marshawn can back flip into the end zone from the one to win the game, because most of them don't understand a sell out goaline blitz, where 11 guys are focused on stopping one guy. That's why Carroll called the pass play. The defense was in sell out mode, and the Seahawks needed to throw the ball once anyway. If you've ever played Madden, you understand clock management. Now Belichick decided not to take a timeout when Lynch got the ball to the one with a minute left on first and goal (after the fourth greatest Super Bowl catch of all time). I couldn't understand this, Seattle was going to score, NE would have almost a minute left to get a FG to tie the game. I think Belichick didn't call a time out to force the Seahawks to throw the ball once. Then they pretended to play sell out goaline blitz, and the kid made the play of his career. Why not give props to Belichick and the DB who made the play of his life. Carroll didn't lose the game because he didn't give the ball to Marshawn. I think he lost the game because he got outcoached. 2 things: -They weren't in a "goal line" defense, they had 3 corners on the field. It was a hybrid and the Hawks misread it -They threw a slant pass, into traffic, to their 4th ( ) best receiver. I get the decision to throw a pass, I will never understand the decision to throw that pass. I don't disagree with calling out everyone for blowing up about it being the worst play of all time. It still was a poor decision.
