Got to see James Blake last night after a short term freakout because it sold out before I got tickets. He was amazing! It was the first show I'd seen entirely sober since I don't know when and it was beautiful and impressive.
The only downside was that the crowd was so fucking disrespectful. He makes some quiet, very pretty songs and during every single quiet part of a song the room was fucking LOUD with chatter. Like, I had to strain my concentration (sober concentration even!) in order to even hear his voice. I overheard a girl behind me say "oh my god this part is so pretty" OK WELL FUCK YOU I COULD HEAR IT BETTER IF YOU'RE NOT TALKING ABOUT IT AS IT'S HAPPENING. Throughout the whole show, the crowd just would not shut up and it was incredibly rude and disruptive. During a song people in front of us were debating which side of the stage is truly stage left. DURING A JAMES BLAKE SONG. I fucking hate people. Except James Blake, because he's awesome.
99.9% of the time I'm very happy and easygoing, but when someone is ruining my $25 show because they want to chit chat I don't get very happy.
And yes, he dropped some heavy heavy bass. I know it was going to be heavy, but damn it was heavy. I wish the Wonder Ballroom had a better sound system for deep low end like that because it got kind of muddy when it went down real low, but it still sounded fantastic and was all I could've hoped for.
