Barry Manilow. I would watch Barry Manilow once a weekend if I could; it is FREE (for me) afterall. What is the fucking big deal? I have seen everyone that you great gig-goers that are 'too good' to see a Hall-of-Famer like Manilow have seen (and then some).
On Deadmouse. It would be a significant step down for Goldenvoice to close out the mainstage after the real headliner with that hack. From Tiesto to Chemical Brothers to Deadmouse? What is next: Skrillex? Maybe that guy from Jersey Shore. Give me a fucking break. The difference between Tiesto and DM is that Tiesto can be seen for 100$+, DM .... you guess. Tiesto hardly plays festivals in the U.S.; DM can be seen at everything, everywhere. I have seen (and walked away) the hack at (Cypress Hill's) Smokeout. Smokeout! The guy sucks and would be a definite downgrade. GV pays Daft Punk whatever it is that they require to be paid and that is final.
Fucking Deadmouse. Ridiculous*.
E
*In regards to the mainstage closing; if you love the guy and are paying hard-earned money to see him spin live, all the power to you. No criticism of that. He is playing two ticketed nights at the Boulevard Pool; fly in for it. He has mini-residencies all the time here as well. See him for free.

Doesn't Tiesto have a residency going at the Hard Rock?
The tickets for Deadmau5's current tour are going for well over $100 and he is selling out. I just looked into going to see him in NY and they were about $125-$150 a piece I believe. Dude just headlined fucking Lollapalooza.
While I will agree his live show far exceeds his music, I don't think his music is all that bad. He has come a long way from when he first came on the scene as a total novelty. The two things that I really like about Deadmau is the tension he creates (his drops are AWESOME), and how many different electro styles he touches on.
While I love Tiesto (I have yet to see him live unfortunately), the dude has become a bit of a farce and has been mailing it in for years.
One last note, I don't know why you're getting flack for Barry Manilow. I would see the fuck out of that show.

It blows my mind that Deadma5s charges 100$+ per ticket and sells out. Blows my mind. For the Chelsea shows, the tickets are much less. I believe they were 50$ (no fees) when they were first announced as early birds; currently they are 75$ -- which I think is too much, and by the looks of tickets available for both nights in a very small venue a lot of other people think the same.

Postscript. I have seen Barry Manilow four times; have had tickets for six shows (he cancelled twice). I would see Wayne Newton; Tom Jones; Rod Stewart; and countless others. Barbara Streisand. Cher. Whitney Houston. Tina Turner. I would see Elton John again. So.

sexually stoked to go see eels tomorrow night at the Aladdin. That is one of my favorite venues and I am excited to see another eels show. The last one was just him and The Chet, a very talented multi-instrumentalist that rocks on the musical saw. It will be fun to see the full band.

So hey E why don't you explain to the class why your stupid ass got banned from the Coachella board? Just to amuse us until you get banned from this board too?

Deadmau5 isn't charging $100, scalpers are. His current tour is asking $50 per show. I bought my tickets for $72 flat so considering service fees I did pretty fucking well.
Calling deadmau5 a hack is so fucking laughable that I won't respond to a single other point you tried to make.

The mau5 or someone similar is headlining sasquatch next year. EDM the last 3 years has skyrocketed in popularity at Sasquatch, so I wouldn't be surprised if Sas has an EDM main stage act next year.
There was probably double the amount of people at major lazer than wilco on the last night

I really hope deadmau5 doesn't headline next year, I'd be much happier with someone like Justice I guess...

If Sasquatch starts replacing legitimate headliners with more crappy dance music I'm'a gonna find me another festival. Not that I'm worried about it -- if this dubstep fad hasn't burned itself out by Sasquatch 2012, it certainly will have by 2013.

Re: Tiesto mailing it in, I have to agree to some extent. I acknowledge that he contributed a lot to Trance music over the years, but I finally got around to seeing him in April when he was in Calgary. I had a lot of fun at his show, but when I compare it to the magic of the Chemical Brothers at Coachella that I saw on youtube from the same weekend, well... It came up VERY short.
For me, the main reason I saw Tiesto was to see him at least once (and probably only once, actually, since I won't go out of my way to see him again). I admit that his 3 hour set had the dancefloor packed non-stop, but this was only a 5000 person-ish venue (BMO center Halls A-D for you Calgary folks).
For me, The highlights were tracks of his I enjoyed already, as well as the random dubstep songs he dropped during his set. The bass was more intense than every other show I've seen in Calgary minus maybe 1 or 2 in my life, since he brought his own sound.
Still, Tiesto will be pass for me from now on. He'll probably do Ultra in Miami next year, so if you are dying to see him before his next album tour, that would be your best bet I suspect.

I definitely do want to see him at some point, but it's not a huge priority for me. I'm sure it'll happen eventually.
On a side note, how was the BMO center for a show? It seems like it would be pretty similar to the Big 4.
