Plus it was a total buzz kill to have the Pavement train wreck follow such an awe inspiring performance.

Built to Spill apparently changes their setlist every show too Remember when you could vote on their setlist for Capitol Hill Block Party? I went on every computer in my former place of employment and voted for "Big Dipper" until it was on the setlist. VICTORY! FUCKIN A! YOU GOT BIG DIPPER?! Shit. When I saw 'em in October they surprised me by playing my 2 favorite songs first: Distopian Dream Girl and Nowhere Nothin' Fuckup. That actually was unfortunate, since it was all downhill from there for me (unless they WERE to play big dipper, then that woulda been a badass surprise) I wasn't full of shit but i was rather shit faced. I forgot about the pavement fan boys. Sorry for the offense. S'okay brosef.

It's okay to think it was a train wreck if that's the way you feel. Personally I agree with you. Don't apologize just because the forum bullies are fanboys.

There's a dopey simplicity to 'Brushfire Fairytales' that I can still appreciate. Everything since has been really, really fucking bad. I don't care if he's a good person, that doesn't impact my opinion of his music AT ALL. Thats funny that we have completely opposite opinions of his albums. I really like the raw "simplicity" of Brushfire too, but the one thing that ruined the album for me is the drumming. One day I started tuning into the drums and realized that the drummer was playing the same damn beat in every song. Also the way he has his snare drum tuned and the volume of the snare drum is like having a drop of water drip on your forehead for a week straight. It is very high pitched and very loud compared to the volume of the rest of the instruments, vocals, and drums in general. It is painful if you really pay attention to it. So now every time I listen to the album I can't get the drum out of my head and it ruins the whole album. I really like his lyrics lately though. Like in "Monsoon". Some good lyrics.

Pavement sucks, and if you're still defending them after Sasquatch then you are an idiot. It's really as simple as that.

Lumpy's such a fucking bully I can barely stand it.
Pavement was at the very bottom of their game at Sasquatch, and in spite of the clear exhaustion, mistakes, utter lack of chemistry and everything else (flaws which are undeniable), they've written more awesome songs than almost any band on that stage that day combined, and for that alone I was deliriously happy during their set.

I don't think i'm a bully. I just don't like Pavement and their placement last year. To go from LCD to pavement to massive attack just plain didn't work for me but it did for my friends. So to each his own. The only thing that drives me up the wall is when people dont read previous posts and are like I think cold war kids could be there. Whatevs though. The Coachella fever is starting to make me antsy for our lineup.

You guys are delusional. Just imagine ANY band that you don't feel socially obligated to shit heaps of praise upon like you do with Pavement playing the set that Pavement played at Sasquatch. Imagine someone you don't regard as an 'indie deity' throwing that fucking hissy fit and dicking around and being an asshole for ten minutes instead of playing music after the extreme high of LCD's set. You'd be PISSED. Like the people at Sunday Squatch last year who didn't have their heads way on up in dey asses.

I'll admit that since Pavement made most of their music before I hit puberty, that I felt socially obligated to listen to a band that a lot of people seemed to like. But that's true of pretty much every band I've listened to that I didn't grow up with. (And before the pitchfork accusations fly, it was my older sister who introduced me to Pavement.)
And then I became absorbed in their albums. Wowie Zowie was on repeat in my car for like a year. And I think they made a bunch of really good songs, and seeing those songs live was...delightful. It wasn't a transcendent experience like LCD, but I loved it nonetheless.
