They don't play encores? Actually you are correct, I just looked it up. Thats not the point though. I could care less about an encore, but at least put on a show that is worthy of no encore. They play the same 12 damn songs every show and it never changes. I saw the Decemberists at Marymoor Park. They played he whole Hazards of Love album front to back without a break in between songs. They took a 15 minute break and came back out to play a bunch more of their older stuff. They played 25 songs in all. That was a show. They put on a show like a band should do. Tool is like a robot that plays the same 12 songs every damn show and people continue to worship them like they are glorious and godlike.

Don't get me wrong, I like their music, I just don't think they are worthy of all the reverence.

If you expect the same from a Tool show as you do from a Decemberists show, perhaps the problem lies with you.

Tool is like a robot that plays the same 12 songs every damn show and people continue to worship them like they are glorious and godlike. Thats what most big bands do with their setlists. Foo fighters were guilty of the same thing. Nearly every show on their last major tour (and the one before) had a setlist containing mainly "the hits" and the same couple of non "single" songs. If you are lucky, you will get maybe one or two (usually the new songs) differences between each show. Although, I can sort of see what your point is when a band like Tool doesn't release an album in five years, yet, they've been here three or four times in between now and then with the same list of songs. You'd think they would have time to rehearse deep within their catologue of only four albums. I'm with HG on this, you can't compare a smaller band to a "stadium" band. They still have the freedom to play whatever they want without being on a major label... And I didn't do my research on that. ;D

Actually, when I saw Tool last year they changed added two songs to their usual setlist!

You know, most bands will hit the road with a pretty well set group of songs and play roughly the same show wherever they go. This is my experience, with very few exceptions (Ween, R.E.M., TMBG before 2001 or so). It seems pretty standard, and pretty fair unless you're just some dude with a guitar who can play whatever pops into your head.

That last part was a clever Jack Johnson bash, wasn't it?

Thanks geno, yes, BTS too.
I don't have any particular problem with Jack Johnson. When I was younger, I worked at Barnes & Noble at a time when you could search, from any store computer, the ordering history of any customer at any B&N from the previous six years or so. Curious me (stalker me) noticed that one Jeff Mangum of Athens, GA had ordered 'Brushfire Fairytales'.
At that time, though, that album could only be ordered from CDBaby.com, a Portland business that sells music for small-time, usually unsigned artists. I got a copy of it and I'll admit to spending a good winter with it (on drugs). I was pretty blown away when all of a sudden he was on MTV, and then everywhere. There's a dopey simplicity to 'Brushfire Fairytales' that I can still appreciate.
Everything since has been really, really fucking bad. I don't care if he's a good person, that doesn't impact my opinion of his music AT ALL.

Built to Spill apparently changes their setlist every show too Remember when you could vote on their setlist for Capitol Hill Block Party? I went on every computer in my former place of employment and voted for "Big Dipper" until it was on the setlist. VICTORY!

I did everything I could to get them to play "preview" but I think they just ignored the fact that it was one of the highest vote getters

According to his twitter, Bon Iver just finished up recording so who knows. It seems like a lot of the bands that were there in 09 are finishing up records or ar touring again this year (ie fleet foxes, bi, girl talk, explosions, chromeo, etc).
Edit: fat fingers on an iPad don't work very well.

I could really see Bon Iver back again, as well as his drummer S. Carey doing a solo set.
I know what you mean though, with most artists releasing albums biannually you can sort of predict a trend with which artists are most likely to return every other year.

It's also hard because I want to see bon iver and fleet foxes again, but at the same time I dont want too much repeat. Chromeo's dj set was quite brilliant however I don't care much for their live show. On the flip side i realize others do and there are generally several other stages going so I just need to chill. Anyone else getting antsy for the Coachella lineup to drop? I know I sure am.

If the band is enjoyable enough i'll take some repeat, and that applies to both Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver.
Also what is with this coachella video thing, it's making things a little bit more exciting.

If they brought back LCD for a repeat performance I would be a happy happy camper.

The LCD show was one of my favorite of the weekend, I'd take them again for sure.

LCD are the shizz and would melt if they played before arcade fire or had a late night set. Hell they could headline for that matter. I thought they could have last year and I still stand by it.
