Is low ticket sales necessarily bad for us? Less people, less waiting lines and such no? But on the other hand the experience isn't the same I guess. As long as the festival still runs as planned, then hell yes it's a great thing for attendees. Shorter wait times and more manageable crowds always sounds nice when you're packed into a venue with tens of thousands of people. "..still runs as planned".... Think they'll cancel?

I feel like Sasquatch has some rainy day money in case stuff like this happens and they are in the works of getting another headliner or multiple upper mid tier acts. I mean I think we are still missing 10-15 acts no?
This is odd.

Nah it won't be cancelled. I doubt it even needs to sell out to still be profitable. Especially after re-adding the camping fee on top of the festival passes. Don't forget they did have to cancel Julysquatch in 2014 though, so depending on how long it takes to recover that lost money, the "rainy day" funds might be lower than the years leading up to that cancellation.

I've been having an extremely tough time rallying my crew to go this year! A mix of the lineup and the low Canadian dollar.

Even Wild Horse has camping left. Doesn't that sell out pretty fast as well? It is hit or miss. I don't recall it selling out far in advance for Sasquatch, but closer to. They also keep space open that's first come first serve.

I doubt a cancellation, but they better start thinking about ways to appease the masses if they want to keep this festival afloat in years to come. If they could keep a similar quality of lineup and not charge so damn much for everything I think they would be fine.

I'm also really curious to see what (if any) impact the future of Bumbershoot could potentially have on Sasquatch. I heard somewhere that they were going to announce their lineup earlier than usual this year, and now that they're in their second year under new ownership, I wonder if potential logistics and lineup improvements could pose a threat to Sasquatch. I tend to forget that most people that attend festivals are likely to only attend 1 or 2 a year, so would-be attendees having alternatives is something to take into consideration for any regional festival with competition.

All that said, I highly doubt Bumbershoot will ever pose much of a threat to anything outside of labor-day weekend in Seattle. Just adding thoughts to the conversation.

Bumbershoot last year kinda sucked besides the set from the Floozies. That shit rocked my world.
I'm not sure what to think yet about the AEG management of Bumbershoot... It just doesn't feel the same.

Man it was my favorite Bumbershoot ever! Even with the torrential downpour the first day.

Man it was my favorite Bumbershoot ever! Even with the torrential downpour the first day. I spent way too much time missing acts while in line for KeyArena in the pouring rain so that made me sad. I still had tons of fun tho because music festivals are music festivals.

Ah yes. I made a conscious decision to cut the Key almost completely out of my schedule this year. Made for an entirely better experience.

After talking with a bunch of my friends to try and expand our group that has already bought tickets, it's sounding like lots of Canadians are waiting until all of the Canadian festival lineups come out before they make their decision, knowing that there isn't as much of a time crunch to buy tickets as there was in 2013 or previous years. The only remaining lineups to come out now are the Vancouver area festivals so maybe once they come out, Live Nation will see a bit of a boost.

Yeah it's a weird bag this year. As has been said a million times the middle card is phenomenal but to me half of the headliners just genuinely feel like they should not be in that spot. Even in previous years when a headliner wasn't someone I was really keen on seeing I could at least say they deserved it. I know it's not going to happen but part of me is holding out for a repeat of last year, weekly small adds leading up to a big spot. Maybe some larger band isn't on the list because they're waiting to announce a tour?

It's hard to pick who's deserving of a headlining spot. A festival requires their headliners to drive ticket sales, put on a memorable performance, appeal to the locals, and draw from enough material to play for at least 90 minutes. A lot of the past headliners have had a weakness in one or more of these categories. 2009 was an unholy trinity of bro-rock, but tickets sold fast. 2011 had a couple smaller headliners, but they're adored in the PNW. Macklemore and the Mumfords in 2013 doesn't look great in hindsight, but they were huge at the time.
2016 - Disclosure, Major Lazer, The Cure, Florence & the Machine 2015 - Sleater-Kinney, Modest Mouse, Robert Plant, Kendrick Lamar 2014 - Outkast, The National, Queens of the Stone Age 2013 - Macklemore, Sigur Ros, Mumford & Sons, The Postal Service 2012 - Pretty Lights, Jack White, Bon Iver, Beck 2011 - Foo Fighters, Death Cab for Cutie, Modest Mouse, Wilco 2010 - My Morning Jacket, Massive Attack, Ween 2009 - Kings of Leon, Jane's Addiction, Ben Harper 2008 - R.E.M., The Cure, The Flaming Lips
Sasquatch usually gets one or two truly special headliners each year. I don't think you can say that about this year. The Cure come closest, but they've been here before and they're on a huge tour. You can't sell out a festival with those headliners when it costs about $500 per attendee.
Don't count on Major Lazer losing that headliner spot, though. Snacks has never done anything like that.

Ugh 2009 looks so much worse without NIN in the mix. I guess I always considered them co-headliners since they were touring together, but it really sucks that they didn't get to close out the festival that night.

Kings of Leon made me hate them just a little bit less that day. It actually sounded pretty good. I skipped both Jane`s and Ben Harper though (after seeing two snooze-inducing somgs that is).

Yeah, before they were added, Of Monsters and Men were the top billed act for Friday Night and then OMAM ended up playing the main stage before Sleater-Kinney.

Not sure if this has been brought up yet, but isn't bumbershoot ran by AEG now? LCD is playing a bunch of AEG festivals, I know it's a long shot but does anyone think there is a chance? I feel like the caliber of headliners last year was bigger than ever before.
