Well, I Dr. Garbanzoured this is as good of a subject as any. I Dr. Garbanzoured if anybody wants to get this thread started again we could start with an album on our best of 2013 list. Tera Melos - X’ed OutI have not listened to Tera Melos’ entire discography but I think it is safe to say that X’ed Out is the most cohesive, easy to digest work they have produced. If you are completely unfamiliar with this Sacramento based experimental rock outfit, it is comprised of 3 people: Nathan Latona (bass), John Clardy (drums) & Nick Reinhart (guitar/vocal). The first couple of listens to X’ed Out had me spaced out in the mad instrumentals they pummel you with. Later on, I was looking at the album art and realized the lyrics were included. I read along with the lyrics on the next listen and was surprised how much I enjoyed NIck’s lyrics as well. My Tera Melos love was increased 10x. The technical expertise is now accompanied by stories that I can follow. The track list is: Weird Circles New Chlorine Bite Snake Lake Sunburn *Here is John tracking drums for this track Melody Nine No Phase Tropic Lame *Live video of this track Slimed Until Lufthansa Surf Nazis X’ed Out And Tired There are airy, happy-go-lucky pop infused songs with catchy hooks (“Tropic Lame”, “Sunburn”). There are some tracks that give you a breather in a pretty and intriguing manner (“No Phase”, “Melody Nine”) and there are some heavy hitters (“Slimed”). There is a little bit of everything but it is safe to say this is some next level shit and I believe Tera Melos is ahead of their time. X’ed Out brought me on a journey through a world that is sun-soaked and full of psychedelic adventures. Instead of surfing on waves of water they are made of chocolate milk. Instead of having 5 fingers you have 4. Nathan (bass) states that it is like this: "It's like visiting a friend who lives on the 14th floor of a building with no elevator, yet he has a grand piano in his apartment," explains bassist Nathan Latona. "How did he get it there? Was it carried up 14 flights of stairs, assembled on site or what? This record is the piano in the apartment with no elevator. We wanted to do all of the tricky stuff in a way that doesn't seem noticeable." Fucking awesome. I love this album! EDIT: I forgot to add the bandcamp link. teramelos.bandcamp.com/album/xed-out

Bosnian Rainbows - s/tI have been thinking a lot about this album over the last couple of weeks. Either this album or ...Like Clockwork are my favorites of the year so far. I just wanted to post something more about it on this board in case I can sway any of you to check out their upcoming shows. It isn’t a secret that I love The Mars Volta. Other than having Omar Rodriguez Lopez involved with Bosnian Rainbows they are nothing like TMV. I just don’t want any of you that can’t stand TMV to not give this album a chance because Omar is involved with it. Omar was a dictator of a composer for TMV and that is ultimately what drove them apart. He would right the music and others would perform what he told them to. In Bosnian Rainbows they have a democratic approach to writing music (as do most bands I assume). He takes care of the guitar, Deantoni Parks plays drums (and keyboards at the same time at certain points), Nicci Kasper on synths and Terri Gender Bender on vocals. Per their bio on their label page, they came to be while touring Europe together for Octopus Kool Aid. While rehearsing they naturally worked well together and honed their skills in creating new music in the live setting. Each member contributes equally to the creation of their music. Their debut album has 11 tracks and clocks in at just under 50 minutes. Terri is one of the most captivating lead woman/man I have ever seen. Appearance shouldn’t matter but she is straight up gorgeous. Her vocals are incredible and the lyrics are beautifully disturbing (Just listen to “Dig Right In Me”). The gaze she puts on a live audience actually permeates through the recorded material as well. Official video for "Turtle Neck” You can feel how much fun these four people are having together. The music isn’t the long progressive jams that I associate Omar with. They are structured songs that get right to the point. It seems like the kind of jams Blondie might have if that band came to be nowadays. Just because they are structured and to the point doesn’t mean they don’t leave space to get psychedelic though. Plenty of room for your mind to wander if that is what you are after. Before I started rambling on about this I thought it was going to be a coherent and decisive piece that would make you all check it out. It turns out that I don’t necessarily role that way but oh well. Hope you check it out anyways. You can stream the entire album over here bosnianrainbows.bandcamp.com/album/bosnian-rainbows-2The upcoming shows in our neck of the woods are: Sep 13 Festival Park Victoria, BC Sep 14 Biltmore Cabaret Vancouver, BC Sep 15 Rifflandia Music Festival Victoria, BC Sep 17 The Crocodile Seattle, WA Sep 18 Dante's Portland, OR

I feel like that September 13 and 15th Victoria date are actually both Rifflandia. Where'd you get the touring information?

Is anybody interested in trying to start this again? Fig and Kymess got me thinking that it should probably happen. If so, do you have any themes we should go off of or just whatever you want to write about? Anybody want first week?

I wasn't around when this was going on before, but it seems like a cool idea if we can keep it going.

I would like to play too! Any problem with reviewing oldies? Reading through the thread got me thinking about music that I listened to as a pup.

I think that would be fun to do albums that you listened to while you were younger as a theme!

Haha! I don't know. I am down for whatever. I guess the festival is fast approaching so we could start a round of Sasquatch bands first.

I will listen to Poison if you will listen to Yes. Or maybe we should ban 80's hair bands from the thread...

Courtney Barnett - The Double EP: A Sea Of Split Peascourtneybarnett.bandcamp.com/album/the-double-ep-a-sea-of-split-peasI figured I would get one of these posted to attempt to get the ball rolling. I decided to do an album from a Sasquatch 2015 artist. Courtney Barnett is not only my number one must see on the 2015 lineup but she was one of my most anticipated acts from the Julysquatch that never happened. Her new album is really good and I am still digesting it. Before that was the Double EP: A Sea Of Split Peas. It has ten songs spanning over 46 minutes. Every one of these songs is great. Courtney is from Melbourne and her style of witty song writing and adorably lazy singing are made 10X more awesome with her accent. If anyone has seen me post on this board they know how much I love Helms Alee. There is no way in hell I would miss this Courtney Barnett set...even for Helms Alee. The Double EP has some standout tracks despite them all being excellent. "Avant Gardner" hits home. While I was dealing with significant anxiety I felt this song was personal due to her having so much trouble breathing in...although I am a little better with smoking bongs than she is. "Anonymous Club" makes me feel all romantic. My wife and I don't get sexy with it or anything but it is one that makes us think of each other. It is easy to focus on the vocals and songwriting when it comes to Courtney Barnett but give her guitar skills respect, too. She can shred with the best of them. I finally found a reasonably priced copy of this album on Discogs and can't wait to add it to my vinyl collection. We had an emergency c-section on 3/20/15 and are lucky enough to welcome our daughter to the world without any complications despite being nearly a month premature. I have never been good at arts/crafts or keeping track of mementos. The "Baby Book" that we are supposed to be starting for our little girl has blank pages you are supposed to put things like first step, first word blah blah blah. I decided to include the first albums that she listened to and the very first one was Courtney Barnett - The Double EP: A Sea Of Split Peas. I love this album so much and if you haven't given it a chance you need to take it for a spin.

The Australian accent and the sloppy left-handed finger strumming (I've never seen her use a pick in any of the live videos I've been obsessing over), and just her general no fucks given attitude do everything for me. Congrats on the daughter thing too.

Way to go Badchoices!!! Kids are great. I have two myself. So I'm old school and when we ran this initially we did up a list of who was going to go when. Are we now just jumping in randomly at the beginning of the week with an album?
