Oh shit, I didn't realize it was at the Triple Door. I vowed never to go there again. I'm in a pickle here.

Some call it Math-Rock, Post-Rock, Noise-Rock, and/or Experimental. I call it, plain and simply, beautiful. You can call it whatever you want once you give it a spin. The band is Dilute. The brain child of a Fremont, CA native by the name of Marty Anderson, Dilute is one of those bands that has grown in popularity (among what is probably still a small crowd) following their demise. The album is LiveThis set was recorded live from S.F.'s Bottom of the Hill and released as a split with Hella in 2003. The album is composed of five tracks two of which are located on previously recorded studio efforts (Track 1: Apple and Track 2: Alphabet both appear on the bands highly acclaimed sophomore album "Grape Blueprints Pour Olive Spinach Grape" which I highly, highly, recommend.) Here's the grooveshark link: grooveshark.com/#!/playlist/Dilute/75759638 Enjoy, or don't, I'm just fulfilling an obligation that I agreed to.

Pavement Sasquatch sets: At least they aren't Mars Volta Sasquatch sets.
Guess I should listen to both of these soon, so I actually have the right to post mine next week.

You're probably the only person in the world who liked both of those sets.

You're probably the only person in the world who liked both of those sets. I liked them both. You guys who thought the Mars Volta sucked are especially nuts. That's what happens when a bunch of stoners and hippies are waiting to see a U.F.O., but are subjected to rockers freaking the fuck out. Then they're all like, "whaaa?"

Pssh. Noise-based music is one of my primary interests. I've even listened to the Mars Volta, even though I hated them. Between that Storm Thorgerson album art and Pitchfork -- back when I susceptible to Pitchfork's wiles -- I was talked into spending $18.99 on a copy of De-Loused in the Comatorium at Best Buy. I have rarely been so regretful of a purchase.
I may be a stoner, but I'm not a hippie -- as far as I'm concerned, there was no artistic merit to that set whatsoever.

Pssh. Noise-based music is one of my primary interests. The experimental noise-based music you listen to isn't remotely close the progressive noise the Mars Volta creates. It's like saying, "I like apples, so my opinion of oranges is valid." I've even listened to the Mars Volta, even though I hated them. Between that Storm Thorgerson album art and Pitchfork -- back when I susceptible to Pitchfork's wiles -- I was talked into spending $18.99 on a copy of De-Loused in the Comatorium at Best Buy. I have rarely been so regretful of a purchase. So you hated a show by a band you hate. What were you expecting?

The 'progressive' noise that the Mars Volta make is, to me, similar to acts like Hank III or Fucked Up: they are the avatars of entire sub-genres of music that are only set apart from every other equally shitty act in their respective sub-genres because they have been sanctioned by Ryan Schreiber.
Contemporary country is for assholes, punk is dead and only meth heads can understand what passes for progressive rock after 2001.

I'm not sure exactly where you are going with the Pitchfork reference. Truth be told, I was already thinking about a comeback involving you and Pitchfork, since I know you're a loyal reader, and they HATE HATE HATE the Mars Volta. Whenever they review a Mars Volta album, they basically roll a dice, and divide that number by two.

Loyal reader? Hardly. I check in for info on tours and new releases, but I haven't read a review in ages.
