Can someone explain how these ATP festivals work? I always thought it was just one fest but apparently not?

Well, correct me if I'm wrong (this is really just from gathering a series of context clues, I'm no ATP scholar).
ATP festivals are definitely all over the place. Almost all of them have at least one artist curate each festival (sometimes not necessarily musicians, i.e. Matt Groening). The main one is in England, but there's a lot in other places in Europe as well as the States (a bunch seem to be in New York lately). The one I always here about is in Kutsher's Country Club in the Catskills of New York, which is cool because it's like this old kinda vacation country club location usually for the rich peoples that live in the city. I believe with tickets you have to actually by a room at said Country Club, which I also love. And the artists don't hideaway and are kinda forced to hangout with the crowd.
And if I remember correctly, the place in England they often do it is a Resort. I remember people on the Stephen Malkmus board talking about going down water slides with the members of Pavement at the Pavement curated ATP.
Again, I might be wrong on some of this, so feel free to correct me if need be.

Bumbershoot pre-order tickets went on sale a few minutes ago. Just picked me up two pairs. For those interested who aren't part of the Bumberclub, the pre-sale code is "WHYWAIT?" and you can purchase tickets by following this link: bumbershoot.strangertickets.com/I haven't been in years. Hopefully they get a few good acts this year! Enjoy!

That's definitely not a festival I feel comfortable making blind ticket purchases. I still hope to attend in the event of a good lineup though.

At $30 a day I don't feel too bad about the blind investment. I'll only have to see 1-2 decent acts to make it worth while. I used to attend the whole weekend every year when I was younger so there's a bit of nostalgia in it for me too. Here's hoping I can get the weekend off!

I just bought 2 3 day passes. I'll probably leave on Monday some time, but at $75 for a 3 day pass I don't feel like I'm going to lose too much money on the deal. I am a little concerned about the whole first come first serve seating. I'm going to be all over that shit. I am hearing allot of complaints about the Key Arena being the Main Stage. Never been there. I am happy to here they are adding an electronic music stage.

Im hoping the lineup is decent. I havent been in years but I think this is the year! Im kinda bummed that memorial stadium is going to be no more. I have some pretty great memories of that place. I hope they go through with the Ampitheater idea.

I almost went last year just to see Bob Dylan, and kinda wanted to see Weezer.

Also, that's pretty weird about Key Arena being used as the main stage. I guess they're desperate to use that place for SOMETHING. At least it's right inside the Seattle Center so the location is still prime.

They used to use Key Arena as the End sponsored stage.

Ah ok. I had no idea they used it for Bumbershoot at all.

Then I think the last couple of years they had roller derby exhibitions there.

Roller derby, awesome!
Yeah, they've used the Key Arena (and the Coliseum before that) as well as Memorial Stadium for as long as I can remember. Any idea why they're cutting out the Stadium this year? Key Arena is sooo much smaller, it seems like a huge mistake. I know the stadium is owned by the Seattle School District, maybe that has something to do with it.

Seattle weekly and The Stranger's blogs both posted stuff about it. Basically attendence is way down so they need to reposition it as a 25-30k festival rather than the 40-50k they used to get. The coliseum is really expensive and holds about 22k people while key arena holds 14k. They claim that most shows at the coliseum were only getting about 15k people so this won't disenfranchise that many people overall. They're also repositioning it so that they won't be getting headliners that are as big. On one hand this is a bummer because they won't get the Bob Dylans and Kanye Wests of the world but on the other hand they also won't be getting the Black Eyed Peas and Katy Perry's of the world. I think it's actually a smart move overall.
The part that excites me most is that Decibal festival is now curating the Sky Church stage. That should lead to some really cool artists playing in one of the coolest rooms in Seattle
