Listenin' to this new Akron/Familiy album. I'm likin' it so far. Any of you people seen them live, since they're Portlanders? Saw 'em last September and it was one of those shows I could file under "religious experience" I've seen them a few times now and they always put on a great show. They're going on tour in like a month and I'm planning on catching them again. The new album is probably my favorite of theirs since the first self-titled one fun story: I dragged a bunch of friends to see them in olympia back in 2006 after only having heard their self titled album. I told everyone it'll be a laid back show that will be really quiet. They then opened with this: no one really cared though cause the show was amazing By the way, I posted the Spiritualized album, "Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space," today hoping someone would chime in. It is easily my top ten albums of all time. mine too, although I've never really gotten into many of their other albums. The only other one I listen to with much regularity is songs in A+E Hehe, the exact opposite of a quiet, laid-back song. I'm pretty sure they played that when I saw them too. I saw 'em as part of this festival at Raleigh where the headliners play at the beginning of the night at City Plaza, then afterwards a billion other bands play at 9 other venues around downtown. I hadn't known much of them at the time, but I hung around the venue they were playing at, and they had a really cool late night set from 1:30-3. They were supposed to stop at 2, but "no one really cared though cause the show was amazing" I think this newest album is probably most reminiscent of the sound they had live too. Most likely a lot of these songs were played when I saw them too since I'm sure they were somewhere around the recording process at the time.

And man, you got me excited about that tour, but the closest they're coming to the southeast is Pennsylvania.

I also picked up The Bug "Catch a Fire/Skeng (autechre remix)" yesterday. "Catch a Fire" is just plain and simple ear candy. There is a definite expiration date on it, but fuck is it ever good while it lasts. www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-sSqMsckgM

The Schnitzlbank song is pretty great too, "Yah that fits in Wako's head!"

Yes, Friendly. Thanks! That was a revisit to my childhood mornings before school.
Anyone remember the spin-off called Historia?

Don't forget Tiny Toons, that was gold. I think Gramma has some stuff somewhere on here regarding all the TMBG stuff on the show.

I'm ashamed to admit this, but I have never listened to The Decemberists before today. On my way to work one of the local radio stations was playing a song, and it was pretty solid, so I decided to go ahead and see what all the fuss is about. I'm currently about 1/2 way through The Crane Wife, and attempting to literally kick myself, because figuratively kicking myself isn't getting the job done.
So I'm pretty sure the rest of the day will consist of me listening to their discography.

I'd be afraid to admit that, too Alex! However, props for finally checking them out. I love them and Colin Meloy's voice is unlike anyone's Ive ever heard. They've got some good eclectic stuff, but I can not speak for their live performances because I've never seen them (Keeping my fingers crossed for this year!) Check out the songs: 16 Military Wives Sons & Daughters Red Right Ankle Los Angeles, I'm Yours Dear Avery and my personal fave: The Rake's Song. That song is so effed up Man, there's so many good songs that aren't even included on there! Get crackin'

I'm just going to line it up chronologically and take the journey this afternoon. Grooveshark is a wonderful website that way.

Good thinkin'.
The Decemberists won't disappoint. Did you hear "Down by the Water" or "This is why we Fight" on the radio station?
This is what I love most about fests because you start learning about such good music.

Yeah, that's a good one, for sure.
For the record, with this current album, they're a little more country-esque, but that's a new venture. Don't expect their older collection to sound like that

Am I the only one here that loves the fuck out of The Apology Song? We might've discussed this before, but I wanted to be sure.

I DID forget those! I was going through my limited library on my iPhone this afternoon when I put those songs up--I must not have Castaways in my Decemberists category on my phone. I certainly have it on my computer. A thousand apologizes, because Odalisque and I Don't Mind are two of my favorites, too! In summary, Alex--from my suggestions and HG's, you'd be better off listening to everything! A-Z.
