Yes, Friendly. Thanks! That was a revisit to my childhood mornings before school. Anyone remember the spin-off called Historia? Memories of watching this before school and then telling my mom this when I went to hop on the bus: Haha!! YES! I remember quoting that just as much as I quoted Plucky Duck saying, "Water go down the hoooolee"

In summary, Alex--from my suggestions and HG's, you'd be better off listening to everything! A-Z. Nah, you can pretty much call it in after 'Her Majesty...'. 'Picaresque' is a dog turd, 'Crane Wife' is a steaming dog turd, and 'Hazards of Love' is the dog that laid 'em. 'King is Dead' is nice, though.

That song is MY song. I left it off for selfish reasons.

I cheated and listened to The Crane Wife out of order already, but I thought it was pretty good. Maybe not in the context of the entire discography, but as an introduction to the band I enjoyed it.

The first thing I listened to was The Tain, and that pretty much sold me, and is still to this day my favorite decemberists song.

"ellelator go up. ellelator stop." God yes, all this nostalgia is filling my heart with joy. "Hey, lady!" My only problem with that video is the fact that the cops just wiggle and then the ropes just magically come undone.

Don't worry about HG's hatred of it, it's great. Pretty much all of their albums with the exception of Hazards are awesome but I would probably agree with HG that Castaways is their best

HG was there on the ground floor with the Decemberists. HG has a right, as a fan, to feel betrayed by the stupid Gay Pirate shit.

but isn't Her Majesty the most "gay pirate" like of their albums?

perhaps the decemberists' music has changed/evolved/what-have-you over the years... but i have enjoyed their progression every step of the way. and with The King is Dead i think they've made one of their finest albums to date.
