Grizzly Bear just said on Facebook that they have a new album coming out in 2012. great news! looks like they are headlining a festival in the UK in august 2012 (not that that gives me much hope). they've played sasquatch twice before, last in '09 very early on the mainstage, it would be amazing to see them later in the day.

Simple: Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Keys, The Shins, Phoenix /thread I don't think The Shins are a headliner. I guess maybe if their new album is full of epic arena rock jams. they seem more like second-tier to me. maybe third, has anyone seen them with their new lineup?

ooh! I like rampant speculation! RATM for Friday headliner. You are confusing this with The Wish List thread. Unless there is some sort of speculatin' you got for us? um.... I thought this was for rampant speculation? but if you need some justification, they are playing a big thing July 30th in LA. [EDIT - oops, that was last year, make that past tense] and they played some dates in South America in October. and Tom Morello recently said something along the lines of "if we want to do a thing, we'll do a thing." plus it fits in the (albeit new) tradition of Loud Friday.

So, did anyone else notice a week or two back when the Neptune announced an M83 show in April that supposedly went on sale that friday but never materialized? you know, the Neptune that is owned by STG who employ a certain Adam Zacks... I was at the Neumos show where they completely killed, thinking to myself how amazing it would be if this were happening on the mainstage at the gorge. looks like I may get my wish!
In other news, Justice just announced a tour that puts them at the Paramount in April, so no justice (just us).
also with the unexpected return of friday I might be forced to backtrack on my naysaying and admit that a Friday night Radiohead show (playing a KOL-heavy set) might actually be a possibility. I would still rather see them on their own at the gorge, however unlikely, in no small part because I don't want the entire Sasquatch weekend to pale in comparison with the opening night.
totally baseless sub/headliner prediction time: Friday-- Red Hot Chili Peppers
Saturday-- Bon Iver Florence and the Machine Black Keys (Girl Talk late-night)
Sunday-- Fleet Foxes The Roots Weezer (Animal Collective late-night)
Monday-- M83 Amon Tobin (ISAM)
thoughts?

I was seriously disappointed with Radiohead's SNL performance, but their Colbert Report show was much better (and longer!).
nonetheless, I will see them when they come back. I hope it is at the gorge, and I hope it is not at Sasquatch! (sorry bros)

bands I want to play: Fleet Foxes Bon Iver Sufjan Stevens Elbow War on Drugs Cults Astronautalis Gold Leaves Mister Heavenly (or Man Man... or I guess both) Tune-Yards St Vincent Crocodiles Givers (bring 'em back!) M83 Animal Collective (late-night) SOME HIP HOP FOR GOD'S SAKE
bands I do not want to play: Black Keys Coldplay (shudder) Mumford and Sons
bands that are too big to play Sasquatch and could sell out the gorge on their own so why are you even bothering to hope?: Radiohead Pearl Jam Tool
I would LOVE to see an EDM act headline the last day... I was actually hoping that would happen in 2011. and although it would seriously bum me out to see Coldplay or someone like that in a headlining slot, truth is by the time the headliner rolls around it gets seriously cold and I'm usually exhausted. more important to me is the sub- or sub-sub-headliner slot (see: LCD Soundsystem 2010).

Crudo defintely killed it that year - the blood-splattered aprons were a classy touch - but best non-headliner? I wouldn't go that far. someone should start a best non-mainstage show thread. my vote would be Clap Your Hands Say Yeah in '06. back when the second stage was where the third stage is now (or specifically, where the VIP section for the third stage is) at sunset with Alec's hair catching the glow and looking like it was on fire, playing Satan Says Dance before anyone had ever heard it. so dope.

Okay, I did a search and couldn't find anything about him, so new topic... I'm (optimistically) hoping that Justin will join Gayngs at Squatch and maybe get added in as a solo act replacement? What do we figure the odds on this are? Am I naive to consider it? I was blown away by the Bon Iver set in '09. Didn't think his music would translate to the fest atmosphere but ended up being a highlight. So... I have my fingers crossed. Justin does show up at the end of the Coachella set, so it is possible he will be there. Still wouldn't hold out too much hope for a Bon Iver add. Bon Iver will play a Mariachi set on Friday.

I know they won't do it but they really should be a late night set. Their music sounds kind of ridiculous in the daylight word. I definitely wish Sasquatch would take the late night sets in that direction more than the thumping dance party. that said, Ratatat should be pretty sweet. a 7pm slot on the Bigfoot stage for Gayngs would be perfect. sun would be setting by the end. City and Colour has a higher billing and will probably play then, but maybe they'll get pushed earlier because their music doesn't sound ridiculous in the daylight. either way Gayngs has worked their way onto my can't-miss list too.

for those of you keeping score, Black Joe Lewis took S Carey's slot on the Yeti stage, and S Carey is now on the Bigfoot stage in between the Moondoggies and Sam Roberts band.
anybody seen S Carey perform before?

we're still a month away, maybe this last few weeks has been the quiet before the storm, and maybe sneaking in a new stage in the dark of the night is priming us diehards for some actual additions on friday... I will stay optimistic and hope so. I'm with Pea, dance tent would be siiiiick! I have to think they wouldn't open up the Yeti stage just so The Bronx can get their mariachi on. something is going to happen there. (please!) oh and Bon Iver... it's good to have dreams. I caught the last couple songs of their set a few years back ('09?) and they were TEARING IT UP and then of course they went on hiatus and haven't toured since. but as much as I would love to see them, I'm not holding my breath

so.... you guys think there will be any more adds? it's starting to look like this is it. last year they had 8 bands on the Yeti on Sunday, so far only 7 announced this year. also it seems like Friday could get another act on the Bigfoot. otherwise it's a pretty full schedule. can't wait for the set times!!! It'd be nice if there were a couple more additions - but i highly doubt it'll happen. ** anyone recall the actual date they released the Set times last year?** it was when we got the iPhone app. ---May 6th?--- May 6th is correct. consequenceofsound.net/2010/05/sasquatch-2010-drops-day-by-day-schedule/

also, if you haven't checked it out the live coachella stream (http://www.youtube.com/coachella) is pretty awesome, there's some squatch bands broadcasting live today (DFA 1979, Best Coast, Foster the People, Ratatat, Chromeo) and some good stuff from !!! and Gayngs (and Flogging Molly - doesn't do much for me, but maybe if it's your thing...) in the archives already.

but all those mellow vibes and tropicalia rhythms are going to make for some weird, space lounge-y kind of atmosphere at the Gorge. .
My thoughts exactly. This will be all be delightfully absurd in Gorge context.
I'm not saying Pink Martini won't be delightfully absurd, but I am questioning their billing, especially when you consider Wolf Parade have said this will be one of their last shows ever, and could sell out the same venues that Cold War Kids (likely playing that 5:30 slot on Sunday) would in this area, I think Wolf Parade should have the higher billing, and I hope they get the later timeslot in the day. Pink Martini can be delightfully absurd in the afternoon, I'm totally cool with that.

Wye Oak is listed higher than J Mascis on the schedule page, so I think swapping those two might be in order (it wasn't always that way, but I think it changed a few weeks ago).
which is fine by me if WO gives me something to do during Pink Martini, but the prediction game can be tricky and I am kinda hoping there are a few surprises when the actual schedule comes out... like maybe Wolf Parade getting a decent slot/amount of time to play.
UPDATE: looks like they switched J Mascis and Wye Oak again... in other news, I should stop obsessing over this shit.

I would imagine that they play atleast one song from Embryonic true... upon reflection perhaps I would replace The W.A.N.D. in my prediction with Silver Trembling Hands or Convinced of the Hex. although I would prefer See The Leaves (haven't seen that one live yet) but if they were headlining Monday they probably could have played two full sets and thrown in a lot of Embryonic, which I would be so down for. instead I'll just have to put up with having my face melted by Nels Cline :E
