Anyone else as excited as I am to see these guys at the gorge. I love this band, seen 'em tons and will continue to catch them live any chance I can. New album coming out in 2 weeks, new live stuff, can't wait. Patterson Hood is so cool, what's the best story you've heard him tell on stage.
Any one see him in 2008 at a certain defense mechainsm inticing festival that ryhmes with Donnarro when he told the story about Chester to introduce 18 wheeels? I've heard him tell it before, but man that was great, goosebumbs every where "You think I'm Making this shit up? Every Goddamn word is true!!!!!"

Excited to see these guys each and everytime!!!! Interstateeight (and others) Check out The Live at the 40 watt DVD (see this before Austin City Limits, that one is a little more tame) and as far as albums go for just getting started do 1)Dirty South 2)Decoration Day 3)Southerm Rock Opera 4)Brighter than Creation's Dark
But be aware that Jason Isbell is no longer with the band so his songs are not really done live. Still Patterson and Coley are amazing!

Thanks for the tips, friendly. Already been listening to Decoration Day and Brighter than Creation's Dark. I'll look into Dirty South and Southern Rock Opera.

Putting People on the Moon from Dirty South is intense. Patterson is the southern Dylan (crucify me if ya want). But the guy is a seriouse poet and so connected to the South and its social and economic issues. Seriouse respect for this dude!

Can't wait - never seen them. I saw Patterson solo at Bonnaroo last year, but missed the full DBT w/ Booker T set

The "social and economic issues" of the South are "latent racism" and "we're broke because we lost a war and have suffered through GENERATIONS of stupidity, making our education weak and regressive, leading directly to an inferior workforce." The South: Let 'em secede, I say.

I started with The Dirty South. Really all it took was one listen to the first track to get me hooked. I immediately listened to it a second time after it was over, and I've done that with less than ten albums ever.

Totally was there for the "Chester" story! Patterson was the most fun lovin' drunk in the world that afternoon. "Ronnie and Neil" was also a highlight in such a wide open space.

Sorry to deviate, but regardless of weather the lineup is good or bad, the organizers sure did an amazing job of ensuring the fest would be gigantic this year. I know so many people who usually do Bonnaroo that are doing Sasquatch this year due to MMJ, MA, and Ween (including myself and a bunch of friends), also the fact that each of these bands have hardcore bases that will travel to see them in spots they don't normally get (ie-MA's only fest so far, MMJ as headliner and Ween as a headliner!!!!). Then they got Pavement which seems to be more so the Godfathers of the typical bands that do Sasquatch, surely to bring in all the kids who have got into them after their breakup. No wonder the thing is selling out, really has huge appeal to fans who WILL be there to see those artists.

Yup, while 'roo has been the usual destination and has a decent lineup this year, MA, MMJ, Ween and DBT's have brought me and friends to Sasquatch this year. Really looking forward to it!

Afternoon set in 08 was sublime:)
Revue of an 08 Memphis gig
"And there it was, that distinctive spine-tingling sensation that only seems to strike when you’re in the presence of great live music or perhaps the Holy Spirit at church, for I knew what we were in store for – the great “Eighteen Wheels of Love” and its story of Hood’s mama falling in love with Chester while working at R&D trucking and their subsequent wedding in Dollywood – a story so incredibly white trash that you can’t even make up, no matter how hard you try. But, this time there was a new part to the tale and you could see that this addition wasn’t an easy thing to talk about in Hood’s eyes, even through the whiskey-influenced glaze, and he soon let us in on recent developments in the lives of mama and Chester. You see, Chester had congestive heart failure and ended up in hospice care with little chance of survival. Despite his sufferings and grim prognosis, at some point he whispered a question to the hospice nurse, sent to make him as comfortable as possible while he passed from this world, “When can I drive again?” Soon, though, something happened, something near-miraculous and, somehow, someway, Chester recovered. Today, Hood then told us, Chester and his mama were heading to California to see some grandkids in his beloved truck, riding off into the sunset like in some old movie. Of course, those words are just the precursor to the actual song, which Hood claims to have written the couple when they got married and he was flat broke and which only consists of a few stanzas repeated over and over “Mama ran off with a trucker, Peterbilt, Peterbilt,” “They got married in Dollywood,” and “Eighteen wheels of love.” But, despite its simplicity, when coupled with the actual story it is actually a beautiful, if somewhat trashy love story."

Hope we get some of this again. Saw both shows in Seattle, was absolutely amazing - DBT's opened the first night then Hold Steady opened for DBT's the next, then they all got on stage together!!! Pure fun.

Saw DBT open for Robert Randpolph and the Black Crowes. Phenomenal set and i can't wait to see them again. I bought the Dirty South at the show but the Southern Rock opera clinched it for me... Decoration Day is my favorite overall album but everything they do is gold. I just hope the set isn't too short. Them's the risks with festivals.

Thanks, and yes Bruce is the greatest human ever to live. Saw him three times last year and at 60 he still kills a live show better than anyone. Patterson does remind me of him.
