Last year's Pemberton was an overall success. I event met Duke Silver.
Who all from the Boards that I don't already know from Facebook will be going? Anyone interested in Going. Discuss here.

Doubtful, but who knows... baby Pemberton will be too young to attend though.

I have my ticket. My friend thinks ACDC is FOR SURE going to play. If that happens, during their set I will be getting blackout wasted back at camp.

Considering attending. Passport is current. Camping gear will be warmed up from Sasquatch. Are there party animals north of the border, eh?

Well, I would have to find a pack to fit in with since it is doubtful the muttwife would want to camp out for three fun filled days. What do they call a group of party animals up there in the north lands?

Last year it wasn't till April, I'm assuming they'll be faster this year but no date has been given yet.

I have the time off for work. Definitely planning on going. Will probably jump on pre-sale when they go on sale again.

For the lineup release date I've heard everything from January (not happening obviously) to the same time as last year. If I had to bet I'd put my money on late February or early March.
No idea who's going to be playing this year.

I feel like they're going to just spring it on us with no warning.

Last year they had like a 12 day countdown or something. Then one of the headliners dropped out and they didnt release the lineup for another couple weeks. I have faith in the organizers though. Stoked to go back to Pemberton. It's almost as pretty as the Gorge.

Stoked to go back to Pemberton. It's almost as pretty as the Gorge. The scenery is amazing. I'm lucky to have spent much of my life in the BC Rockies but I met a friend from California there who had never seen them before and he was in awe of the backdrop. Gorge still wins for me but having fucking majestic mountains in the background is really something.

I'm lucky enough to have the funds and transportation to make it to both Sasquatch and Pemberton this year. As long as the lineup's good I'll be there.

I've decided it's an off year for fests in general, and they may have peaked for the foreseeable future.
Every year more pop up, and most existing ones expand / get more expensive. They've become the thing to do gradually over the years. It's gotten to the point where most of the established ones can sell out before there is a lineup.
Sadly it just isn't worth it for festivals to drop cash on established and exclusive acts, especially ones with somewhat niche appeal. Bands I have seen at fests in the last couple years that certainly didn't draw enough crowd to make the appearance fee worth it:
Blur (~5000 people) Stone Roses (~2000 people) Elbow (~1500 people) Pet Shop Boys (~1500 people) Motorhead (~1500 people) Primus (~2000 people) Mogwai (~1000 people at both Sasquatch and Coachella) The Replacements (~3000 people) Neutral Milk Hotel (~2500 people) New Order (~2000 people)
I loved all of these shows, but I'm sure the organizers looked at the crowds and thought "Yeah, this was not worth the effort when a flavour of the month draws twice as many people"
I've gone to Coachella for the music primarily as it's always had some fantastic bands I never thought I would see. Most of those shows had minimal crowds while DJ Untz Untz had 20K people packed into the Sahara.
Couple that with the fact that almost every legendary act has had money thrown at the for years by big budget festivals. Anything mind blowing either isn't biting or has already made the circuit before.
It's a combination of general festival crowd's musical tastes moving away from mine and the fact that people just want to attend for the party.
I'm still almost certainly going to Pemberton this year because it's close, priced in Canadian dollars and was just a fantastic time last year, but I'm not hoping for any sort of amazing lineup from any festivals for the rest of the year.
I for one will be taking a hard look at smaller, more specific festivals next year (Austin Psych Fest for one) because the ones that try to appeal to everyone just haven't been doing it for me this year.

Smaller, regional festivals with camping are the way to go now. Unfortunately, they are by and large primarily electronic music with little being offered for other genres.
