In 2008 I used www.AlterNetRides.com and Craigslist to organize a big rideshare from Seattle. When I flew into Seattle that week I picked up the biggest rental possible (a Ford Expedition) and on Saturday morning, had complete strangers meet me outside my hotel The Red Lion on 5th and Pike. STRANGELY ENOUGH, I made great friends in the process. 2 Canadians, 2 Aussies, and one Alaskan. The 7 us (including my girlfriend) had a great ride with great conversation. Mind you, we'd never met before and in some cases, hadn't even spoken on the phone. Would they be crazy? Would it become a massive disaster? No one knew. But it was grand. I snuck them into Premiere Camping with me, we shared food, each morning we'd update the group on the previous day's craziness. The ride back to Seattle was incredible, lots of laughing and recounting top musical moments, we spent some time at Pike's Place, and almost a year later, we still talk. No money was expected for petro but as we were packing up in the campground, money was offered. That's Sasquatch love. So yes, it's possible you won't make lifelong friends but I think the odds are in your favour. Go with an open mind and see what happens. ;D
