So where exactly are you allowed to set up camp if you are say one of the first to arrive on Thursday. I'm assuming the very back and would also believe that this would optimize party time including being the last ones that have to shut off their music.

I wondered if I'd ever be able to use that image again.

You do not have an option for where you camp. They will direct you to an area of the campground and make you park in a particular spot. There is no point in strategizing about the best spot.

This looks like the spot that you are camping at I'm guessing HG is there every year. He know's people (that's why he's a mod) and they save it for him. For the rest of us, we have no choice, but head to that spot at about 4am and all of his security guard friends are there with all their confiscated drugs and booze, and they party. Make and effort to be there for at least one night.

Well there can be a point in strategizing about the best spot. One can see where the first arrivees are being put and estimate how many people per row there and and which way they are filling up. Then sit and wait for enough cars to pass by before entering. I'm just curious if the back or the front is the best because last year it seemed like security moved from the front to the back shutting down the loud music.

No, strategizing like that will not work. The "rows" are not quite as standard as you're making it seem, it's not like they fill it one ring at a time in that picture or that the sections are even. Also, good luck in trying to sit off to the side for awhile and then rejoining the line without yellow jackets hassling you or other attendees being dicks about not letting you in to where you've so expertly counted yourself out to the perfect spot. Actually, I've changed my mind. You should try your strategy and then report back after the fest. I want to know how well counting it out worked. And I don't think they shut down parties from front to back. I think it goes from whatever is closest to the security group at the time to next loudest that catches their attention. Wander around for long enough at night and you'll see how true that is.

Uhhhh, yeah. No. It is literally impossible to determine or attempt to influence where you end up camping. And in terms of 'party time' -- when it's lights out, it's lights out. They don't start at one end of the campground and make their way to the back politely telling people to be quiet. Security has the campground divided into segments, and they are all patrolled at the same time by different groups of yellowshirts. And you can bet that if somehow you manage to keep your music blasting ten minutes longer than everyone else, you are going to have a swarm of yellowshirts converging on you from all sides telling you to shut it down. The campground is big, but it's not THAT big, and if you're the only party going you're going to be pretty easy to find no matter what.

I see this is a general camping thread, but I'm not gonna make a new thread for one question. I have no idea how well my plan for showing up to premier a few hours later than my friends with my own pass is going to work. My friend is planning on trying to save room for my car in between his truck and trailer, then he'd meet me at the gate when I get there and try to get the security goons to let me go park in the saved spot. Anyone tried this before? Worst case is I park my car wherever they direct me to and just leave it there for the weekend, or move it in the middle of the night when there isn't a stream of people coming in.

We've pulled this off in General no problem, so I'm sure Premiere won't be an issue.

Last year I had a car full of people show up about 30 minutes after us, and they politely asked the people organizing the parking if they could slip through because we had a spot saved for them. It was really no problem!

I did this in premiere the year before last - I arrived hours after my buddy but managed to track him down and parked next to him. He just saved a spot with his canopy that I slid my car into - no problem.

If they won't let you move to the saved spot right away, you can always move to it the next day. But normally it's not that hard if you just politely explain.

I don't foresee any problems, since my car is pretty small and in the past there would have been enough room between the "roads" to park. This is just something new for me, I've always traveled with the group in the past but this year they want to show up as early as possible so they don't have to set up the trailer in the dark, and I won't be able to get there until 9-10pm. Gonna try my best to talk the person at the gate into giving me four premier wristbands so I can attempt to sell the extra three for like $30-40 each.
