Metric
Metric is a Canadian indie rock band. They found early radio success with the song "Combat Baby". Their second album (Live it Out) didn't have the same hit single but they continued to tour and gain popularity (in Canada at least). Their most recent album 'Fantasies' gained them heavy radio play on Canadian alt rock stations. Before 'Fantasies' they released 'Grow Up and Blow Away', which was actually their first album, but due to a record lable shuffle it got shelved for several years. Despite this being my personal favourite Metric album, in the 8 or so times I have seen them they have never played a single song off of it. They have a new album coming out sometime in the spring.
Their live show is very high energy and generally sticks to their most recent album with a couple songs from previous albums. If you are going to listen to one album, 'Fantisies' would be a good place to start unless you want to wait for the new album.
The song 'Black Sheep' from 'Scot Pilgrim vs. the World' sung by the made up band Clash at Demonhead is a Metric song. It doesnt appear on any of their current albums, but they will likely play it live.
One of my favourite songs of theirs, and they usually play it live.

Yay for this. The Crybabychella board does have some good threads - despite all the crying.

Well, shit. Most years I could do this. While I like a shit load of bands on this lineup, not a single one do I have truly expert knowledge (except for a few where EVERYONE has expert knowledge on them).
If you wanna know about Todd Barry though...

I'm pretty sure I've seen Metric play The Twist and Grow Up & Blow Away live over the years. Not a usual thing though. They also have an acoustic cover of Black History Month by DFA1979 that is still getting a ridiculous amount of airplay on the local modern rock station.

If you wanna know about Todd Barry though... I'd love it if you posted about him. I never really know much about any of the comedians and I think it's time I try to check one or two out.

Seriously, though. Todd Barry is LITERALLY at Sasquatch every single year.
I wish to god they'd bring back the Red Wine Boys. I love me some Todd Barry and I won't miss him if I can help it, but when he's paired with Jon Benjamin... Man, the capacity for evil is just boundless.

That Red Wine Boys set was absurd a few years back. Was it Benjamin that Aziz wine-boarded?

Who The Fuck Is...Yellow Ostrich?I got turned on to Yellow Ostrich when Whale popped up as KEXP's song of the day in late December of 2010, and immediately proceeded to buy the LP (The Mistress) off of Bandcamp. I didn't post my end-of-year list here this year, but it contained this bit of prose: "The Mistress isn't my album of the year, but it's been my album of the day a hundred times already." It's a great piece of lo-fi bedroom loop pop that will not be replicated, as over the course of 2011 the project became a band, signed to Barsuk, and filled out their sound. They've got an album, Strange Land, coming out in March; you can download the track Marathon Runner from it and compare/contrast the sound. But seriously, download The Mistress next chance you get; if I get to come to Sasquatch this year these guys may very well be Priority #1 Band Who I Will See No Matter With Whom They Conflict. fun.?"Hey, this band I liked called The Format broke up, but now that one guy is now in a band called fun. Check 'em out!" And so I did, and I thought they were alright. Then they turned up as the feature point of an editorial in Teen Vogue and I knew something was up! So, I dunno, man. They're basically OK Go in terms of cred but whatever it's some funtime good pop music;just check out At Least I'm Not As Sad (As I Used To Be) because you already listened to We Are Young assuming you watched the Super Bowl. Unknown Mortal Orchestra?Okay, I've ordered these in descending levels of knowledge so here things might get a bit fuzzy. These guys are from New Zealand... I think? They made an okay self-titled album blah blah blah go listen to Ffunny Ffrends right now because it was the third-best song I heard in 2011, alright, you did that? Cool so I'll see you at their set then. Bon Iver? And so it Was that the Phoenix of The Woods did RIZE from the ashes of the BREAKING UP of all that He held dear and tapped into a Deep Emotional Place (what might have been lost) to release the Entropy that is inside of all of us And the energy did spread across the Earth, (so) warm, yet (so) cold. And it was called For Emma, Forever Ago.And the Phoenix was lauded by all when they saw it shine and shine it did, its image spread far and wide like the energy. and the phoenix became all places and indeed became Lost in the world; But to his place he did return, now pastel and Warmer than before with chills still present but fewer. And at last they noticed the Phoenix and called him "New." And the Phoenix took not kindly to the love though they now loved him so. And the Phoenix came off kind of dickish, but we still think He is Cool. He Is Cool,

I've seen them six times and have only heard them do "Rock Me Now" from Grow Up & Blow Away. Would be so happy if they brought back the title track from that album or something from Old World Underground... like "Succexy"

Pretty Lights is the musical project of Derek Vincent Smith from Colorado and has gained quite a bit of popularity over the past couple of years. He used to play live with a drummer but meow performs solo. He gained popularity by always releasing all of his music for free through his website and by touring extensively. He's been known to play marathon sets on occasion, unfortunately I've never had the pleasure of enjoying one. I discovered him through some songs of his that were used for some ski movies several years back. He is my favorite electronic music act, and although I'm not sure how much of his live sets are actually 'live' he always throws extremely enjoyable funky dance parties and closing out Friday night on the main stage at The Gorge will be no different. He has an awesome live setup that lives up to his name and with our added contribution of glow it's gonna be an awesome experience.
This was one of the first live videos I ever saw of him and has always been one of my faves.
I love all of his music, but this song always gets the crowd movin' a little bit harder.
The build-up and drop in this song is one of my favorites of his.
His live setup looks a little bit different meow (and might be even more different by Sasquatch) but here's a representation of it from Bonnaroo last year and also shows his potential for marathon sets (played til sunrise, so jealous of all in attendance).
And here's his latest track, which is about as chill as you can possibly get. ;D

Frush made a great post about Wolfgang Gartner yesterday, I figured I would throw it in here. Wolfgang is an entirely different animal live than on record. He has an extremely deep catalog of music and his mixing is flawless. I would highly suggest listening to his essential mix from 2010, I also really like this set from a WMC pool party: www.funkyhousemusic.com/2010/04/08/wolfgang-gartner-live-dj-mix-gansevoort-beach-wmc-2010/I realize those are a bit older, but he has stayed true to himself and continues to play phenomenal house sets with awesome surprises and innovative material every time I've seen him. His latest single There And Back worries me a bit as it seems to be an attempt to get into the wildly popular progressive house segment but I respect him for experimenting and I just hope he doesn't start pushing his livesets that way. Here's a set from last July, I haven't listened to it yet as I'm downloading it right meow but I'm sure it is a good one. ;D mixing.dj/2011/livesets/wolfgang-gartner-live-tomorrowland-2011-belgium-24-07-2011/His Coachella set from 2010 was phenomenal and can be viewed in full on youtube. www.youtube.com/watch?v=nm8xzUOmjY0&hd=1He's my favorite DJ and I can't wait to get down to his funky sounds with all you fools.

Haha nice thanks, I'm listening to his essential right now actually as I realized I hadn't heard it in a while after writing that. I definitely recommend that Tomorrowland set though, as it's from just last summer and it's really freakin' good.

Cloud Cult is a band from Minnesota led by Craig Minowa, who reportedly spurned major label offers in favor of his own Earthology label. Craig and his wife Connie, a painter in the band, live on an organic farm way out in the country and the environment is a constant theme in their music. Another major theme is death and healing, stemming primarily from when their 2-year-old son inexplicably died in his sleep a decade ago. Craig Minowa responded by writing over a hundred songs in a short amount of time and much have that has fueled their albums. Environment and life/death could make for a self-righteous feel but they are super genuine and all around decent people. They are always very humble and appreciative as well. The documentary, No One Said it Would Be Easy, chronicles the band's history. I've seen them three times live and, along with Gogol Bordello, are my favorite band to see live right meow. Their shows are sensory overload with constant videos playing while two artists start and finish paintings over the course of the show. They then auction off the paintings after the show. Connie is one of the painters but she and Craig have had two kids in the last three years and she hasn't been touring as much. I'm not sure if she'll be at Sasquatch and I'm not sure that the video element will translate very well mid-day on the Bigfoot stage. It will still be a great show, however. Album wise, the Meaning of 8 is probably their most critically revered, though Advice for the Happy Hippopotamus is great and Feel Good Ghosts is my favorite, probably because that was the first album I heard of theirs. Their latest album Light Chasers is a concept album about the life cycle and they have been playing a lot of that album at their shows. Musically, they use strings to supply a lot of slow build-up into a more frenetic sound. youtu.be/8-qgvVJq-fsyoutu.be/D8HUPagpzBkSorry, I didn't have luck embedding.
