Cassettes were a stop-gap technology. Comparing the sound quality of cassette tapes to the sound quality of vinyl is fucking idiotic. If you have even the most basic understanding of the two technologies, you understand this.
Here's some truth: some people see a much broader spectrum of colors. Some people are supertasters. Some people have more finely tuned hearing, and those people can detect SIGNIFICANT differences in sound quality between formats. There is nostalgia attached to listening to music on vinyl, but there is also a depth to the sound that can't be duplicated by compact disc or a fucking strip of magnetic tape. The music has a physical presence within the grooves of the LP, and that is what you are hearing.
I understand the nostalgia for cassettes: I had a huge collection, I made mix tapes, I resisted the transition to compact discs for a LONG time. I UNDERSTAND the nostalgia, but I still think it's stupid, and record labels and stores trying to sell them to the slsk generation... reminds me of a Chumbawamba lyric.
They're buying up nostalgia for a time they can't remember

Music on tape has always sounded far worse by a long shot. Tape is also more fragile. The only reason they were ever created and distributed was for the portability. Then there was also the fact that you could rerecord on them. Yeah, it is just ridiculous that they would ever be given another chance.

I'm nostalgic for Chumbawumba. They do sing the songs that remind me of the better times.

Not only did people in Chicago have to choose between a Bjork and a Phish concert last night, but they had to deal with both being rained out halfway through. God damn, I would not be able to handle that shit.

What am I looking at here? It looks like MC Ride hanging out with a young Beyoncé and the surviving male cast of Beverly Hills 90210.

God damn, I would not be able to handle that shit. Phish played their second night in Chicago tonight and picked up right where they left off with the same song they were playing when they left the stage last night, and and ended up playing a third consecutive set to make up for the weather cancellation. What a bunch of classy fuckin' dudes.

Apparently it was a huge night in Chicago because Pearl Jam also had a massive show at Wrigley and came back out after the storm and played till 2.
