This is fascinating. I'm wondering what might possibly cause the people of Portland to riot. Making thick rimmed glasses against the law? Well-played. I went looking for Portland sports riots, and didn't find any; you guys seem pretty chill. However, I did come up with this: www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/sports/nba/longterm/jordan/articles/riot92.htmThe Bulls rioted when they beat the Trailblazers. Vancouver looks docile compared to this (I do realize the different social contexts here; just making a point is all). I couldn't find too much about it, but Detroit beat Portland in 1990; and rioted even harder than the people of Chicago in '92. 7 people died, 140 arrested, hundreds injured.

So here's the injuries that have been released: Kesler had a torn groin and hip, Edler 2 broken fingers and strained back, Higgins broken foot, and Hamhuis has abdominal and groin tears. Jesus those guys are tough.

Making thick rimmed glasses against the law? Yup, Gramma gave us all an opportunity to make a clever/funny reply, and sorry Davers, but you looked like one of those fainting sheep. And if you want to be stereotypical about Portlanders, one of the most prevailing qualities of a hipster is to not care about anything, yet have strong opinions on why they don't care about things. Therefore, Portland would never riot, because they simple don't care enough about anything to warrant such aggression, but they would be sure to bad mouth rioters as being so totally uncool.

Goats, Gunther, they were goats.
I'm still pretty pissed about the moronic behaviour of some of the people in this city to be clear headed enough to think of a clever response.
I hear Europe is nice this time of year. Maybe I'll head over there for a few months and wait for this city to get its head screwed on straight.

I'm just loving it because Canada's stainless steel sense of superiority is looking pretty shabby right now. Americans riot when police commit hate crimes; Canadians riot when they run out of hockey.

I'm pretty upset by all of this. I've really grown to love Vancouver over the past year but this just disturbs me to my core. I live in the city with the worst sports track record in the ENTIRE United States, but you sure as hell didn't see us demolishing everything in site when we were robbed (yes, that's my Seattle bias) of the 2005 Superbowl. If anyone had a loss to be pissed about, it was us that year. Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with people?? Mob mentality is scary enough, but for it to be caused by something like a fucking sporting event quite honestly scares the living shit out of me. Shame... The "Seahawks were robbed" argument always makes me laugh. First off, there were two bad calls everyone points at, the phantom holding call was truly bad, and negated a huge play, but the phantom TD by Ben is still inconclusive, so inconclusive that no matter what the call on the field was, there wouldn't have been enough evidence to overturn it. Neither "bad call" occurred in the final minutes, when a bad call can really affect the outcome of a game. In other words, the Seahawks still had ample time to overcome the "bad calls," which a true champion should. The fact is, that was one of the worst played football games in the last ten years, and neither team deserved to win it. If anything, the Steelers deserved it more because they beat the three best teams in the NFL to get to the Superbowl, and beat all three on the road. Clearly the better team won that game. The Seahawks lucked into that game, and almost lucked into a ring.

Americans riot when police commit hate crimes; Canadians riot when they run out of hockey. or when there's a G20/G8 summit in Toronto and they actually create a law that says they can arrest anybody for any reason. Shit got real in a hurry.

You are 100% right, but I'm still going to bitch about it because that was the closest Seattle has ever gotten to any title since the 1970-whatever Sonics won the NBA championship, and it stung really fucking bad.

C'mon dude, two posts above I referenced two instances where the U.S. outdid Vancouver on riots following a sporting match. Ya, we look bad now, but this is by no means an isolated event.

I have watched the Seahawks play for my entire life. My dad has always been a diehard fan. And I think at that point you should just revel in the fact that they actually made it to the Superbowl at all.

Please dont let this turn into a Canada vs America thread.
The riot was planned and caused by morons who like to fuck shit up. A few equally stupid drunk people decided to play along.
Both countries have their fair share of stupid people. This really doesnt have much to do with Canada or America, just stupid people.

I know, I know. I just can't help myself. Personally, as an American, I just don't even care when Canadians or anyone else says that Americans are lame and do stupid shit. Because we ARE lame and we do more stupid shit than the rest of the world combined. You Canadians always get all, like, "Whoa hey no we aren't that stupid, eh." It's not like I think you guys were out there personally trying to fuck shit up. I just like pulling your noses.
