That was a pretty classless act on the part of the Canucks fans. Championships should be celebrated regardless of the circumstances. That was the biggest moment in the career of every player on the Bruins, so I don't understand why that is being missed. I've watched four of the last five deciding Stanley Cup games, just because I love the victory celebration, even if it's a team I'm not rooting for. I can almost understand the knee jerk reaction of booing, and throwing things on the ice, because its sucks losing. But that game was over before the third period started, so every fan in attendance had ample time to prepare for a loss. I saw exactly two people wearing Canucks jerseys clapping when the game ended. Yes. it was nice when the Canucks pumped up the crowd, but outside of that, it was a shameful display. Well, I hate that I am going to have to do this(especially because I am drunk), but I am going to defend the Canucks fans right now. I really feel all the vitriol and all the booing was 100% directed at commissioner Bettman. It's really hard to explain to Americans or people that are not passionate hockey fans, but Mr. Bettman is one of the most hated men in Canada (if not the most). I was totally blown away by the fans cheering Timmy Tom when they gave him the Conn Smythe, and for the most part it was a pleasant reaction, especially for players like Recchi and Lucic (not so much Boychuk). However....the idiots in Vancouver are rioting at the moment. Its all over the news right now. What a fucking mess, and these jackasses are really giving the canucks fans a bad name.

I understand the Bettman hate, but the "fuck you, we are the best," attitude is what you throw out there in game four. The series is over, so it's time to congratulate the victors, not talk shit about how you would beat them if it was a 15 game series.
Again, I could care less about the outcome, but that was classless. And are they really rioting in Vancouver right now?

Riot police are out, tear gas is going on. Most of the fires are out...but yeah, its getting pretty nasty.
EDIT: Uh oh, the bars are emptying on Granville, it looks like it might get worse....I'm not there, so I'm getting my info from the news, so they might be exaggerating things...but it looks really bad
EDIT 2: Yup, its worse...cops cars are on fire. The police are clearing one street and everyone is moving to another. They haven't been this mad since Axl didn't show up.

Man.... when Calgary lost in the finals the most abundant illegal activities were girls flashing the crowd. Man I hate mob mentality.

Yeah... This is what I really don't understand about hockey fans. Calgary isn't much better. Since I live pretty much right on the red mile, I'm actually happy whenever the flames don't make the playoffs.
I realize not all hockey fans are prone to rioting, but the ones that do give the rest a bad image. Sigh.

Any memories I had of Electric Ave were wiped out from drinking on Electric Ave when I was 18.

Wow. Just want to give a big thank you to the rioters in Vancouver for reminding me that its just a hockey game and that we dont deserve the cup if we are going to act like this.
Also, congrats to Boston. You guys waited a long time for the cup, you deserve it.

I'm pretty upset by all of this. I've really grown to love Vancouver over the past year but this just disturbs me to my core. I live in the city with the worst sports track record in the ENTIRE United States, but you sure as hell didn't see us demolishing everything in site when we were robbed (yes, that's my Seattle bias) of the 2005 Superbowl. If anyone had a loss to be pissed about, it was us that year.
Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with people?? Mob mentality is scary enough, but for it to be caused by something like a fucking sporting event quite honestly scares the living shit out of me.
Shame...

These "rioters" were going to do the same thing regardless of the outcome of the hockey game. There are hooligans in every city, and they all laud an opportunity such as this to exhibit their childish aggression. Unfortunately, tonight the spotlight is on Vancouver's hooligans. But I still think it's the best city in the world.

I disagree. This kind of thing doesn't happen every time a professional team loses a major title.

I was depressed when we lost, but now I'm just utterly embarrassed to share this city with those freaks.

Yeah, they didnt just magically start, someone brought a bunch of gas to start them. That took planning. It also wouldnt shock me to find out that at least a part of the core group werent even from Vancouver (or surrounding areas) and came with the soul purpose of fucking shit up. I could rant about these morons for hours, so I mid as well just stop here. Lets just hope the city recovers quickly and that no one was seriously hurt.

I disagree. This kind of thing doesn't happen every time a professional team loses a major title. True, but if you look back on the recent history of Canadian Hockey teams losing or winning in the playoffs, this is rather commonplace. The media and the police both helped stimulate this riot by giving off the perception that it may happen. I'm paraphrasing, but the message "Please enjoy the game responsibly and don't riot" given out by the Mayor Robertson is akin to a call to arms for those inclined to anarchism. Pair that with the forced early shut down of liquor stores and the overwhelming police presence, well, to me that begets confrontation with those in power. Don't get me wrong; I think this sort of shit it utterly stupid, I guess I am just trying to justify why my city looks pretty shameful this morning

This is fascinating.
I'm wondering what might possibly cause the people of Portland to riot.

We just partied and looked at boobies. Same with Ottawa (minus the boobies). Edmonton in 06 got a little rowdy and Montreal...well Montreal is crazy. The thing is, this keeps happening in Vancouver. Axl Rose doesn't show up? Fucking riot. Lose in 94? Fucking riot. Everyone expected this to happen!
