BLUE JAYS!!!! BLUE JAYS!!!!!! Knowing this year's free agent crop is a pile of turds, I had a tough time guessing why you were so happy to be a Jays fan all of the sudden. Holy crap. They are getting four of the Marlins five best players. How it must suck to be a Marlins fan right now. They just got a new stadium this season, and finally started spending money to build a competitive team. Now they've successfully unloaded every verteran from their team in the last three months. Nolasco is next, then their highest paid player will be making 1.4 million. |

Not gonna lie...I am pretty butthurt about Buck not getting MOTY but Melvin did some amazing things with the A's and I am happy to see him recognized for it.

Yup, one of these manager were going to get screwed, since they were probably the most worthy Manager Of The Year candidates in either league in the last ten years. I'm glad Melvin won, and I feel like he had to manipulate the lineup more than any manager this year, but it sucks Buck had lose. Again, holy shit on that Blue Jays/Marlins trade. I can speculate loudly that Billy Beane is going to be talking with the Marlins GM regularly over the next couple weeks. He's unsuccessfully tried to pry Stanton away from the Marlins for years. It's time to break the farm to get Stanton. The A's have a plethora of young talent to offer the Marlins, and Stanton will come at a discount if the A's are willing to take on Nolasco's contract. They could also land Yunel Escobar to fill their SS gap. Tell me (Chud/Gibbons/anyone else who cares), would the Marlins balk at a trade offer of: Stanton/Nolasco/Escobar for Weeks/Reddick/Griffin/Straily/Peacock/lower level prospect(s)? |

I think it's likely that Stanton will be traded this offseason... The dude made it known that he is not even slightly happy about this trade. If the offer is strong enough, the Marlins will definitely let him go.
As for Yunel Escobar... you guys really don't want or need that guy.

It would require A LOT from the A's however, as Stanton will be making just over the league minimum in 2013. On a business standpoint, the Marlins have no need to trade him. In short, pony up all of your best prospects if you want this to happen.

Tell me (Chud/Gibbons/anyone else who cares), would the Marlins balk at a trade offer of: Stanton/Nolasco/Escobar for Weeks/Reddick/Griffin/Straily/Peacock/lower level prospect(s)? The only reason to balk on a deal like that is the inclusion of Reddick. I don't think Reddick would be something the marlins would want in the deal given the fact that he's on the books for 3 years. Also, even though the numbers say that he's not as valuable as I want to make him out to be, I'd hate to see Reddick go. I'd try to pry away Stanton without any riff raff. I think a package of the top farm guys and Weeks would be enough to get it done. Something along the lines of Weeks, Straily, Choice, Head, Cole and one or two additional lower level guys. This being suggested, I doubt the Marlins will move the guy as he's still under 4 years of team control. HOwever, as important as I think pitching depth is, there is no way you don't make that move if it's a possibility. MOAR HOMURZ PLEEZ!!! Worst case scenario is if for some crazy reason Texas decides to offer up Profar (there is no way they offer Profar is there?) and Stanton gets to hit bombs in Arlington all season long. |

Gotta love Seattle media pretending we are front runners on a big free agent again. Josh Hamilton is not going to be a Mariner. I can't see that happening. I don't really care about some of the red flags that would come with him because we are desperate for some offense. I would actually be super stoked for him to be on the team. It will be just like last year though (how we were front runners for Prince)

The Marlins are idiots for considering parting with Stanton, but their gigantic trade with the Blue Jays was nothing more than a salary dump. One could argue the A's got a better return by trading Gio. If you're going to rebuild, you can't go half-way. Royals fans understand this. It makes zero sense to give away established major league talent for fringe prospects if the goal is to compete in two or three years (unless the Marlins have the greatest farm system in baseball, which I'm pretty sure they don't). Four years from now, Stanton will likely be gone, so why not get a gigantic haul for your best asset before that asset walks? You've already given up on competing while Stanton will be around. I think Chud's trade proposal is more accurate than mine. My thought was the Marlins would want Major League ready talent (like Straily and Griffin) rather than lower level prospects, and Reddick is similarly cost controlled as Stanton. With as much (warranted) shit as the Marlins ownership are getting for this rebuild, they need a cost controlled power hitter to replace Stanton if they make a trade. Reddick and Stanton both play RF, and the A's will have to rid themselves of at least one OFer to make this work. I also agree Yunel isn't a good idea, but I think he's really good defensively, which is why I keep hearing teams are interested in him. He hates gays though, and there are a lot of gays in the bay area, so it's probably a bad fit. Gotta love Seattle media pretending we are front runners on a big free agent again. They LOVE signing free agents with red flags. I've mentioned it before, but they routinely have one of the highest payrolls in the AL, yet still suck every year. I was the happiest person on the planet when they signed Chone to that ridiculous contract. Hamilton is going to take the most guaranteed money he can get, then fade into obscurity, ala Chan Ho Park. |

"they would conceivably part with young, high-end pitching to acquire him. Butler is under contract through 2014 with a club option for 2015, though the Royals are unsure if they have enough offense to move him right now."
Another guy is Cody Ross.
Do you guys know much about Butler?

They call him "Country Breakfast" which pretty well sums him up (I don't actually know why, but it just does).
He has power and would be the DH, as he has no glove. High OPS guy who will hit 20-30 HR. Considering the Mariners have been offensively inept of late, the move would make sense.
Cody Ross on the other hand...

Testing is so far behind the current steroid technology that the only people who get caught are the guys using last year's shit. Seriously, if you had a chance to triple your income by taking illegal drugs, wait, this is probably the wrong crowd for this question. I'm amazed the Blue Jays gave him so much money. I didn't think anyone would offer him more than $4 million on a one year deal. I like what the Blue Jays are doing. They've been forced to play fourth fiddle in the east with the Yankees and Red Sox annually outspending everyone, and the Rays leading the league in how to run a franchise. Right when the Yankees and Red Sox are more vulnerable than they have been in the last decade, the Blue Jays apply the pressure. |

Credit where credit is do... the Blue Jays are a vastly improved squad. They have gone from being mediocre to a team that should challenge for the AL East in under a week. Impressive stuff.
HOWEVER, I don't understand the Melky signing... the Blue Jays literally justed traded away a player notoriously known for being a clubhouse cancer (Yunel), then replaced him with someone known to be an even bigger clubhouse cancer. Forgive the drug pun here, but chemistry goes a long way --- and both Yunel and Melky have proved many times over that they offer very little of that.
