"Jilly's On Smack" is one of the most menacing songs I think Les has ever written. It reminds me of "Shadow of a Man" from the Oysterhead record. It sounds like it must surely be rooted in some personal tragedy, and not at all in an introspective or understanding kind of way.
Sounds like a little boy trying to understand why his sister isn't coming back home again. And those stuttering chanted syllables during the bass jam towards the end... Man, shit's fucking demented.

I've been listening to Oingo Boingo here and there over the past couple days and generally just wondering how Cake hasn't covered Dead Man's Party yet.
Also, if I ever have an 80s themed party, this will be the soundtrack.

The reaction of some of my friends is going to be hilarious when this comes up on shuffle next time we have a party.

Isn't it fucking incredible? I loved both her first two albums, but I'm in awe now. Northern Lights gives me convulsions.

Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick (the first half came up on shuffle and I realized how long it had been since I'd heard Thick as a Brick so I buckled down and listened to the other half while sitting in a Starbucks reading Stephen King's It waiting to see the doctor this afternoon. I had a weird day.) Story time. I never play random on my device, but when my crew plays disc golf, I do. I have some really nice portable speakers, so we rock out while drinking beers and throwing discs. It's nice getting a bit more respect musically when my device plays Roni Size, Phish, Slayer, Clutch, and U2 in order, since most think of me as "Mr. Indie." Case in point, Jethro Tull came on the other night, the song, "Minstrel In The Gallery," to which I said, "This is Jethro Tull's best song, I don't care what you think." They looked at me strangely, before agreeing and saying, "I'm surprised you even have Jethro Tull."
