I can't believe you're suggesting that scalpers HELP the promoter sell tickets. They literally buy tickets that people who are actually attending the festival would've bought (keep in mind, Sasquatch has sold out since at least 2009 so there's no doubt the demand is high enough), and then they sell them at a price much higher than those people would've had to pay. If it were a smaller show that was unlikely to sell out then yes, scalpers take a risk, but with Sasquatch there is 0% risk involved. It's 100% scumbaggery and for you to suggest that they provide a valuable service makes me disregard everything you say. Along with the numerous other logical fallacies in your argument, I now know to disregard any further arguments from you on. Seriously, I'm done arguing about this. That is the dumbest thing I've read in the last week.

To help make it better I made homemade pizza (her favorite) and we're watching Game Of Thrones and drinking some beers. That's a surefire way to lift her spirits!

She's very put together and professional in interviews, she's just been getting unlucky with the selections. I definitely won't get mad at someone for offering advice though, what else would I expect from a forum like this? It's just nice to have people to talk to about problems instead of letting it fester. I know she'll find something sooner or later, I just hope it's sooner rather than later.

My girlfriend is having a really hard time finding a job and she's getting pretty depressed about it. Nothing I can say or do helps her at all and it really sucks to see her feeling like that. She's having 1-2 interviews per week and every time she finds out she didn't get the job she goes into this deep hole of self doubt and bad feelings. I don't have any money so I can't go out and treat her to something or try to cheer her up so I just sit here feeling bad that I can't help.

So do you guys all insist on paying face value when you buy tickets for events where the price is cheaper than face value on concert day (like Coachella Weekend #2)? Because if not, you're all hypocrites. You're assuming that any of us did that, which is the wrong way to argue a point. I'm trying to pay exactly what the ticket is worth, I'm not waiting until the last second to try to get a good deal.

If you honestly think that having everyone buy tickets at market value will drive prices down, you need to take another economics class. Market value is what some people are willing to pay, but they shouldn't have to pay that much. Tickets aren't a commodity to be sold for profit, but many people treat them that way, which causes this entire problem. Granted, demand at this time is much higher than supply so people can easily get away with selling at high cost, but it won't be that way for long. Buying/selling at market value instead of face value raises prices until the point that supply exceeds demand.
If people refuse to pay those high prices, it makes the demand on high price tickets go way way down, forcing ticket sellers to lower prices if they want to get a sale.
Keep in mind, anybody listing a ticket for over face value on any site is the definition of a scalper. I don't care if it was their intention when they bought it or not, they are scalping. We can't stop scalpers from scalping, but we can try our best to minimize the amount of scalping that gets done.

I emailed someone nicely asking them to not offer $450 on craigslist because it only encourages scalpers and will make it impossible to buy face value tickets. They responded by saying "if you're not willing to spend an extra $100 on a ticket, maybe you shouldn't be going to an expensive festival."
That really set me off, what a fucking moron.

The idiots who post wanted ads on craigslist for $400-$450 are going to make it impossible for me to buy a ticket there. If you see people posting those, message them and ask them to please not buy from scalpers and to wait out for face value. Go team!

Of course he was lying, I didn't even get a response to the face value offer.
And I totally agree, if we can gently and nicely shame people who are trying to scalp, then we just might be able to get a face value ticket or two out of it.

There was an ad posted for $500 on the Portland craigslist, so I sent an email saying "people who sell tickets for over face value are bad people". He replied to inform me that if I'd simply asked nicely, he would've sold it for face value even though it was listed at $500. I called his bluff and made fun of him even more, then secretly emailed him on a different email address offering face value and being very polite about it to see if he was lying. I'll report back soon on the jerk.

I've got a wanted ad posted already. Some people reply, but none of them are actually willing to sell at face value like I'm asking for. Eventually somebody will!

Damn, I can't believe I didn't check the board just one night and that's the night a ticket gets posted I could use. I replied, hopefully nobody else jumped on it too quickly before me.

Thanks for posting those guys! Hopefully I can find one in Portland soon enough. The person who I was going to buy it from ended up selling it to their friend so I'm still on the lookout down here now.

Quick question, are kegs allowed in the campsite? I think it would be fucking awesome to bring one this year. Make sure to keep it well hidden from plain sight and you'll do ok. Last year we weren't aware of that and my friend got his entire keg taken away on thursday night. They gave us 30 minutes to drink as much as we could or empty as much as possible in to other containers. Needless to say, we got absolutely obliterated that night because otherwise the little beer we got to keep would've been wasted. We emptied out huge water containers and filled them with beer, it was pretty silly. I still think it's ironic that when taking away our binge drinking device (their words), they actually encouraged us to binge drink more heavily than any of us had planned on doing the entire weekend.

A comedian, soon to be replaced by another comedian! I didn't know she was Tom's girlfriend though, I love her character. Anything related to Jean Ralphio, really.

Transatlanticism was the turning point where Death Cab turned from awesome indie band from the NW to big ol' rockers who make bad music. I think that album probably has the most draw, even though I liked The Photo Album much, much more.
Fun story, on an early EP from Death Cab they had a song titled "Song For Kelly Huckaby". I once met Kelly Huckaby who was doing a student teaching thing at my high school in Bellingham while he was still going to Western, where all the Death Cab guys met and I assume were good friends with Kelly. I'm sure he wasn't very impressed when my stupid teenage friend and my stupid teenage self asked him if he knew Ben Gibbard.

One of my favorite memories was seeing Atlas Sound at Holocene in Portland. It was like $5 and it was an incredible show. At the end, the crowd had gotten kind of sparse as it was almost 2 am, and Bradford Cox handed out the lyrics to The Cranberries' "Zombie" so everyone could sing along as they covered it.
Also, Deerhunter was awesome at Sasquatch a few years back. They are one of the 4 people at Bumbershoot I would definitely pay to see.
