I have a MASSIVE cold. I've felt like death for the past two days. But I didn't party at all (seriously, I had one margarita the entire weekend) and I went to bed early each night. I think it was just the chilly nights that did me in. Each morning I'd wake up with a sore throat that would go away by noon, but on Monday I just felt worse and worse as the day went on. By the time it started raining during Rodrigo y Gabriela, I knew I was a goner.

A friend of ours was arrested during the riot at the gates on Sunday. I wasn't there, but apparently the charges were for 'inciting a riot'. Poor fucker spent two days in the Ephrata jail. Anyway, he's suing Live Nation and from what I hear he's got a decent case against them. If anyone was there and saw what happened it would be useful to hear about. That's ridiculous. My friend and I made it through the gates apparently right before it got ugly, and when we finally made it through, I turned to my friend and said, "This is how riots get started...." I'm not surprised at all to hear the crowd was angry enough with the insane holdup to start a ruckus. It's ridiculous that any individual would be arrested for inciting that. If anyone incited it, it was security guards like the one dude I saw who was taking several minutes *per person* to do a search so in-depth it involved smelling a girl's Chapstick, and shaking out another girl's makeup bag to the point he unscrewed her mascara tubes and examined her freaking eyelash curler. Force a few hundred people to wait through that b.s., causing them to miss bands they paid good money for, and a riot will *undoubtedly* ensue.

During Sharon and The Dap Kings on Monday evening a friend from the group I came out to Sasquatch with was dancing in the walkway when security started ushering everyone onto the grass. After dancing her way up onto the grass she was rushed by security, thrown into a tight gripping headlock and then restrained by multiple guards. She is about 5'2", hardly 100lbs, and WAS ONLY DANCING!! Apparently she was "too mouthy" when she protested the excessive force used on her so she was hauled out of the grounds and then arrested. The charges? DISORDERLY CONDUCT and OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE. That's it. Here is a video we came across on YouTube showing what happened after she had already been thrown to the ground. We are asking if anyone else witnessed this and can provide additional video or photos that document what occurred. www.youtube.com/watch?v=9omr3BCEFeETHIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. WE NEED TO MAKE A VOICE ABOUT THIS IN ORDER TO KEEP IT FROM HAPPENING TO SOMEONE ELSE. Again, she WAS NOT doing anything other than DANCING. Period. Thank you for any information you can provide. [/youtube] I was totally sitting like 10 feet to the right of this! My friend and I were shocked because we saw the whole thing go down and your friend was 100% doing nothing at that moment that seemed to justify the extreme amount of force used upon her. We saw this petite happy girl dancing in her own little zone (and she definitely didn't appear overly intoxicated. She wasn't stumbling or being obnoxious to anyone around her, or anything), some words exchanged between her and a female security guard, the guard taking a step up the hill toward her, the girl taking a step away, and then BOOM, tackle. Then a male security guard came up to help keep her down, forcing her to her knees with her hands behind her back, and a third person came up with handcuffs. My friend and I wondered if she had done something earlier in the festival and security had been looking for her specifically; nothing else made sense. I didn't take photos or video (my iPhone had died) but we were really upset by the whole thing just because it seemed so unnecessary--so I can't imagine how much that must have sucked for her, or her group of friends! Is she OK? We wondered if she had been injured at all because she was being held in what looked like a pretty painful position, from our vantage point on the lawn. If all she was doing was mouthing off, that's really ridiculous. If someone tackled me for that alone, I'd surely also resist. I'm not going to calmly let a stranger handcuff me for no real reason. So if that's really the whole story, then...damn, I wish you and your friend the best of luck with this. Definitely messed up.

Oh, and I heard reports of the awesomeness of the sand-sculpting competition. In fact I think I remember reading a Post and Courier article about it. I guess that was from your journalism capstone project? What school did you do that at, by the way? Yeah, it was probably my story you read, then. I think I was the only person covering it for the paper. It was the most fun assignment I had all summer (even if my story got shoved at the last minute from Sunday A1 to the B section or something), because I got the reporting done really quickly and was able to spend a few hours splashing around in the water with my friends before heading back to write the story. I reeeeally miss Charleston's super warm water. I loved the beaches down there. And yeah, the free tickets were essential. Those types of shows are not priced for poor people, heh. The school was Syracuse. The whole capstone was such a success for both my program and the P&C that they're doing it again this year, so keep an eye out. Good luck with your shows! Target some of the 'Cuse students...they shouldn't be too hard to find once they hit town. Maybe you can get some extra press coverage.

You should see if inthecolumbiagorge has any spare tents left, she had offered to bring them to the campgrounds for anyone that needed. And, welcome! Seconded. I'm borrowing a tent and mattress from her. From what I can tell, she's a ridiculously nice lady. Although, I ended up borrowing a bunch of stuff for last year as well but after you go to Sasquatch you definitely become addicted. You're probably going to want to go next year and so camping supplies may be a worthwhile investment. That's what I was thinking...particularly because I do love camping and perhaps owning the actual equipment myself would encourage me to go more often and take advantage of all the spots here in beautiful WA.

All time Favourite Festival: Spoleto Festival 2010. That's kind of a random response, I guess, but I was there for all three weeks and it was amazing. If you don't know what Spoleto is, it's an annual festival in Charleston, SC, that is mostly classical music, dance, opera, jazz/blues, and theater. If you're into that sort of thing, it's heaven. Well I'LL BE DAMNED, someone else has heard of this. I'm actually playing in 2 musicals for this thus preventing me from attending Sasquatch. Needless to say, Sasquatch is an entirely different world. (Alright, I'll come clean: the musicals are a part of Piccolo Spoleto.) I had a feeling that if anyone was going to respond about Spoleto, it would be you! I went for the first and only time last year, as part of a journalism grad school capstone project, where we covered the fests for the Post & Courier. Which meant tons of free tickets to pretty much anything I wanted to go to...it was insanely awesome. Piccolo Spoleto is so much fun, too! What musicals are you going to be in? My favorite part of my entire time in Charleston was, not gonna lie, the Piccolo sandsculpting competition. It was also my favorite story I wrote for the P&C. I assumed Sasquatch would be an entirely diff world. Sometimes you need to be classy and listen to chamber music for days on end...and sometimes you need to go unshowered for a long weekend. Life is worthless without variety.

You're going to have your mind blown. It seems so! I've been lurking through threads on here for the past couple weeks and all the stories from Sasquatch veterans have me 500x more stoked about this than I was before.

Hello! Now that Sasquatch is almost upon us, I figure it's time to introduce myself....
Name: Tamara What my user name represents/means: I'm a baseball fan. My fellow season ticket holders gave me this nickname. Aaaand. The end. From: Los Angeles, originally. Now living in Seattle. Favorite Bands: The Decemberists, Josh Ritter, Sufjan Stevens, The Faint, Mother Mother, Cloud Cult.... It changes up a lot, I guess. My All-Time Favorite Artist: Elvis Presley. I never know how this will be received, but there you have it. #2 is Bing Crosby. I also never know how *that* will be received. First Concert Attended: Ummm. Hard to pinpoint, but I guess Chuck Berry/Little Richard, which my mom took me to when I was a kid because I begged and begged. My first rock concert on my own, though, was No Doubt/Garbage/The Distillers when I was in high school. Last Concert Attended: Crystal Castles in Seattle in March. All time Favourite Concert: The Decemberists at Terminal 5 in NYC in Sept. 2009.... It was their "lottery show" where they played a couple hours of random songs determined by fate. It was amazing. Sasquatches Attended: This is my first! I've never been to a camping festival before, so this is a biggie.

Hello! So, I'm another newbie to this board, but I've been lurking for a couple weeks now, gathering info for what will be my very first visit to Sasquatch! I'm so happy to see a friendly girly thread on here.... Like Bee, I thought it would be more comfy to say hi here before venturing into posting in other sections of this board.
Anyway, it's nice to meet you all! Like I said, this will be my first Sasquatch and also my first camping festival ever. I moved to Seattle about 8 months ago and have hardly any friends here, so I was concerned I wouldn't have anyone to go to Sasquatch with...but a friend from grad school hooked me up with one of her friends who also wanted to go. So, I'm gonna be with a friend of a friend whom I've never met before, but I'm sure it's going to be an awesome adventure! I'm so excited for the experience, and also a little nervous.... I have no camping equipment of any kind, and for some reason I didn't think of that when I bought my festival ticket. Hah, so it's gonna be a pretty penny getting all stocked up for the long weekend....
All right, that's all. Just wanted to say hi! And thanks for all the informative posts!
-- Tamara
EDIT: Hm. I use too many exclamation points...
