I'm reeeeally diggin the Wakarusa lineup. There's an easy 20 bands playing there that I'd love to see at Sasquatch. Are there any that YOU guys think have a good chance of playing? wakarusa.com/2012/lineup.aspPrimarily from Wakarusa I want - Pretty Lights, Ghostland Observatory, the Devil Makes Three, the Sheepdogs, G. Love and Special Sauce, Slightly Stoopid, the Avett Brothers, and of course PRIMUS. I know Ghostland has played several times at the Gorge, any of the experts care to chime in on their chances? Are they headliner/subheadliner status? Also the Avett Brothers are billed pretty high could they be one of our Headliners/sub headliners?

I was young. The only things on my mind were getting drunk, seeing Aerosmith and fucking my girlfriend at the hotel after it was all done. It was at a time when I only cared about the music I cared about if you know what I mean? Its not a mistake I'd make presently.

Oh my god. I bet it fucking was the Cult. Like'em or not, Aerosmith killed it and their opening band was horeshit, but I bet it was the Cult and not the Cure.

The Cure? Really? That is an option? The fucking Cure? Maybe it was an off day but I saw them open for Aerosmith like 8ish years ago and they were awful. There are people that want to see the Cure, live? I'd rather have Creedence.

RHCP being out is most definitely NOT a good thing. That fucking sucks, my hopes and dreams are crushed. At least I'm prepared this year for the announcement of headliners that will inevitably be shitty. Thats ok, here's to another year of epic undercard bands and dance tent shenanigans. Chad me all you want, everyone bitched about the Foo Fighters but then they won the little vote for best performance so I don't want to hear it because you know damn well it would have been the same with the Chili Peppers. This was going to be my shot at seeing RHCP, one of my favorites. And of course ticketmaster is fucking Satan and scalpers have purchased all the tickets for all their other shows I could'be possibly made it to.

Roflcopter, Chad bands. Whoever suggested packing extra socks, I'm with you. I hide my enhancers inside a clean pair of fresh socks so not only do I get to put fresh socks on but when I do that my night reaches a fresh level of recreational. Candy raver shit kid. Haha.
I want to be excited about reentry like it does something for me, but jesus H tittie fucking christ thats a helluva walk to make more than once per day and for what? A sammich? Some of your own beer? I usually save myself for drinking until after I get back to camp.
I love the comment about passing out hammered in a tent during the day. This will definetly RUIN you. Even if you're wasted at 10am and pass out at 11am. Its real hard to recover from that with a few hours sleeping in a hotbox tent.

Pretty sure Sevendust was called in to replace Static X since they're on hiatus.

A little off subject here but one of my reasonable suggetionss was a band called Floater. Anyone else listen to them or seen them live? They are not well known outside of the west coast. I think alot of you folks on the board would like them.

My glomies and I were in the twin cities to see the Nectar. We drove from Minot. I think the Roy Wilkins is fantastic for a 5000 person venue. Bassnectar totally crushed it. He sounded great and the new light show mesmerized my ultra. I was 3the people from the front. His set was so good. He was impressive at Sasquatch but that performance left me unfulfilled. EOTO opened for him and they REALLY surprised me. I didn't like their studio work at all and I've since found their studio work compares not at all with their live stuff. They would be cool to see at Sasquatch.
That was my second show at Roy Wilkins this year, we went to A Perfect Circle there this summer. I wish I lived closer id go broke seeing shows. Tiesto and Black Keys both played there this year and Pretty Lights played this week I think?
I would go see Bassnectar again in a heartbeat. Anyone want to lay down odds of Sasquatch booking him, glitch mob, and sleighs bells again next year?

Bassnectar played for over 2.5 hours when we saw him at the Roy Wilkins Ampitheater in St Paul. It felt like he dug pretty deep into his catalogue as he busted out Cozza Frenzy and a few other tracks from that Album. Also got to hear an untainted Timestretch which blew me away. His new light/video show was awesome. The glowpacalypse ruled, but I was too far back to get the full appreciation of the Nectarspectrum! Haha. Plus It felt like his Sasquatch set was really short.
Glitch Mob is suppose to be cutting new tracks and releasing it soon, there is a Bassnectar remix! I'm dying to hear it. Their set at Sasquatch changed me. I have a friend who just saw Pretty Lights and they seem to well liked. I've downloaded him on Zune but haven't given it a listen yet. Nero's 'Welcome Reality' melted my face off

I can totally relate to your opinion on Skrillex, deadpunk. When I first heard it I was like 'Oooh this is so awesome." I don't dislike his music now, but it didn't stand the test of time for me. Like a movie you watch once and think is amazing but simply isn't good upon repeat visits. I got down like a fool at his Sasquatch set though and I woulnd't mind seeing him again, but I don't think he has anywhere near the diversity of someone like Bassnectar. Skrillex was one of the first dubstep 'groups' I was introduced to and It blew my mind initially. I don't hate his music now but he was a stepping stone for me into dubstep. I don't go out of my way to listen to his music anymore. My favorites right now are Bassnectar, Nero, and the Glitch Mob, plenty of others I listen to, but those 3 stand out for me. Just saw Bassnectar on the 30th with his new stage set up and it was awesome.

At the Tool show I did but I think that had alot to do with that show, the crowd, the enhancers, and the 23 friends that drove with me from North Dakota.

I would have seen it if the line didnt take FOREVER on the first day. I fear that the major bands that tour next year(Radiohead, RHCP) will warrant their own Gorge show. If I recall Soundgarden played the Gorge like a month after Sasquatch? God for fucking lame.

The awesome feeling of turning someone on to one of your favorite bands NEVER fades. You are very welcome and to think I tried not to come on too strong with it. I've spent oodles of time analyzing their lyrics and have found so much inspiration in life through their music. Their sound, ideals, lyrics and philosphy really helped shape the core of who I am.
Whoever mentioned their music was about self discovery couldn't be more right. Ride the spiral.
Tool's cover of No Quarter is on par with the original which few bands can claim to have achieved with Zeppelin's music. I think its important to note that they make the song their own without losing or changing too much from the Zeppelin version. I'm ultra critical of any Zeppelin cover I hear so I don't dole out these compliments lightly.
Tool is scarecely metal. You don't find the constant wailing drowned over by power chords and fast drums. I know thats a terrible blanket statement but its hard to like 'regular' metal when you're a huge Tool fan. Lyrically it NEVER compares and no band has the synchronicty of lyrics, voice, guitar, drums, and overall sound in that genre like Tool does. I like to think Mudvayne comes real close, their lyrics are ultra thoughtful and poetic and their song diversity is awesome. Sadly they didn't really maintain that greatness beyond their first few albums.
Everything has to be categorized so Tool generally gets washed into metal and maybe that was justifiable prior to Lateralus, but the progressive sound of that album shatters the stereotype. If there is a relevant group out their with lyrics as intelligent and philosophical as Maynard's with a cohesive sound to reinforce it I haven't heard them. Smart and powerful with one of the best drummer's in the world. I've said it on these boards before and I'll say it again - Tool at the Gorge is the best concert I've ever fucking seen and I long for the day that a band can put on a better show.
Another interesting thing to note regarding the Zeppelin/Tool comparison is that Danney Carey is also involved with Black Magic and has traveled throughout the world to learn musical incantations whilst familiarizing himself with the unique cultural sounds of the world. Zeppelin also did that as I imagine any transcendant group of musicians has.
Deep breath.

There is no bad choice from their catalogue my friend. My favorite track from 10,000 days is Rosetta Stoned. Daney's drums in that song prove that he is a human octopus.

Oh dude no apologies needed, starting a debate is a good thing! I've just never bought into the 'play this song backwards for a crazy intrepration' thing. I will give it a listen later and reshare my thoughts. Its just so hard in this technology age to determine if its legit or if its just some asshole changing it intentionally to create a belief. Do you have a link where I can hear it again?
Are there lines in particular you refer to that don't make sense? Plant wrote the lyrics while at Bron Yr Aur cottage so it's anybody's guess what his mental state was at the time or if perhaps he and Page were invoking demonic spirits that told him to write the lyrics as such. Its anybody's guess, really.
Its also well documented that Plant became very disenchanted with song later in life. Who knows why? It reminded him of his dead best friend or perhaps of the demon that provided him with the lyrics?
