My girlfriend, the one with the PhD that loves dance music, would be PISSED to read that. PhD really doesn't equal intelligent anymore, have you seen half the people with their PhD in education?? Haha, I wouldn't trust most of them to make change for 20 dollars. Many PhD programs are challenging but there are so many worthless liberal arts PhDs out there today, that you have to ask someone exactly what exactly they have their Doctorate in before you assume anything. I don't quite think that's true. The amount of time and discipline required to obtain a PhD thins out the herd. Are there idiots with PhDs? Sure. There are also probably many geniuses with BAs or Associate Degrees or some who simply skipped college all to together. For the record, my girlfriend has a PhD in Paleopalynology. And she loves dance music.

Loyal from London, I agree on the "HOLY SHIT" factor. Sasquatch usually has headliners that put "ON A SHOW"! Like lights and props and naked chicks (Flaming Lips), Giant old school moniters on Poles (Arcade Fire), Marionettes (Beck), 22 piece Asian unic choirs (Bjork). I just can't find those headlining bands this summer? That is the eact reason i thought the Cure and REM were kind of a dissapointment last year because of the lack of stage show. Seriously! The nudity during the Flips show was worth the price of admission alone (can't forget the UFO). Same goes for Arcade Fire and Bjork, ah sweet wonderfully weird Bjork. It's the mainstage. I expect a show damnit.

Admittedly, I don't speak from experience, but I would imagine that seeing Vedder performing Into the Wild on his own would be VERY different than seeing Pearl Jam at the Gorge. I'm sure that a few people who look at these boards would agree. From experience, seeing any band at the Gorge is automatically better. Even shat bands are better. REM were garbage last year, as were Mars Volta. But because of the atmosphere and crowd and scenery, and hell, sitting next to Tim Meadows, it was slightly better. slightlyIf I had a choice between seeing Vedder on his own and Pearl Jam, I gotta go with Vedder. If I had a choice between the venue I saw Vedder at (which was intimate) and the Gorge, I'd go with the Gorge every single time.

TV on the Radio, Shins, Costello, MGMT, David Byrne, Of Montreal, PBJ, Neil Young, not bad. Not sure it would be worth the $1500 for the VIP tickets though. There's no HOLY SHIT factor.
I don't have much interest in Pearl Jam, though I did see Vedder live last year performing the Into The Wild songs.

Electronic/Dance music tend to draw a younger, less intelligent crowd My girlfriend, the one with the PhD that loves dance music, would be PISSED to read that.

I have this strange hunch that we are gonna get elvis costello... I saw him live at HoB in Chicago in 2007. Great set.

I love Phish.
I think Sasquatch is at its best when it mixes genres. I'll take a line-up that includes Super Furry Animals, Blue Scholars, Belle and Sebastian, Muse, Phish, and Wilco anyday.

There's a pretty big area where they've shown movies for the past 2 years (not Christmas on Mars related). I remember Beowulf one night last year as I stumbled back to my tent. That would work for a Dance Tent.
Also, the Comedy Tent was a joke (no pun intended). The food tent for VIPs was set right next to it and my girlfriend and I were having issues all weekend long getting in and out to eat.
The funniest thing was most of the comedians ended up in the VIP secition for the mainstage and Tim Meadows was smoking weed next to me and got really depressed during The Cure. Good times.

They need a dance tent, fuck the outdoor movie theatre.
I don't think I danced much last year, certainly not compared to Bjork in 07

I have gone to the last 4 Sasquatch festivals and this year for 2009 I would really like to see KINGS OF LEON. I know a whole lot of other people that would love to see them as well. They are one of the best bands out there right now. Whoever you are that is in charge of the music lineup.....get KINGS OF LEON booked asap! Plus......they are tight w/ Pearl Jam and would probably play a song together which would be amazing. I also hope to see MGMT, Vampire Weekend, Pearl Jam, Flight of the Concords, PETER BJORN & JOHN.....love you guys. Well I could go on forever......that's a wrap. I saw Conchords twice last year (including Sasquatch). Not sure if they should do the mainstage again. Maybe Wookie.

Seems like there was some criticism of last year's lineup due to the fact so many of the bands had played previous 'Squatches. I wouldn't mind if Arcade Fire or The Spree or The Flips played every single year. My issue with last year was truly awful bands like The Mars Volta and well-known bands like REM and The Cure which played shitty sets.

I thought the Polyphic Spree performed a late night snow because they're main stage set was cut short because of the wind storm? I thought that was the case as well. There were maybe 25 people there for the late show, it certainly wasn't advertised. I ended up on the same flight back to Dallas with the Spree(consequently touring the US with them in Chicago, Milwaukee, New Orleans).

but if Weezer play a Pinkerton and Blue album heavy set-list, I might forgive them for the past 9 years of terrible music. ;D amen

I went to Sas in 2008 and 2007 and can definitely say having the wrong bands play can bring out the less than desirables. I've always thought of Sasquatch as being about peace and love and a friendly enviroment and bands like Fleet Foxes and Polyphonic Spree mirror that.
I wouldn't want to share the area with a bunch of twats rockin' out to Guns N Roses.
That said, I thought the line-up last year wasn't remotely as good as 2007 and considering how much I spent for the VIP tickets, I'm taking a pass on 2009 (unless Radiohead plays)

Just 2 chicks in and among all the good 'ol commoners. Have to live it up right, right? "Regular folks camping" is the way to go to get the full Sasquatch experience. Pssh, who needs to shower every 3 days? Who needs air-conidtioned shuttle service? Not this guy. I'd much rather stumble back to the campsite at 1:00am alongside 15,000 complete strangers who are just as stoked about just seeing R.E.M, The Cure, or Flaming Lips, as I am. Then back to the campsite to chill, have a couple beer and talk about the day that was (of course while respectfully using our inside voices outside once the 2:00am quiet time hits). I can sleep when I'm 40... yeahhhhhh, no. I hiked the Quinault Rain Forest yesterday and now its 2AM and I'm heading out for a 6 hour drive up to BC to do some spelunking. The last thing I need is a lack of sleep at Sasquatch this weekend. Plus, I'm 31. That's like 40 only different.
