I like Naked City Brewery, personally. 2ndairyfurmentashn, I take it as a personal offense that you consumed and yet haven't commented on your feelings on my favorite beer.

OK, sooooorry if this has been brought up/discussed/dismissed before but visting Portland for the FIRST time this year before/after Samsquanch and must, must visit a brewery. I'm a huge IPA fan. Rogue and Bridgeport are wonderful, but anything off the beaten path recomendations this season? Or should I just go crazy at Apex? Just to chime in to the discussion, I've had a lot of really beautiful IPAs from Colorado, my favorite mainstream there has to be Avery.

I have their stuff all the time. Two Hearted in particular is a great beer. Hopslam only comes out once a year with a limited run so they charge an arm and a leg for it. I agree cbats, Hopslam is the ish. Two Hearts is a close second, IMO.

Snakebob, if I lived in Portland I think I could go a year and still not hit all of the amazing beer oriented places there. I really enjoyed HUB for the hop factor personally

For a solid IPA that you can find in most western states, check out the 2012 Ruthless RYE IPA from Sierra Nevada. As with all their beers, very tasty. Does Sierra still qualify as a craft beer? Domestic perhaps? Regardless, the Ruthless is mighty nice.

Rogue and Bridgeport are wonderful, but anything off the beaten path recomendations this season? Or should I just go crazy at Apex? Just to chime in to the discussion, I've had a lot of really beautiful IPAs from Colorado, my favorite mainstream there has to be Avery. Hello! I am also a huge IPA fan and I live in Portland. Rogue has a public house here but not a brewery. I guess they have the distillery up here. I love the public house in Newport, which is where the brewery is, but the one in Portland left me cold. The service was sub-par and the food was not nearly as good. You should definitely go to Apex. They have all of the beers on tap and good pinball. They change out the choices fairly frequently so it is fun to try new things. They also impeccably clean their taps and use a rinse on all of their glasses before they pour which leads to your beer tasting just like you want it to, not old taps. There are a couple of stores around town that have insane amounts of bottles. There is one on SE 39th and Belmont that is just a mini mart from the outside but the whole back wall is fridges with microbrew bottles. Also across the street from Apex there is a place called The Beermongers that has a lot of cool bottles you don't see elsewhere. I grabbed a couple of interesting looking IPAs from there the other week. I got the Hopportunity Knocks, which is from Caldera I believe, and Hopwallop which I am not sure who makes it. There are four Lompoc public houses here, one in each quadrant, and they have some good beers. My favorite is the one in North Portland. There is also the Lucky Lab but I don't ever really go there. Hope you have a wonderful time in Portland and if there is anything else you need to know I can certainly try and help.

Oh yeah I forgot about HUB. Their DOA is really good. Our friend recommended that a couple of times, I am going to have to try it. Sierra probably isn't considered craft here, but when I lived in SW Florida it was a godsend as all they have are shitty beers.

OK, so the pre-funk for the Boundary Bay IPA growler will be the Spaten Optimator. If there are any virgins of the Optimator out there, you have to give it a shot. It is a doppelbock that always gets me rowdy. 7.6%ABV...and dericious Attachments:

OK had to scratch the growler due to tardiness of friends. Switched up to Firestone Union Jack IPA. Always a safe choice if you are feelin' the hop action for the evening (or whenever)

Our Whole Foods down the street is offering growlers. We'll walk ours down the block to fill ours up every once in a while. Its pretty radical.

Words cannot explain how jealous I am of all you Americans with easy access to cheap (by Canadain standards) craft beer. I only know of a few places in Vancouver that offer growlers and they are way too far away from me to even consider.

I'm currently in Wisconsin visiting the grandparents. I love all the options in the PNW, but New Glarius makes me happy. Also, arriving and finding that my grandpa has stocked up on craft beer for my visit fills my little hamster heart with joy.

Budos Band rocked that shit but I got a little burnt out of "craft beer" for a sec, so I had a Spire Dark & Dry cider....greatest beer break ever....then I got right back into the 21st amendment bitter american, buenos noches amigos!

Ninkasi Sterling Pilsner...first time I have had this beer. I think that I fell in love. One of my favorite pilsner style beers to come out of the NW in a while. Also had their English Bitter but was not impressed. Attachments:
