My girlfriend recently got a job doing office work/social media for a company in Portland that gives Brewery tours. In the last week I've gone on a few free tours where we ended up going to the Portland staples (Rogue, Deschutes, Bridgeport) and a few others I hadn't heard of yet but am now hooked on (Pints, Gigantic Brewing). Gigantic only has one beer they always brew, otherwise they have single batch brews that they only make once and then never again. To go along with it, each brew has a unique piece of art made for the label. They're been around for a few years, so they're got quite the cool art/beer collection. Needless to say, this seems to be a great job for my girlfriend to have. Tons of free day drinking with some great brewpub food thrown in to boot!

Phillips is canning their beers?? I thought they were supposedly working on distributing to USA. Hurry up Phillips!
Gigantic Brewing is great. I am surprised that they only make batches of all but one of their beers once though. I have seen the IPA (assuming this is their always making beer) and CDA in our bottle shop since last summer. Maybe the bottle shop just purchased a high quantity of them. The most recent bottle that I had was meant for Emptyfox (Whole In The Head Imperial IPA). It was a delicious ass kicker.
That job sounds rad! Hopefully she always gets a plus 1 for you!

You are correct about the Gigantic IPA, that's their standard. Also, the Whole In The Head was one of the beers we got to taste when we toured there! Now that I know where it is, I'm very eager to head back there every few weeks and see what they've got that's new.
I may have misquoted what they said about the batches. They only brew each one for a specific amount of time, usually 3 months at a time, and then move on. Most of that goes to bottles since they don't distribute very many kegs, so I wouldn't be surprised to see something from a few months ago still populating a shelf somewhere. There's also the solid possibility that I was misinformed, and that they in fact DO repeat recipes from time to time. If that were the case though, I'd expect new bottle art to differentiate the two.

I’m always curious what is going on with them so if you try anything new let me know. I liked their take on the Mexican Vienna Lager (giving props to Negra Modelo on the bottle). It was a bold move brewing that style of beer and they did it well.
Edit: I think it was called Black Meddle

Oddly enough, that was the third of the three beers that we got to taste on the tour! That beer was delicious for the same reason I liked another new brewery I'd never heard of in Chinatown, Pints. We tasted 3 different "session" beers in varying unique styles, and they were all very good. I want to go back to try all of their beers now, I think they have 10+ of their own brews on the menu.

Engine House #9 in Tacoma makes the shittiest beer ever, but it's a 2 minute walk from my apartment and I'm drunk off their beer right now. So yea.

Engine House #9 was at WA Brewers fest. I didn’t try any of their beers though. There were a ton of breweries there that I have never heard of. I tried a lot of beer that I was not a fan of. I stayed away from trying beers I knew that I would like though. The best beer that I tried from a brewery I never heard of before was Bale Breaker (out of Yakima) Field 41 Pale Ale. Tasty stuff. Keep your eyes open for it because it looks like they are canning.

Tried this beer tonight: Lord of the Hops by Parallel 49. This is the 4th beer I've had by them that I've really enjoyed. It is a mixture of 5 different hops...it ends with a slight hint of citrus , at least that what I think. I don't think you Americans can get it, but I'd recommend it to the Canadians that haven't tried it. Hopefully me and Fox can hit up this brewery soon.

Another beer I tried tonight: Amnesiac Double IPA - Phillips Another brewery in BC that I have yet to be disappointed by. Not a bad brew at all. (sorry if you guys have already talked about any of these beers, I'm just kind of getting into it, and I really enjoy beer labels the way I enjoy album covers, so I like taking pictures of them together. Nod to FD for making me realize this)

The way I felt about this one my girlfriend picked out is described my the album title: West Coast IPA - Green Flash It tasted like water, mixed with lemon wood cleaner mixed with horse piss. 0/10 , would not drink again.

I like the flowers/album/beer pairings. It would have been especially funny if you put some different flowers in each picture.

Amnesiac Double IPA - Phillips Another brewery in BC that I have yet to be disappointed by. Not a bad brew at all. Only time I've been disappointed by Phillips is when they didn't give me a job. You get a free pony keg each month! (Maybe I showed too much interest in that.)

Ballast Point (out of San Diego) will be doing an event at Copper Hog tonight in BHAM. Any of you boarders (or lurkers) in my neck of the woods should go and taste their beers. I have been to their brewery and it is super tasty and it is hard to come by in Washington.

Had a few beers featuring Citra Hops, I'm new to this whole beer world but I really like the flavour this provides. Obligatory flower photo: Deschutes - Fresh Squeezed IPA ... big fan of this one. I think it's from Oregon. (flowers are Snapdragons ...not violets unfortunately) I keep hearing about this Stone Brewery, but I have yet to find it in Vancouver? Any pointers from the BC peeps?

They have Stone at Brewery Creek for sure. Not too sure where else you might find it in Vancouver.

Went to Hopworks Urban Brewery (HUB) last weekend during a bachelor party. They have a single hop IPA on tap right now that uses only centennial hops. I enjoyed that beer!
Also, my parents went to Victoria a couple of weeks ago and brought back a bunch of beer. Tried Amnesiac Double IPA and it was very tasty. I hope they don’t drink the others before my next visit!
