Wait a sec, was the F-bomb bleeped out in the States? It most definitely was not on the CTV feed in Canada.

Wait a sec, was the F-bomb bleeped out in the States? It most definitely was not on the CTV feed in Canada. I read an article last night that said they had bleeped it and I was like... umm no they didn't? Confusion... I assume they already had a delay on it in the south so maybe they caught it there.

She talked for so long that I stopped listening, but others here confirmed it was bleeped.

Even though the Second Circuit recently found the FCC's "fleeting expletives" policy unconstitutional, most networks are probably still operating a delay system for live broadcasts to avoid playing with fire and/or pissing off American families (by which I mean the 2,000 or so people who spam the FCC through the PTC and lead to all this bullshit in the first place).
Anyway, the reason we're not talking about it is because it was tame. I'm sure it shocked all the 80-year-olds in the audience, but it was hardly risque or worth talking about beyond "Wow, she really didn't plan anything for when she got up there, huh?" And that comment really goes toward her directionless meandering rather than a single utterance of the word "fuck."

She just won an award for "acting," and she "acted" surprised she used the word. Her meandering was planned, and so was the use of the F Bomb.

Ya, it's hard for me to imagine someone who openly campaigns for the award and goes so far as to take out full page ads wouldn't have prepared an acceptance speech.

Ya, it's hard for me to imagine someone who openly campaigns for the award and goes so far as to take out full page ads wouldn't have prepared an acceptance speech. Exactly. I heard about her ads, which apparently aren't all that uncommon for nominees, but she caught a lot more flack about it than anyone else I've ever heard of. So she campaigned the hell out of it, she won the Golden Globe, and wasn't prepared for an Oscars acceptance speech? Whatever. I'm not bothered at all that she swore, and I'm not particularly bothered that it aired in places, I'm just surprised it was let through. Thanks for the legal info though, I-8. When it first happened I figured automatically that it must have been live and not a network mistake, but I was also assuming it happened in the States just like I saw it. The CRTC is just as conservative as the FCC, though, so I imagine that it was also tape delayed in Canada but someone "fuck"ed up.

You're welcome. I wrote a Note on it and accordingly know way more about how shitty the FCC is than I ever wanted to.

Hahahahaha Coen's were all like "Fucking Documentaries, how do they work?" This post alone makes me want to watch the Oscars now.

Melissa Leo's acceptance speech was so poorly staged it's not funny. She was amazing in The Fighter - but her antics at the awards were so clearly fake and lacking actual sincerity - the academy should take her Oscar away and give it to the girl from True Grit.

Just sayin'

Hailee Steinfeld totally should have won that Oscar.

Cbats - 16 Know - 15 Comeswithasword - 14 Stamper - 14 Drew - 14 cool ice - 11 Horned - 10 Souly - 10 I developed a higly sophisticated methodology in determining my Oscar picks, and I would've gotten a victory if it wasn't for that pesky cbats. I didn't actually watch one movie I voted for, but it goes to show that extensive research and sound reasoning skills can lead to highly accurate Oscar picks. As is, I am just happy I beat most of the movie experts here, especially Drew. By the way, my highly sophisticated methodology in beating all of you (except cbats) in the Oscar pool was to copy Stamper's answers from earlier in this thread, but change the Film of the year. Since I got that one right, I beat Stamper by one. Isn't that weak, stealing his answers, then beating him? I was waiting for someone to let the cat out. Even though I did it as an asshole joke, it made following the Oscars a lot more fun, knowing who to root for.

going into Oscar Week I had pretty much conceded that 'The King's Speech' would probably take home the oscar for Best Picture - I just never bothered to update my pics. But that would have been the only answer I would have changed.
I still wouldn't have won.

Juno is pretty freakin awesome! Also The Leo speach did seem pretty contrived. So is anyone interested in her new movie Red State?
