Animal Collective is playing not one, but TWO shows at the Fox in Oakland. Fuck yes I'm going to both. I was hoping a second Portland show would be added after the initial one sells out in twenty minutes, but they didn't have an open date the day before or the day after. It's tempting to jump on a plane and head to the bay that weeknd. If only the A's were in town.

You should. I hope they play different sets. I'm sure they will, right?

You should. I hope they play different sets. I'm sure they will, right? Animal Collective shows don't feel spontaneous, at all. They feel carefully planned out to the last freak out detail. I expect all the shows on their tour will be same, especially if they have an expensive light show and visual display. It will still be worth seeing twice though.

Primus was fucking insane. We almost didn't go, but we decided last minute we couldn't miss it and headed down to Eugene with Geno.
They played two sets; the first one was loud and mean, and we got an excellent 'American Life' and the fucking badass 'Mr. Krinkle', which has always been one of my favorites. Things got out of control during 'Jerry Was a Racecar Driver'.
Second set was a front-to-back performance of Green Naugahyde, which I wasn't expecting and couldn't even have thought to hope for. It was fucking awesome. I can't think of any record from the last ten years which, it still being less than a year old, I would go into a performance hoping to hear in its entirety besides Green Naugahyde, and I love that Les is so confident about how great that record is that he can just spring it on a crowd and have them eat it up with a spoon. There are a couple of spacier, psychedelic chill-out numbers on Green Naugahyde that provided a much needed cool-down at a couple of points during the set, but the ragers on that album turned the pit into a flailing soup of insane zoo animals.
For the encore, they did an extended jam on 'Southbound Pachyderm' that I just stood and stared at like a helpless goon for ten minutes. And then they tried to kill us with 'Wynona's Big Brown Beaver'. WHAT THE FUCK!
HIGHLIGHTS: -Mr. Krinkle -Groundhog's Day -Eternal Consumption Engine -Eyes of the Squirrel -Lee Van Cleef -Extinction Burst
Battle Wounds: -Right elbow (skinned) -Right shin (bruised) -Left hip (bruised) -Right ankle (twisted) -Front tooth (chipped)

I caught them in 03 or 04 in Eureka, CA and it was one of the better shows I've been to. They played a set, took a break, then returned and railed Sailing the Seas front to back. I will be in attendance on Sunday.

I saw them do Sailing the Seas of Cheese front to back in 2010 and then Green Naugahyde last night, and honestly I don't know which one I liked better. The Cheese show had the Residents opening, so major points for that, but Naugahyde was a real mindfuck.
I'm not just saying this for Stormy's benefit, who couldn't make the two New Year's shows I saw, but I think last night was the best Primus performance of the five that I've been to.

I mean it. Sinister hoodoo. He kinda lets his jaw hang open when he's got that pig mask on, and he swings the Whamola bow like it is an instrument of torture. That 'bang diddy bang a bang a bang diggy' shit would make a sadist squirm.

I just found out that I am going to be in Toronto the same night as The Wall! So freaking excited. I have just spent the last 30 minutes watching YouTube clips of past shows and cannot wait for this!
