Foster the People headlining at the WaMu. What the fuck. They sold out four shows in Portland this year, three at venues holding 1,500. The most recent show sold out in a couple of hours, and now they are playing a 5,000 capacity venue next summer. Blow'd da fuck up. And Geno, for being the youngest board regular, you sure aren't very up on what the youngsters are listening to these days. That's probably a good thing, but still.

Yeah, Mean Gene what do you think of the fact that The Black Keys played an all stadium tour in Canada? 10 000+ venues. I'd advise anyone standing near him to take cover so that they aren't impaled by sharp dino baby head shrapnel. The Black Keys getting popular doesn't surprise me that much. They've been around for over a decade. They've earned the success they've achieved.

Like, how did they get here? How did they get so popular so fast? I know it's because of all the radio plays, but how did they get popular enough to play on top 40 radio so quickly? Ha ha, this feels like I'm about to tell my son why every single year Santa Clause only shows up on Christmas Eve when I'm "at the grocery store" and why he happens to have the same shoes as I do. And voice?

When you have a major label who sees the potential to make some good coin from your stuff you are guided to all the places you need to be by people who have access to getting you there. Not only can they get you there, but they can get you many places at once and coordinate things so that you are seen on Letterman one night than in Gossip Girl a couple days later, while also being featured in a popular entertainment magazine that month. The more the public seems to be buying it, the harder the label and promoters will push to keep people aware of you and that "you" are something people should want to see and be a part of.
These are the Coles notes, but I'm sure you get the idea. I'm not saying it's all manufactured, it's not. The song was gaining momentum and someone saw that it had potential to appeal to a broad market, from that point it also depends on how much strategic promoting the artist themselves wants to be apart of. Your level of commitment to this will also directly effect your labels commitment to "Pump" you up.

As I stated earlier, the first rule about the radius clause is there is no talking about the radius clause. And really, do you think your hypothetical child really cares about which bands are playing in Seattle next spring?

No, but he is hypothetically concerned about the shoes part.

It certainly helps Foster the people that they're signed to an "indie" label that is essentially a front for a major label. Startime's wikipedia page is pretty hysterical too:
Conveniently ignoring the fact that startime is an imprint of Columbia.

Really I'm just super jealous. I hear it's an amazing show/tour and I bet y'all who are going are going to have the best time. Kanye's over the top showmanship plus Jay-Z's pragmatic down to earth style must just make something so special live. Goddamn I turn into the nerdiest person ever as soon as I start to talk about rap music. "His flow is super fresh!"

Uh, yep. I think that show just moved into my top 5 of all time. Just absolutely amazing. When I heard that they were planning on playin Niggas in Paris a bunch of times I thought it would get annoying. Each time they did it though, it was way more intense than the last.
Although Kanye did get a little pissy when someone threw something onto his cube. He stopped everything and started saying that unless someone came forward, all the people in the area where it was thrown from were out of there. I don't know how that was resolved, but then he went back to the show after a bit.

Oh, and I had the WORST seat when I bought my ticket. It was all the way in the back of the Tacoma Dome behind all the cameras so I wouldn't have been able to see much. When I got there though, they told me to talk to some guy who worked at ticketmaster. He handed me a ticket for a seat really close to the stage. Got really lucky there.
