Explosions was fucking awesome! Pretty much spot on with your review Davers. It is truly amazing how they just keep going and going and going; the poor drummer looked like he was about to die when they finally finished haha.
During one of their songs did the guitarist on the left drag his guitar pickups across the stage? For me, that was pretty much on the same level of awesomeness as finally getting to witness Isaac Brock screaming into his pickups at Squatch '11. What a great show and awesome venue! I will most definitely never be missing any half-decent bands at The Egyptian Theater in Boise again.

And the singer from Twin Sister may or may not have stolen my heart with her awkward hand motions.

The National are playing two shows at the Neptune Theater in Seattle Nov 30 and Dec 1. Saw my first show there on Friday and it's a beautiful and intimate venue for live music. Smaller than anything the National would play these days (which explains the two dates) so it will definitely make for a special couple of gigs.

So in my drunken stupidity I broke my ankle this weekend and I have to cancel my trip to Portland next month (I was coming for the marathon).
I have a ticket to The Cut Copy show on October 9th that I won't be able to use and I'm not gonna bother to go through the process of trying to sell it and get my $20 back....so if anyone in Portland wants it, PM me and I'll mail it to you or something.

Wow, what awful timing. I just bought mine yesterday.

damnit, after pea posted those national dates in Seattle I had my fingers crossed that they'd also announce a Minneapolis show. They just released all the dates and it does not appear like they will make their way here.

Fifty dollars to see The National? Or even closer to SIXTY? Dude. They'll get there, but I reckon they're still five years out from reaching R.E.M. status. You're not allowed to charge R.E.M. ticket prices until you reach R.E.M. status.

I think the logic is that they can charge more cause these are fairly intimate shows. A quick search shows that the neptune only holds about 800 so it's smaller than the showbox. I wouldn't be shocked if they sold out.

I spent about $40 to see Radiohead in '07.
YOU AREN'T EVEN CLOSE TO RADIOHEAD STATUS, THE NATIONAL.

The sad thing about The National is that they seem to have peaked before they even got really big. Boxer and High Violet put together aren't half as good as Alligator was. If the quality of their music were growing consistently with their popularity I might even pay $50 to see them. Their songs strictly follow one of two templates -- the one with the driving drum beat and the throw-yr-head-back-and-roar chorus, or the 4 1/2 minute crescendo accompanied by lugubrious, vaguely poetic mumblings.
Blah blah blah. They can have my fifty bucks when they start playing 'City Middle' again.

Anyone else going to the Amon Tobin + Baths show @ the Paramount in a few weeks? I'm still not sure if I'm going or not.

I'd pay $50 to see The National I think. But only because they've never played here before and the alternative is to travel 12+hrs to see them.
Canada is more than just Vancouver and Toronto, you fucks.

Canada is more than just Vancouver and Toronto, you fucks. Yeah man, this must be an American thing. $50 doesn't seem outrageous to me at all. Hell, I just paid $40 for Bassnectar tickets. $50 for the National seems like a solid deal to me!
