God, the Showare center is only like, 15 minutes from my house. Usually all that's there is lacrosse, arena football, and hockey.

It's kind of a weird venue choice if you ask me...IMO The paramount theatre would seem like more of an equivalant to the portland gig... Easy choice on which show to go to though.

$45 for A Perfect Circle in Seattle. That's a more decent price. I probably would pay the $70 for the Portland show if I had the money right now but I don't. $140 for my wife and me to both go. That's why I was bitter yesterday. I'm sure it will be an awesome show.

Armin Van Buuren just announced in Calgary and Vancouver in May.
Ha ha, I know exactly how this is going to play out for me. I have zero desire to go see him, but I know someway or another I am going to end up at this show.

Maynard is a pretentious douche. I said it. Hate me all you want for saying it but I have developed a hatred for that guy in the past couple years. I saw A Perfect Circle about ten years ago and he played with his back to the audience the entire time.

When I saw them this past summer every member of the band had a spotlight on them except for Maynard, who stood in the darkened back corner of the stage swaying back and forth with a cowboy hat on. I fucking loved that for some reason.

Went to see The Joy Formidable/Mona/Lonely Forest last night. Pretty good show overall but if you ever hear the name Mona run as fast as possible unless you really love kings of leon. The only thing good about their set was I found out the friend I was with didn't know who Kings of Leon are (I was really jealous) so I came up with the idea that Kings of Leon were the nickelback of the south.
I'd never seen the lonely forest before and I enjoy them enough so it was nice to get a chance to catch them. I was really happy that I got to see them outside of Seattle because it meant the crowd wasn't a bunch of 16 year old girls singing along. That said, if I was a 16 year old girl they would probably be life changing.
The Joy Formidable was exactly what I was hoping for. I've been listening to the big roar a lot lately and the songs sounded even bigger live. They ended with an extended version of Whirring which was the perfect way to end the show
side note: The last three shows I've been to haven't had encores. I full support this practice

I fucking hate encores. When I saw We Were Promised Jetpacks last year they said to the crowd, "We can either go off stage and make you guys clap and cheer for us or we can just skip that crap and play a couple more songs right now. Is that cool with you?" You could tell that everyone appreciated it. That's how every show should end. Encores are so lame.

Nah. It's tradition. Some bands totally milk it and that's annoying (fucking Decemberists), but that little cooldown period between the set closer and the part where they come back and hit you with the two or three songs you've been waiting all night is just part of the experience.

During Tool shows he plays in complete darkness.

How is being forced to scream your head off for 5 minutes a cooldown period? If you want to play a real encore, come back out after the house lights have come on and plug your fucking amps back in. That would be awesome as shit. Writing an encore INTO your setlist isn't even the definition of an encore though. It's just become an overdone and obligatory part of every show and I find it to be completely stale. Like I said, that Jetpacks show I saw was totally refreshing because of the way they changed it up. They just kept the energy at maximum all the way to the end and finished with an absolute bang. That's how I love to see it done.

^This. Encores seem to tickle a band's narcissism, for sure. Don't get me wrong, I love going to live shows, but sometimes I stand there clapping toward the end of the show thinking, "C'monnnnn---let's just get this going." On a second thought, though, Phoenix has a pretty bitchin' encore. If a band does it right, I've got no problem. Its when they milk it with mediocre song "surprises" that I'll get cranky.

It's my goal in life to be at a show where they do an unplanned encore. House lights come on, everything's off, but the crowd still wants more, so they come back out. That would seriously be the best thing to ever happen to me if I was a part of that.
