I just saw Thee Oh Sees for the first time, and holy fucking shit. They played in a British clothing store (no shit) for free (no shit) with free cocktails (no fucking shit). I enjoyed 3 of said cocktails, and thhe bartender was so fucking cool that he gave me an extra cup with a shot of whiskey each time I ordered a drink. I got fucked up, suffice to say. Lumpy will appreciate that. They played an old song, dedicated to "that guy" (me). The song was 'Block of Ice'. John pulled out a Korg Monotron and plugged it in in liu of his guitar for an absolutely epic solo at the end. Now he tells me that The Intelligence is playing down the street tonight, so I'm off to see that.
Good fucking times.

The Psychic Paramount completely blew me away tonight. I do not have words right now to properly describe how I feel after that show, but I can't sleep because I'm too fucking excited about this band, so I'm attempting the words anyways. I was in the very front row for only the third time in my life merely by luck, as I was getting high in the restroom 10 minutes prior to showtime as usual. People don't know about this band, but they should. To the people's credit, I talked to the bassist (whom I was standing directly in front of) after the show, and he told me that this was their first gig in Seattle (they're from NYC) in over 10 years of playing together. They certainly made up for lost time, as I had to use both hands to pry my jaw from the floor when they were through with their 50-minute set. While said bass-master was shaking my hand, he apologized to me specifically for the timeliness of the festival and for not being able to play another song, as he could see from my wicked dance moves that I was so eagerly craving. I told him that another song might have melted me completely into a puddle on the floor, and I wasn't exaggerating. Fans of high-energy guitar and drum rock need to check this band out immediately. Phenomenal, phenomenal stuff, and they are playing a rare Portland gig on Monday at some place called Mississippi Studios. Just imagine being in the front row for this:
FUCK YES

This band's unique caliber of awesomeness is directly to blame for my inability to contact/meet up with Pea at this festival. I went straight home after they played, curled up into fetal position, and started sobbing uncontrollably. I am still doing that now, actually. This band is so goddamn good.

AND YOU GET TO SEE THE INTELLIGENCE TONIGHT TOO?! Funny story here. So ya know, I got fucked up, suffice to say at that OCS show, and was super-duper pumped when John announced the Intelligence show happening afterwards within walking distance, come to find out that my drunk ass was thinking of the Advantage, not the Intelligence. I had never heard the belt sander before, and I thought the bouncer was lying to me about who was playing 'cause I was all like "where's the Mega Man riffs, yo?"

Yo badchoices, you'll have to meet up with us for a Sigur Ros high five! Also, have you ever been to the Triple Door before? That's one venue I've never gotten a chance to go to, but have always wanted to.

JOURNEY!!!!!!! NOVEMBER 25th!!!! You know Journey is currently a cover band? I didn't know this, but I was looking at a picture of them, and was unable to identify the original vocalist. I am also not interested enough in the band to research it. I have been wondering how these guys are playing large venues like the Gorge.

They've been touring for the past 4 years or so with this fucking kid from Thailand that posted a youtube video of himself singing their music at a karaoke bar. They shouldn't even be playing casinos at this point.

That's one venue I've never gotten a chance to go to, but have always wanted to. Right on! I have been to the Triple Door one time. It is sort of a weird place. You are seated in a restaurant basically where all of the tables/seats face the stage. Not sure if that is how it is for all of the shows or not. I was there with my brother so he could go see some ukulele performer for his world music class. I hope it is better for Omar!

Bands aren't allowed to change singers?

Uhhhh, not when you're Journey and your singer had one of the most powerful and distinctive voices in the history of rock music.

Uhhhh, not when you're Journey and your singer had one of the most powerful and distinctive voices in the history of rock music. So once again, what are they supposed to do? Quit? Steve Perry doesn't want to do it anymore. Journey was a band. All the guys wrote those songs, not just Steve Perry. They have every right to continue on as Journey without him, and it looks like they are doing pretty damn well.

Obviously there will be differing opinions on this, but yeah -- I think they should quit. Start another band. Or at least don't go around calling yourself Journey when the main draw of a Journey show isn't to be had. Call it the Journey Experience or some shit.
When Mark Sandman died, Morphine toured briefly as Orchestra Morphine. Roger Waters touring a Pink Floyd album has always billed himself as Roger Waters and not Pink Floyd, which David Gilmour never had the decency to do. Or how about James Mercer trying to pass a bunch of disinterested librarians off as The Shins? I certainly wasn't fooled.
