That Flaming Lips show made that crazy day sooooo worth it!
Guess who didn't get the memo they were allowing re-entry that day? I always err on the side of under dressing than hauling around extra clothes, so there I was, wearing shorts, sandals, a tee shirt, and a dress-type shirt (not warm, not water proof) when the sky opened. If you recall, it was a pretty nice day prior to the hail. Watching people sliding down the hill by the food court, using tipped over benches or jackets as sleds, made me think about how memorable of an event I was experiencing, and how people will be talking about this moment for decades.
At one point a couple hours later, I had to strip down naked in a honeybucket, and wring out my wet clothes, including boxers. Yes, I was that soaked.
I still can't believe I made it through the second half of Ben Harper's set, which bored me to tears. The Flaming Lips show, my first, will always be one my most memorable live music experiences, partly because of the events leading up to it.
I think of the hail storm every time I hear the Constantines mentioned (they were playing the third stage when the hail hit). Seriously, the Sasquatch hail storm is one of the most talked about U.S. festival events of the last 20 years.
And yes, many of you have heard this story before. It's like my Night Before Xmas. I tell it every year.
