I'm not the biggest fan of the Hawthorne but it's not THAT bad. Sure it's annoying that they split it in half if you want to drink but I'm usually poor so this is good motivation not to drink and instead get a good spot. Besides, the view from the 21+ area is much better than the Crystal which has the worst beer garden.
I kind of just wish every venue was the doug fir

When I saw Islands at the Hawthorne Theater, the sound was so bad he stormed off stage and the band vamped the opening of 'Whalebone' for like ten minutes before he got his shit together. I can't say I blame him, the sound at the Hawthorne is only marginally better than listening through a tin can with a string attached to it. But come on. The sound is just one shitty thing about that crap venue. 1. They only have two toilets in one bathroom, which looks like a one person bathroom. If people in line don't chant, "two at a time," whenever it opens the wait is typically 5-10 minutes. The worst part is there used to be a public restroom to the right of the stage, which is no longer public. 2. They cut the venue in half for 21+ and under 21, but instead of doing it lengthwise, the under 21 is the front half, the over 21 is the back half. With the typical crowd being more than half over 21, this leaves a giant mess of a crowd in the back of the venue, and makes getting to the end of the line at the far corner bar nearly impossible. 3. It gets really hot in there with a packed house. 4. It is one of the least convenient venues to get to (public) transportation wise, unless you live next door. I do like how they check for knives and guns upon entry though. It makes me feel safe when I'm seeing the Liars. Is somebody going to one of Mister Heavenly's west coast shows? I have no recordings to go off of, so if someone goes and comes back with a report of the show, I'll give you a pass that lets you say whatever idiotic things you want without HG or I8 giving you shit for a full day (This may or may not be true) I might go if I can find a ticket way below face. The show isn't sold out, and there are a bunch of people selling on craigslist. If I can get a ticket for under $20 tomorrow night, I'll go just for the opener. Yeah, that Caribou/Toro Y Moi show I went to before Sasquatch this year, man, it was sad, poor Toro Y Moi kids were so bummed out by how bad it sounded. It got a little better though for Caribou, since they brought their own sound guy. I found it so funny too that you had to be 21 to get into that bar area. And how much ARE the tickets to that show. I'm rather surprised they're OVER $20.

$29.50 + a buck buying it at the venue. If you order them online, it will be around $38 or so. With so many people trying to unload, and so few tickets purchased, I'm surprised people are not going low yet. To each their own, some would rather lose $35 out of principal than sell the ticket for half face.

OOOOH yeah, my bad, forgot about the fact that they're opening for passion pit and not headlining.
Now I understand why some of you are somewhat reluctant to go.

Would love to see 2 reunions. Sleep and soundgarden... could go r.i.p. after that.

The problem with the Roseland is that every single person that works there is a fucking asshole. It's got great sound, and the layout is much better than the Crystal.
My personal preference is the Wonder Ballroom, and definitely the Doug Fir for smaller bands. Most of the best shows I've seen in Portland have been at the Doug Fir.

Uhg I thought hockey might not be touring for a while because they lost half their members but it looks like they're making a new album right now which means a summer tour isn't that unlikely. I hope they do open the mainstage if they play so I can stay at the campground and drink instead

Never had a problem with anyone being an asshole there. Actually most of the people working there have been pretty nice to me. And yeah the Wonder Ballroom is probably my favorite as well. Although I've only seen like 3 shows there, I can't find anything to complain about.

Even the nice old lady who checks IDs to get upstairs? The Roseland is my favorite (outside of the Doug Fir of course). I've never had issues with asshole staff there. I've routinely had issues with asshole staff at the Wonder Ballroom. I've had less than ten negative experiences with staff at concerts, and all but one have been at the Wonder Ballroom.

I went to the Roseland to see The Dead Weather and some dude pushed a couple people trying to start a fight and the guards beat the shit out of him while Allison Mosshart stooped over them. It was rather bad ass after such a horrible opener.

Mister Heavenly was awesome by the way. Michael Cera was pretty good on bass too. I ended up meeting him after the show which was awesome.
Also Pepper Rabbit was also amazing.
Passion Pit was pretty good too.
