SAT - EDWARD SHARPE W. MAG ZEROES VS. OK GO SUN - ALL GOOD MON - CAMERA OBSCURA (Love Love Love) VS. BAND OF HORSES (MEH but should go) <-- Two bands I'll prolly never see again MGMT VS NEW PORNOS (Neko Case is touring with them again! J'adore ) I haven't heard Hold Steady - this seems to be quite the conflict with the National for most people. (Do I dare check them out before the fest and create another conflict?) The Hold Steady is a great band. They have a good live show. I absolutely recommend that you listen to The Hold Steady, but wait until after the festival. The National is one of the ten best bands currently recording and touring. I feel confident saying that. Do not miss them. This is one of the BIGGEST conflicts. I've seen The Hold Steady twice and The National once and I figured I would watch 45 minutes of The National and then book it up to The Hold Steady...but it's so fucking hard to make a decision now, since the new National is amazing. Interstateeight is right though in advising not to listen to The Hold Steady until after the festival...otherwise you will be in the same conflict boat as some of us are. BUT DEFINATLY LISTEN TO THEM AT SOME POINT.

Simian Mobile Disco vs. Massive Attack: MA for sure, but I will be kinda sad not to see SMD. If anything they should be doing the late set instead of Booka Shade. Totally agree with this!

Overlooked the Dr. Dog vs. Passion Pit conflict.

national vs. why? vs. hold steady - NOT COOL AT ALL. but the national wins.
missing dam-funk and watching vampire weekend - who i really don't care for - just to be up front for MMJ will also not be cool.
pavement vs. dirty projectors, well that one just pisses me off. going with pavement.
and other than these crushing blows, i'm good.

Listen to the Hold Steady, but start with their new album, and you'll understand why it's not the same as The National first of all, then listen to their (The Hold Steady's) older stuff, then you'll understand why you should see The National instead... Hold Steady are a great band and they put on great shows... but more of a bar band in my opinion not as much as a festival band; whereas The National are just an amazing band... As Blacksmile puts it, in the top ten for all bands currently recording and touring.

And you base that on them not playing it at Coachella, right? They played it at Bamboozle, though. It's a coin flip.

Both are great live but as stated before, The Hold Steady rip it up as a bar band whereas The National might be more suitable for the festival. The National's music fits the atmoshpere of The Gorge so well and will be an epic part of the weekend. They blew me away when they played the Yeti stage in 2008.

Bamboozle caters exclusively to the under-17 fanbase. If they didn't play Kids, they would have been booed off the stage by cracking, prepubescent voices. Hello Interstate-Eight! While I appreciate your joke about my home state's most prominent music festival and agree with the sentiment that is behind it, you have made several critical errors here that I feel I must address. More specifically, your statement assumes that: 1. MGMT played Kids because they were catering to the crowd. First off, fuck the Bamboozle crowd, they suck cocks gay scene faaaaaaagggootttttsssssss (friends of mine, though). With that said, have you heard Congratulations? I have not, mostly, but from what I understand it's not at all aimed at the Oracular Spectacular crowd at all. MGMT caters to no one, they are their own synthy beast. A proper argument for their playing Kids would be that they were subheadlining Weezer, who plays a cover of Kids in their set, and wanted to lay down the gauntlet or something (MGMT is not good at logic). 2. The crowd is able to recognize that MGMT is not playing Kids whilst they are still on the stage. I don't know if you have ever attended a rock concert before. I myself have attended several. As a rule, the bands performing do not announce at any time the songs that they intend to play or not play. It is only after they leave the stage for the, like, third time that one can finally consider what was and was not heard on that particular evening. In your scenario, MGMT has somehow communicated to the crowd that it is not playing Kids and then attempts to continue their set, which is met by booing. This wouldn't happen. That's really it.

Neon Indian vs. New Pornographers... hmmm... I saw New Pornographers in 2008 at Sasquatch, so maybe try Neon Indian? Any suggestions?

The only good MGMT song is the cover they did once of til Tuesday's "Voices Carry", which they definitely won't play. Watching the crowd react to them not playing Kids will prob be best part of their set. Why can't they be on the Big Foot stage before Ween? ?

Man, I am lost on this National as a festival band craze - said this before, I love the band and their albums. But seen 'em four times now and was never blown away in terms of performance although cuz I love the albums I still enjoyed seeing it live. So far the smaller venues have suited them WAY more, Matt just doesn't have a big voice, and as a band they concentrate more on suitable dynamics than big venue sound. Here's some video of both National and Hold Steady, take a look
It's been since 2007 that I've seen them in a festival setting, so maybe things changed?

But I suppose MGMT has superceded them in popularity by now.
